The "Rape Culture" Thread: Stories of jocks raping people and getting away with it

Problem with the Steubenville case is that it took Deadspin to write a friggin’ essay for enough pressure to be put on authorities to take it seriously. If it weren’t for that, those guys would still be bragging about it.

This type of stuff isn’t happening more and more - it’s always happened. The only difference now (as someone said above), is these kids snitch on themselves. They can’t help but brag b/c they believe that even if people know, no one is going to do anything about it b/c they’re the star athletes of some hole-in-wall town.

The absolutely worst part is that these adults and city officials allow them to get away with it.

I really hope that when these people get what’s coming to them, that the victims know about it the second it happens. And smile.

good luck Mr. Barnett, you’re not alone…

the problem with steubenville is that those boys ended up going to jail.

Rape culture is whatever that situation was at Penn State when Sandusky had free reign on the collective assholes of young male students every where. The same shit happens with female teachers every where in the states but that shit isn’t an issue in the eyes of the media.

Fortunately for our Evah D, his job requires an inordinate amount of sitting.

Office chairs savin’ asses.

Fixed that up for ya angel

Rape culture definitely exists outside of prisons.

Victim blaming - precisely what occurred in the case Missing Person posted

Just because your uncle took advantage of you, does not a “rape culture” make.

Maybe he just got out.

I hear prison is a scary place.

And that the closet isn’t much better.

If not, then maybe his dick down your throat WAS a culture of sorts.

wow…you took that bait?

He isn’t a master baiter.

He’s more the gimp.

Not that there is anything [ethically or legally] wrong with that.

Only read the first and last posts. Came back in here to see a few people taking a shit on me. Plus I got flagged. Nice.

boy you got a purrty mouth

In the eyes of the media? Come now. You’ve seen it yourself–we have plenty of people here who read those stories, and their reaction is “Daaaaaamn, where were those teachers when I was in school?”

Rape culture, meng.

In the case of statutory rape, it still falls under “rape culture”? IMO, the term gets thrown around too liberally/loosely much like “rape apologist”.

well the word is created by those same people so they would be allowed to throw it around and basically put anything male centric under it.

oh you think im hot…rape culture

oh you like my costume…rape culture

my problem with rape culture is the fact women dont see the hypocrisy in comments like “he looks like a rapist”

word? we down for that…or the fact these so called rape culture feminist never help out anyone who isnt white. rape culture is purely for the most part stayed in the white lane. Occasionally ypu get a oh rappers are sexist but generally they dont do shit for minorities. They literally tried to dent rock ross…then disappeared. Nothing major before then and nothing major after. rap wasnt changed in any way.

Lots of generalizations in there, buddy. “Women do this, women do that” and “feminists do this, feminists do that” is basically the same as saying “men do this, men do that” and “rapists do this, rapists do that”.

And yes, statutory rape is obviously a part of rape culture, being nonconsensual by definition yet being regularly excused by the authorities and made a target for victim shaming. One of the nobler purposes of the term is to raise people’s consciousness of the fact that not every rape plays out like the first act of a Lifetime revenge movie.

Those are not the best examples of rape culture. The missing component would be:

Her costume was hot so he grabbed her ass/titties … but it’s okay because her costume was hot/she wanted it. Rape culture.

The problem is when girls say stuff like “he looks like a rapist,” they make themselves seem capable of ascertaining whether a man is a rapist or not, but she’s most likely just evaluating him based off of how desirable he is. (I’m embracing myself for some verbal abuse).

And rappers still get tons of shit; since you brought him up, remember when Rick Ross lost his Sketchers deal for that molly joke? Also hardcore feminists still jump all over Tyler, the Creator for his lyrics. I would argue that rappers get more heat for being rappers. Even more if they’re black.

No mention of male victims of rape? Unwanted women taking advantage of men and getting away with it? Or is that some acceptable standard in society backed by pussy addict males and venomous women?

This is another facet of rape culture imo…

When a man (or boy) is raped, typical reactions range from “was she hot?” to “I wish that happened to me.” The common variable that I am highlighting is the objectification of women: people exhibiting these responses seldom consider the actual case or scenario which the non consensual sex occurred (16 year olds can’t legally consent either). The girl is just a piece of ass.

Not sure if this fits into rape culture; correct me if I’m wrong.

lets talk about grape culture now
