The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants & Opinions: Volume 9 - Yes, we know "Hip Hop"

Va is . Do y’all think their is a glass ceiling as far as what a black man is capable of

Such a good reply. Making a couple singles here and there about relationships and women isn’t a problem, but dedicating 99% of your albums to some croonin’ shit is. Moderation is key.

Capable in terms of what? America? The world? Politics? Business?

  1. Is there a glass ceiling, yes, but as such - it is breakable. I say that to mean, we can usually get to the same places, but we often have to work a bit harder o play the system a bit more to get there.
  2. Va is southern. Technically speaking so is MD. In terms of attitude though - the south sorta splits AT VA. IMO the DMV area is ‘EC’, but once you head down to Richmond, thats when you really switch it to the south, but to say southern - it isn’t ‘binary’…0-1. Its a ‘gradient’ if you will, so while I’d consider Richmond ‘South’, by no means does it fall in line with like Tennesee or Lousianna or Kentucky. IMO though Florida is akin to VA…its such a mixing bowl of people that atitudely speaking it feels more like the DMV to me than the south.
  3. Education bubble popping is the most ignant shit ever. Not pointing fingers at you. In general. To (1) limit it to the financial aspect of the situation is a FLAW. Education brings more to the table than just direct dollars and cents. Even financially - having an education right now SHIELDS you more than those without one in this economy. Education also instills skills that translate to long term financial growth (not saying you cna’t develop those, but you develop them almost by default in going to school). And (2) I have folks with associates and HS degrees talk to me all the time about wishing they had been able to get or planning on getting a BS because of what it would do, they are stuck where they are because they don’t have a BS - alot of certifications require an education, and those that don’t often put you had a huge ‘experience delta’ to compensate.

Is school overpriced right now? Fuck yeah. Its downright ridiculous, there are simply too many schools, meaning that schools spend more money to compete with other schools, because college is what? A business. But the idea of being better off with a HS Diploma is a JOKE. Don’t get me wrong, you can make something of yourself with a GED, but that question about a glass ceiling and being black…yeah its analogous to that…only that glass ceiling is concrete and you have to core drill to get thru that shit. And Core Drilling ‘up’ is not fun at ALL.

Educated Edit - A BS is more valuable than a BA in most’ but not all applications. I don’t want to hear about someone with a degree in poetry complaining about the cost of school. If your planned career path ‘isn’t about money’ - which is fine - but if it isn’t - you shouldn’t be a factor in the debate of the ‘education bubble’

yeah, the real problem is all these dummies going to school and majoring in stupid shit like psychology, sociology, french lit, etc… if you major in psych and your plan isn’t to go to med school and become a psychologist then you’re fucking up.

not to be classist, but that’s rich people shit. if you’re family isn’t balling out of control then you need to be studying some useful shit like engineering, pharmacy, a hard science, business or something. the only exception would be if you really love something…and few people really love anything enough to be broke over it.

Shit man, I’d hardly even call it ‘classist’ heh - its just TRUTH what you said, if you go to school, ust ot go ot school, with no clear cut plan at least at ‘some point’ towards a career that wil lenable you to support a family realistically, you can’t be upset that you aren’t getting anywhere in the current job market. The DMV is BOOMING for engineers, companies can’t hire enough of them (typically, my company went overboard a couple years ago so they trimmed the fat). But if you’re trying to find a job as a sports columnist…start a blog and and scrub dishes a Phillips. If you get a degree in a foriegn language - awesome, now get a masters in business so that it can actually become USEFUL, your education is incomplete still.

But yeah you hit it on the head

the funny thing is that pretty much every report that the labor department or w/e company puts out states that the country has a HUGE demand for engineers/scientists/etc… but people keep going into fields that lead to nowhere. all of my friends that went into engineering have good ass jobs and a lot of them are getting paid to go back to grad school…realistically, most of my friends studied random bullshit have halfway decent jobs too…those that dropped out are either on unemployment or working some dead end shit that they hate…so yeah, don’t believe the “a college degree doesn’t mean anything” hype, most of the people that say that shit have a degree anyway.

Only if you let it hover over you. A black man has held every position in America job wise (with the Presidency being the last); so whats stopping you?

The problem with most students when picking majors, is that most simply don’t educate themselves on what the pros and cons that entail. I usually stress that a lot to young students who major in art. There are a lot of factors that come into play, especially where you actually go to school, if you decide to major in something that’s not “concrete.”

Say what you will…for better or worse…I still think Barack only got in because of Bush…not because of his own laurels…he won because his slogan (Change!) meant more to the American people than ‘actual leadership ability’. Now by no means am I downgrading his ability, but him being president is BECAUSE he’s black and BECAUSE he’s democratic. It was sort of the opposite scenerio I would decry in terms of ‘the glass ceiling’…it was a spring board. He did a great job with that slogan though…very smart move.

Pretty much everyone going to higher education should ask themselves “What am I doing after I graduate”. If that answer isn’t along the lines of Cam’rons “We gettin money nigga!”, then you need to rethink what you are doing. It’s really that simple. I understand some folks don’t know what they want to do their freshman year…thats fine, but by the middle of your sophomore year, you need direction, period. I’m also not saying everyone needs to chase major bank - but if you don’t see a job at the end of the rainbow…why follow it?

Hell the ‘arts’ are subjective anyways…

Disagree, he got the job due to the lack of competition. McCain didn’t come with anything and was downgraded by his VP choice. Honestly, it was a weak competition from the start and Barack had more “swagger” than dusty McCain. Barack never slipped up, thought Faux news tried to get him on something every 15 minutes. Where you had Palin screwing up just about everything and ended up being the butt of MANY jokes/shows (which the younger gen watched)

I won’t argue that as I agree, but the lack of competition is IMO also tied to the previous regime IMO. I for a while really thought he wouldn’t be able to re-up, but the republicans are such a hot mess right now…unless something major happens - he’s got it in the bag.

Sooooo, being a registered dietitian from what I can see the average pay is:
The median registered dietitian salary is between $43,000 and $62,000 a year. The upper tier of registered dietitians earned $75,000 and up while the lower tier earned around $33,000.
The average hourly rage for a registered dietitian is $25.59. Which works out to $53,227 a year, assuming a 40 hour work week for all 52 weeks of the year.
In today’s world and the future would this sustain me, I want a lot of kids, so I’m thinking about that, I know I want to do this but at the same time I don’t want to struggle, I’ve lived like that for far too long. I know I want to work in the medical field.

If you like that old skool feel to your beats, or you like beats alone. check these out.

Oh, and a Big L cover is on the MVP remix

Thats good money, just make sure you budget accordingly. Having money and been financially sound is the great thing for your life (stress wise), Also, remember that taxes are going to be taken out of that so roughly that $1023.60 you would get a week would be $801.09 (factoring in taxes).

Week: $801.09
Month: $3204.36 (after taxes)
-Rent/Mortgage
-Bills (Water, Cable, I-Net,Power,Gas)
-Car Note
-Loans/School bills
-Credit Cards (if you have any)
Should come up with how much you “really” make a month…

then

Split it in half and put the rest in savings/401k/roth/stocks

Savings should be half of your “income” until you hit a mark of 6 months worth of your expenses. (which means, you can lose your job and still live off it savings for 6 months without changing anything). After you hit that mark, do a quarter instead of half until the end of time.

I love this thread, with my dad and you all I will become a very productive and responsible man.

Lack of competition… nah not really. He edged out major states by the hairs of his chinny chin chin. Due to the fuck ups from Palin, the ‘black community’ actually voting, latino community switching over (they lean republican)… he won. Shortly there after you saw what happened. I didn’t hear a peep from the black community after everything barack couldnt sell… latinos biting their lip cause their switching now caused a ‘border/immigration issue’ and palin is popular as ever…an the most hilarious thing since everyone felt empowered to VOTE but didnt understand that meant voting some more— democrats lost the house. thus whatever mr. obama puts up will be knocked the fuck down or fought tooth an nail…

I dont blame bush for shyt since I know whom he had around him (his cabinet was nothing but people whom deal with international/war affairs)…im sorry i actually follow this shyt and i vote independent and I didnt vote for barack…

Just don’t forget about us when your on top of the hill…cause you know we will bomb your ass out SRK style if you do…LOL
