The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants, Opinions Vol 8 - We still don't know bout Wu-Tang

I love Blu, dude is talented, but the mixing on NoYork (his new album) was so ass I could barely understand him half the time. Then all the beats were stolen from Brainfeeder record label.

In other news, where the hell did Jay Elect go?

Whole up I got to hop in this…

Canibus’s issue was not beat selection, it was an inability to make songs - period. He had some DOPE beats between his first and second album along with B-sides, but a dope beat can be turned to hot garbage if the song itself doesn’t do anything. No he didn’t rock Just blaze shit, but looking at it all he did have some heat rocks production wise. I concur about Pap & Cassidy.

  • :bluu:

Yes Papoose was signed. He signed a 2 million dolalr deal, but it took so long that him and Kay slay massaged their way out of it. They got to keep the majority of te money as well somehow - so I figure paps running low - hence the all of a sudden appearance trying to make himself relevent.

  • :bluu:

False. Chino XL would like ot have a word with you. We can argue till we are blue in the face about lyricist, but Cass can’t light a match to Chino “The only bitch you see in my eyes is your refleciton” XL.

  • :bluu:

Meh they both fall into the irrelevant ass ninjas ‘heading’ as well - while Papoose hasn’t dropped an album, Cassidy has dropped three/four albums that outside of typically 3 tracks - is non-existent. I can’t call how much jail messed him up or not, but homey just can’t put it together…his album ARE ‘Bis Tier’ - take it as you will.

  • :bluu:

Niggas just can’t keep a grip on they doe!!!Pap probably hit up Lids and walked in there on some Jay-Z ish “I want this whole wall of NY fitteds”,then hit up one of those clothes spots like Born And Raised and said “I want all the shirts that have 9’s on them”(he thought those was gonna be in for a minute)

i forgot the name of the song but I remember Pap was in the video getting a haircut with his hat on

if you “can rap”, but your songs are wack then you’re a wack rapper. that’s really all there is to it.

i got a good solid chuckle out of that.

:rofl::rofl:

Cassidy has bars for days, but he couldn’t keep his shit together and stay out of jail. That messed his career up, badly. Then when he got out, it’s all about how, “he beat that case” on every track.

Canibus has Nas like issues when it comes to beats, but somehow manages to be worse. His beat selection is terrible and his production is bad too. All of that put together leads to some boring ass albums.

Exactly.

I won’t say that - but I get what you’re saying.

To me you can be a dope as fux rapper…but a piss poor musician. then you can be an awesome musician, but a horrible rapper. The two (rapper/musician) can overlap but don’t necessarily have to. Lil Jon was a wack ass ‘rapper’ when he did it, but he knew how to put together a track. On the flip you can be a awesome rapper with a shitty beat selection that leads to not being able to make songs (I’ll point to NAs, though he does have songs - not an extreme example).

If I call Bi’s a wack rapper - its for using big words that don’t mean shit. This is magnified to me personally because 90% of the time, the language they use is words my ‘retired-geek’ personality understands. I’m sick of rappers using computer terms without knowing what they are talking about. “My brain consist of twin pentium chips - thats double the speed of a 586.”…dude a Pentium WAS A 586…and double the chips does not double the speed or the performance. I know its nit picking, but the shit irks me. Rza however…

thats a different aniumal. Rza falls into the E-40 category…ninjas who just say shit to rhyme. 40 Water is more creative er-a-tuh-ah - Rza covers it up with big words that have lots of sylabuls.

  • :bluu:

to me RZA has the swag to pull off saying all that over the top ish,i remember when I 1st heard Wu Gambinos I was like idk what dude is talking about on most of it but i couldn’t stop head nodding with the ugly face.I was like RZA MY NIGGA!I gotta DL Bobby Digital…

yeah i fuck with bobby digital bcuz those beats knock and he’s not beating me over the head with words fucking up the vibe so i can digest what he’s saying and lol at it. but when i think lyrical rapper, i think of a guy like aesop rock…like a dude where i have to read what he said to understand it a lot of times AND he sounds dope.

 I wonder how Slick Rick felt when he saw his segment in The Show movie…No wonder Rick dosen’t want to drop,he’s on his “forget Russel”:

Oh don’t get it twisted, I went thru a “Rza is the Kang” phase myself - but when Common droppe the lines “Rhyming big words but aint saying shit” I IMMEDIATLY see

And damn, no wonder Wu-Tang pushed headbands back in the day…Rza was Lebron before Lebron…

It’s like one of those two in one hair cuts where the front is bald, but the back somehow got a tapered fade goin on.

  • :bluu:

someone front me which album from Fiend is most worth the purchase. I’ve got his newer mixtapes and “Can I Burn II”, looking for some recommendations.

  • :bluu:

ummm… there is one in every family (no limit timeline)

an his album wit dj paul an juicy j Da headbussaz…

oh yeah I got the headbussaz joint, but I had it organized under 3-6.

Main I remember when they were acting like they were going to take over the industry, now 2-6 don’t even seem like THEY work together anymore - its all solo projects.

  • :bluu:

How did that hot rag work for them bumps my nigs?

I miss No Limit:sad:

EDIT: Yall expected a group of thug ass, Memphis Tenakey ass niggas to be friendly and shit… notsureifserious.jpg

Just like expecting group of rough ass niggas from Cleveland to stay together… yeah really tho…

Absolutely not. Like Will said, you can be a great musician and a terrible rapper (50 Cent) or a great rapper and a terrible musician (Canibus). The two can overlap (Kanye West) and can diverge (Lil B), but you can’t act like one is the other. Rapper !== Musician. Rapper === Rapper.

I’m a decent rapper myself, but I couldn’t write a dope hook to save my life. I can switch my style up, rhyme on any beat, Busta Rhymes fast or Lil B slow. I can drawl and get on some YMCMB shit, or I can shittalk on some Kanye/Diddy shit. But I can’t make a dope song that will make me famous. Taking all this versatility into account, I wouldn’t say I’m a wack rapper. Just a terrible musician. I got a good ear for beats, though. /shrug

i tried it today i didn’t put it in the microwave tho, ghostface voice that shit did work tho

ROFL @ ‘diverge’ with Lil B

Oh and to prove I’m not trynna throw darts at Rza, my favorite rhyme of all timre (or at least top five) is off the Bobby Digital album (of course the track featuring Ras Kass)

How do you follow that line up yo? If someone spit that in a cypher I’d be so done I’d need five minutes to recover before I could go again.

  • :bluu:

That was one of my favorite lines on that whole tape, too.

yeah…i disagree. bad rappers don’t consistently make good (hip-hop) music and vice versa. lol @ 50 being a terrible rapper when his VERSES are doper than canibus’.

Wayne said sing to a lady, no where did that dude degrade women in the video, which surprised me, but I’m glad he didn’t.
