The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants, Opinions Vol 8 - We still don't know bout Wu-Tang

True story, your resume should be tailored for every unique position you are applying for. Because of that you try and choose words and phrases that lend themselves to that exact position. You can also summarize items like that in your cover letter. Typically though its best IMO to save things like ‘creative’ for descriptions of previous work…not just standalone - thats like saying “I have experience” without listing any. What type of jobs are you looking at?

Let me rephrase, the cars are beast, the problem is 9.5 out of 10 people who drive BMWs are assholes on the road. Its only BMW, MB drivers are perfectly fine. Porsche fine. Elipse fine. I can’t think of any other brand where the drivers have such a high ‘asshole’ or the ‘road belongs to me’ ratio. So its less the car and more the aura given off by those with it. I’ve pissed people off saying it, but I’m not gonna lie and hold that back, once every 3 blue moons I come across a normal driver in a BMW.

In terms of generic ‘continent’ brands - Europeans are pricey on maintenance - MB/BMW/Nissan/etc. Usually solid and good cards, but not cheap at all if something goes wrong or just doing soethign as simple as an oil change and filter replacement (its the filters). American cars have gotten much much much better over the past decade and change, I personally just don’t like the interior stylings and cargo sizing seems funny…a stand out for me because I’m so tall. For instance the Charger windshield is unpossible for me to see thru because of the angle…but thats not a true reflection of the car, just issues for myself. I’m sorta pro-Japanese - but thats because all my positive experiences have been with them. I’ve driven an 88 Accord, 98 Caravan, 98 Camry, 05 Murano, and now I’m driving a 10 TL…and the only car thats been an irritant was the Murano…so I’ve just had good experience with them. Maintenance cost is middle of the road, not cheap, but not expensive due to the sheer volume of the cars floating around. But thats all ‘generic’ thinking which isn’t smart anymore. It used to work, but all the manufacturers have stepped up to make good cars, there are fewer and fewer duds in the new millenium.

You’d be better of setting a price range, figuring out what you need out of the car/want out of it, filtering for that - and then trying those cars out. I wanted a sedan again, I wanted milage to be equal or better than my murano (for a crossover it did well - between 21-24mpg thru the life of the car), my price range was capped around 36k-39k depending on financing (got 0.9% though OH!), andd there were some techy fetures that I wanted/needed. It came down to a new Acura TL, Buick Lacrosse, and then the long shot was the Cadillac SRT I think it was. TL had better mileage than the Lacrosse, the Lacrosse had slightly better tech package. Cadillac was comparable to Buick, ended up choosing the styling/cost/gas of the TL.

I won’t say dumb so much as uninformed. I’ve strayed away from the SJ stuff cause I come off as an asshole when people mourn…not intentionally (feel guilty about MJ still), but regardless - SJ was a figure head for foreward thinking. He didn’t INVENT anything…he managed it, and established the baseline artistic direction (simple). Nothing more nothing less. He was a smart business man…he made Apple relevent again. But he’s also visable to people, he was well known enough that my wife actually knew that he stepped down (didn’t know his name, she’s …really…out of the loop…like REALLY)…and what he’s known for has completely redirected how things are done these days. So there is alot of ‘he’s important’ floating around.

I understand what you are saying my man. I guess for me I am doing it for performance more so than that of if there assholes who drive the car (do I seem like an asshole?). I know that maintenace is expensive, but honestly a lot of the newer cars now are just plain ugly, I have always loved the look of Bimmers and Audi’s and since Mercedes Benz released the C class coupe I am really feeling them now too. For me a lot of the newer Japanese automakers have done away with stick shifts, and I have driven stick my whole life (can’t stand automatics) so for me I need something with a sporty feel, and real talk it is between Audi and BMW. I don’t doubt that there are a lot of assholes who own Bimmers but I have also noticed than a lot of folks who own Nissan Altima’s and Maximas are just as bad when it comes to asshole tendencies. I am still pro Japanese but if I were to buy a Japanese car now, then it would most likely be a 370z, s2000, or an sti. But for the money it costs for those vehichles I can go ahead and step up into the sport luxury market.

Oh and my uncle is an engineer for Yokohama tires and has owned every generation BMW 3 series since the E30, so I asked him about maintenance, and he said it is high, but not as high as people make it out to be. So for me those vehicles are really the only ones that have really appealed to me (besides from the Countryman S).

Yo real shit I can give you my friends moms email; shes been in Human Resources for over 20 years and she helps all my friends with that shit.

Get creative and design a resume in Photoshop (that’s what I did) and give it a new look. Depending on your age and education don’t list too much from HS if you can help it.

I actually wanted to talk about this. Looks like a good debate/discussion topic that is actually ON TOPIC (no offense to anybody). I have my own opinion formed, but I wanted to get a consensus. I know KONY means nothing like it did in the 90s, but it got Red Cafe on the low salty (IMHO, watch the whole video where he responds), which it SHOULD, as MCs are supposed to be competitive and have a certain ego about them. Papoose is pretty much challenging anyone to dispute it, and it telling people to stop spouting off number and sales figures to determine an MCs worth. I’m sure the tight pants, smedium shirt, jerk dancing young cats don’t care, but I’d love to hear about it, especially from the “students of the game” here that I know have knowledge. So:

1 Do you agree with papoose as possible KONY? If not, who and why?
2. Do you agree with his criteria?
3. Positive or negative for the genre/culture?
4. Will it make a lick of difference?

If anyone cares to talk about it, I will put my thoughts up in a few.

P.S. Thank you white shadow for that Coral video. Those titties cheer me up every time…

This nigga REALLY brought up Supreme Mathematics and the 85%rs???

LOl. This convo went from local STDs to hitting this girl in the face with a chair? Or garbage can?

i agree with pap’s criteria, i don’t think he’s got the title though. in my mind, 50 got that title bcuz he’s the biggest rap nigga in ny by any criteria.

that said, if you’re talking about who’s just always hot in the streets…i’d say a nigga like jim jones is. i don’t think he’s crazy nice on the mic or nothing, but for whatever reason that nigga stays in rotation and not even just the radio, niggas just seem to truly feel whatever he puts out.

El Paso has a ghetto booty hooters called Hieneys. Never been though.

Rick Ross is hella whack. “Got so many horses that bitches call me Polo” My face when I heard that = :coffee:

What niggas bump UPTWN now is Frenchie, ASAP Rocky, Cam and Max B (eternally).

Pap bringing 5% knowledge into it was irrelevant. But my view is this

No, he’s not KONY, but I don’t blame him for trying to bring relevancy to himself and “the crown”. If I had to pick a KONY, it would be Nas. Jay doesn’t really “do” Hip-Hop anymore, and IMO is washed up (at least for someone who claims to be GOAT and God MC). 50 isn’t as good, and Nas still has the best overall skills, and reps the culture a billion times harder than most mainstream cats. If nobody claims the crown, fuck it, but I respect the hell out of him for daring someone to prove him wrong and call out the city.

As for Pap’s reasoning and criteria, I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Sales, swag (vomit), and corny gimmicks should not even come into the convo when comparing MCs. Also, at least on the mixtape/underground level, I hope this motivates some cats to step their rap game up. Not everybody has to be a lyrical wizard, but NYC definitely needs to reclaim it’s identity and we need people with skills to balance out the overwhelming wackness out here in the world. He discussed Red Cafe’s comments without getting ignorant or attacking, but I hope they ask all the NYC cats this on interviews, to pull up some skirts and kick them in the ass a bit. Although, most will duck/swerve/Matrix out of the question like he did and suck off Jay, when we know Jay will do NOTHING, even if directly confronted with the topic.

This probably will blow by like nothing and nothing will come of it, but in Magical Christmasland, this could help spark the return on real NYC rap, along with MCs giving a shit and being competitive music wise.

Re:cars
something used(I know no one will help me get a new car , if I could I’d get a 5 door focus, gas mileage on it is good.)
reliable and the parts won’t break you, maintenance is readily easy, as in any decent mechanic can fix it and most auto parts stores will readily stock parts for it.
I want some bomb gas mileage, good room for cargo, I eventually want to get into flatland bmx, have been wanting to for years.
I just need the money.
also transporting my dj gear.
help me out car people, I’ve never owned a car or drove before.
The driving thing will change soon.

I remember when I was told that a resume should be one page long. So I started getting my resume ready my junior year in college and my pops laughed my ass out. He was like “Boy, my resume is like 20 pages long”…he showed me the shit was like a small magazine binded in a folder.

Real talk, a resume should simply be tailored for the job you are applying for. It isn’t like getting signed at a record label - don’t need neon smell good paper to get attention - if so then you’re missing the content that you need for the job. Resume should be clean, easy to read, straight forward, and explain your experience. For instance…

there is no relevancy with the crown. diddy runs New York more than pretty much anyone else on the rap radar. This ninja Papoose never dropped an album, never dropped a single (and if he did thats even worse), is unknown to all ‘but 5%’ of those who listen to rap. He’s more famous for being “That chump who married a chick going to jail for like ten years”. He aint KONY, he aint PONY, he not the JONY or the QONY. He’s a peasant in the rap landcape of New York…aka he just lives there.

  • :bluu:

Hey do you, I’m mos def not trying to steer you…I don’t fit in 90% of the cars you’ve mentioned. On a personal note htough I think 90% of car 'performance is a waste of time - you can only accelerate as far as the car in front of you, and US speed limits ttop out at like 75 mph…but I’m a more functional guy at this point in my life except for shoes.

  • :bluu:

what the fuck has Papoose done? exactly.

this media stunt will blow over. for better or worst, the rap game is fragmented, there’s many lanes out there. the shit we like is niche now. we the fighting games of the rap game and the popular shit is FPS. KONY is irrelevant. the idea of MC’s battling, proving their cred, being competitive is in the past. rap moves in cycles so many that’ll come back but not anytime soon. the internet fucked the game up (it’s been said many times). people been saying NY needs to make a comeback for what almost ten years now? NY heads gonna get mad but we don’t need NY to make a comeback, that shit ain’t gonna magically improve the game.

i used to check nahright everyday. now i don’t even check it anymore

That’s part of my point. The “crown” at least had MCs trying to compete, which made for better music. If he, qualified or not, dusts it off and claims it, maybe some cats will let their ego run with it and take it from him. Papoose, for all his faults, can rap, and as a fan of lyrics and skills, as you are, you have to give him at least some credit for trying to make that matter. Diddy is the most powerful man in NYC, but he is irrelevant to the culture. His albums are no longer Hip-Hop, his label is all but vanished, and there are barely any Hip-Hop acts on there anyway. Credible ones, anyway. Like I said, Nas is the closest thing to a real KONY, but he hasn’t mentioned or acted like he cares since “Last Real Nigga Alive”. Let Pap try at least, lol. IMHO, this is the most legit attempt to “bring NY/real Hip-Hop back”. Competition raises everyone’s level, and he might at least get the proverbial ball rolling.

@boom! I disagree on some of your points. NYC, or any region, for that matter, being themselves instead of the cloning and dickriding that goes on can do nothing but improve the game. NYC, being “the Mecca”, “coming back” would be nothing but an improvement. MCs trying to one up each other again and getting back to being nice would do nothing but improve the game. The only people that would be hurt are the wack niggas, and those who profit from them.

:bluu:

if you want easy maintenace, get an old car like pre 05…pre 00’ would be even better if low mileage. The newer the car - the more crap built into it. Your description sounds like an Honda Civic SI hatchback from a while back…good mileage, easy to work on, has cargo room, etc

  • :bluu:

It doesn’t come in automatic.
edit: I want a 4 door.
