why you care if he was gay? Either you like the music or not. Why you want to be up in his personal? Its like rap fans are jealous; they wanted to be the one working the dilznik. WHy else would they care about personal life shit. You want his dilz; you love it. This emphasis on image makes rap appear as the most repressedly homosexual genre in music, I wouldnt be surprised if madd rappers did come out gay after this. Who would care? Jealous Rap fans with their passions for da realest bilbo zaggins.
Selling dope to your own community, abusing drugs, killing people = a-ok
being gay = stain on hip hop
I mean, most people listen to artist they identify with. The rapper is basically selling you their lifestyle. If an openly gay rapper came out, and dropped an album…i cant relate to his lifestyle so, im not going to listen to him. I dont really even like hearing female rappers…so im definetly not going to check for a gay one. Its not just rap tho…im not checking for boy george, lady gaga or elton john either. Its not homophobia…its just nah, im good.
Edit: Heres the interview Thurst. Its about half way in…its short anyway tho

Nah man,i don’t get down like that.I can’t speak for no one else, but I would feel mad uncomfortable listening to a openly gay mc.That goes for any genre not just hip hop.I dont listen to Lady Gaga,Katy Perry becuase I dont feel right listening to it.Im not one of those gay bashers either. It’s just everyone has their road to go down on and thats not mine.I still give respect and treat them like human beings.Yes and it is a matter of being true, forget rap.that applies to real life also.Cuz In Guru’s case, dude’s always said uplifting things. And his music helped me better myself.Like Epidemic said u can relate.I related to “Discipline”,“Nice Girl,Wrong Place”,“Peace Of Mind”,“Who’s Gonna Take The Weight”,"? Remainz",“This Life”,“Moment Of Truth”
Those joints got me through some obstacles in life. Again,me personally I don’t beleive Guru was gay although i’ve joked about it.but in all serious i don’t think he was,but if he was and if it came out that would be a let down for alot of people.I would never give up the jewels Guru dropped in his music if that came out,but some will, simply because Guru would come off as a hypocrite. All im saying is be honest from jump whether good bad or ugly. And Guru has about the ugly stuff like his drinking problem(Moment Of Truth,Deadly Habitz). So much respect for that
As for that whole it’s ok to talk about selling crack etc but it’s not to be a gay mc.The way I look at it’s like what Chuck D said Hip Hop is the hood’s CNN.Hip Hop reports on hood shit. And that gay shit don’t fly in the hood.Im not being homophobic im just telling it like it is.And you have to be a dumb dude(im not directing this at Warpticon,im talking about MC’s who have made it) after you made millions, thousands or even enough to make it legally. Why you still want to slang and bang?I understand if it’s some self defense type of shit where some street shit from the past came back to you.But to go out there and start something just so you can say “im living what i say” is dumb as hell my dude.Like Cube said “We Gotta Get Rid Of That Hood Mentality”
I don’t mean any harm by posting this.Hope no offense is taken.peace
EDIT:I think Bobby Brown pretty much clears it up on how I think about it,not homophobic it’s about being real and manning up:
I hear this a lot, and I honestly think it’s bullshit. At least, it’s nowhere near universal. Because your average rap listener can relate to Big Pimpin’, right?
honestly, yeah. jay-z said it best on an interview with bill maher, when listening to rap most people put themselves in the rapper’s shoes. my taste in music mirrors my taste in mnovies, and in both of those mediums i’m not trying to listen to or watch some overtly homosexual shit.
So youve acknowledged that you can relate to Guru’s stories whether he is gay or not. That is good, thats part of why people enjoy a good story. But you said that you would rather he not be gay. Why? Is it becuase that you figure if you can relate to a gay man’s tales that you would be gay as well? If you are worried that something so ridiculous/subtle could tip your sexuality on its head then you must harbor some degree of homosexuality. No? Is the fact that you can relate to Bobby Brown’s response in that video supposed to convince me that you are secure in your sexuality?
also: are you using the hood mentality as an excuse or villianizing it? Your position is unclear to me.
But Guru was anything but overtly homo is his songs. So how does your post relate?
Hmm, my only issue with the “debate” is I agree, if he was gay, I would’ve preferred he be open about it, especially if his lyrics denote a different lifestyle (but there are so many fake-ass rappers, that Guru isn’t the only who needs to come out of the closet. It took some janky web site to unearth Rick Ross was a correctional officer and not the vaunted drug dealer he said he was).
Also, as an artist, I like Elton John’s music. I don’t agree with his lifestyle but his music is great. Go ahead and say you don’t like Tiny Dancer. Now, I won’t lie if he came out with a song about pounding some dude’s butt or what not, I’d denounce it.
Anyone listen to Wiz Khalifa? Always enjoyed lot of his music, but his latest mixtape has this song that samples from Chrono Trigger, pretty dope beat w/ solid delivery.
