The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants, Opinions Vol 7. Death to Swizz Beats!

understood…love the man pre jazzamatazz cause i didnt care for it after the 'break–up"… love the gangstarr songs presented and great music but that is the exact reference I get when I simply ask…its ignorant… its homophobia… remember i am the one that has a problem with terms like “no homo” cause I am a grown ass man and not insecure

my point is that in a moment where it IS questionable no one wants to lay a fuccin finger on it… now thats bitch shyt. no one wants to open their mouths about it. if you want to question… this would be the case cause these whole situation reeks a relationship behind closed doors and BECAUSE of the stupidity of one party its easily pointed out

sorry if i struck a nerve maxx (no disrespect we grown an can have good arguments) but hey im not one hold anything back and i will VOICE my opinion and dont give two fuccs how one feels. do i respect guru… to a point. to i respect his catalog of work…not all but i know the masterpieces an i will be honest enough to say that just like pete rock an cl smooth I honestly enjoyed the PRODUCER/DJ more… but im putting that ish to the side cause we ALL know an respect that factor…BUT since everyone on the radio an blogs an FRIENDS an FANS want to get into his life an why solar is controlling everything…would it hurt if is lifestyle was not of the hip hop normal??? would that hurt if you found out they were on the dl??? would it hurt if u found out thats why solar took full control an didnt want his family involved cause he could get ‘exposed’…just askin for argument sake playa.

being how so anti gay hip hop is…is it that crazy he said anti gay things…especially back in the day? Its not like today where its really alot more acceptable…i can accept it, being the state of the game he came up in.

Shit is dope

ok this is my views personally

-i dont care if he’s gay or not…his music still stands for me. i can understand if u wanna judge him as a person…just dont judge him as an artist. especially in the day he grew up in…you should know better than most that he woulda never had his foot in the door if he was openly gay…he woulda never made such great music.
-i think solar just took advantage of the situation and being how fucked up guru was he couldnt make a good decision and doctors shoulda recognized that shit and took handle.
-honestly i wouldnt be shocked if him being gay was one of raps big industry secrets…like their are prob madd rappers on the d.l but no one woulda ever let that shit out.
-man boston got no good rappers…lol…let us have this one.

Only reason I think people aren’t touching on it now is that we, the general public, don’t know what is true and what is not. Speculation on what was said, and who said what is on the top of the list before getting into the “dirty details”. More people are still in shock over the WHOLE ordeal (family, Premier, Solar, Cancer, sudden death) and are upset right now. Honestly, I want to see TMZ go in on this, cause they have the means and the people to get the info plus the truth.

The last couple of months, when the whole thing went down I thought to myself, “That shit is really gaytastic”; but didn’t look into it more than that. I think the biggest reason is that being “gay” is more accepted, even in the hiphop world. (Proof…latest fashions + Kayne West) I myself wouldn’t care either way if the truth came out. Lemonade will still be a popular drink

I would still listen to his old shit… If he came out of the closest and told everyone he was gay…then put out a new album, I wouldn’t cop it. Straight up. I don’t wanna hear homo raps.

And thats anybody, whether it was Nas, Jay, whatever…

All that said, I was never on Guru like that anyway so meh.

wut if their wasnt any homo stuff in it?

^c’mon son…dudes a rapper. Who knows how many homo innuendos will be in his rhymes. You honestly think there wouldn’t be ANY homo shit in an openly gay rappers album?? He has to please his new audience afterall.

this whole idea is hypothetical since he’s dead so roll wit it…hypothetically if he wasnt tryin to cater to a new gay audience would u listen if he had no homo lines?

  • I know if he was he wouldnt… not trippin off that playa… again i dont care if he was gay either

  • ok but solar took ‘advantage’ when they first hooked up post premier… guru was alive an well then… very alive an well

  • nor would i… an i agree with u on ya point.

  • lol i feel u playa but it was something that just struck a nerve cause everyone is constantly diggin… diggin… an i can hear it in interviews an tributes but people are holding back from actually saying it… its as if they are waiting for family or solar to say something or some type of evidence to give that without a doubt…

assuming he was gay even if not…just a good strong friendship…people do stupid shit for people they love/are friends wit. but thats all i can really say…to defend that situation.

Nope.

its cool yo… i see ya view. again my point is what i said… funny how folks dont want to say sumin when they see a very suspect situation (IMO)…

nah i understand…sum things gotta be discussed, just in a proper way…not like these muthafuckers on nah right comments going “awww damn…he’s gay fuck that ***.”

I agree, but i think it would be more of a problem since he came from that era.People would judge him on that “dawg, you should know better” tip.Me personally,I don’t beleive dude was gay.I just think Guru made some real bad choices by ditching Preemo and linking up with Solar.Yes,Guru’s music with Solar was straight trash.I couldn’t bear listening to it.But on a person level,I think Preemo/Gang Starr Foundation had much more respect and love for Guru as a person than Solar.Solar’s attitude always screamed out to me “Text Book CEO”.Like he read Hip Hop Buisness for dummies.Dude just seemed so see threw to me.

As far as homo lyrics in hip hop goes.NOPE,I wouldn’t want to hear that.Even if it’s on some lesbo ish I still wouldn’t want to hear that.

See, I don’t care. You could tell me Guru and Preem used to get it in… Dwyck was originally called Dick… whatever. If Mass Appeal comes on, I’m still turning it up.

Koop, real talk, there is one reason folks aren’t saying anything…

Just like Michael Jackson and the little kid stuff…when someone dies “people stop talking like that” out of respect, whether they believe it or not. I don’t think I’ve heard any real MJ jokes referencing kids since he died (some color changing ones though shrug). And the whole gay thing falls so inline EASILY wit hthe situation, that folks not talkign about it - its strcitly because dude died. If Guru came out of the coma and lived to do another album, I garunteee people would be way more outspoken about the gay angle.

I’ve never bought a Gangstarr album…nor a Guru solo…so it wouldn’t matter if he was gay or not. Honestly, the only scenerio in which I would be ‘distasted’ by an artist being gay, would be a womanizing type…the kind that you feel you’ve just been lied to, or the overly done stereo-types who would run it into the ground and annoy the fuck out of me.

If Eminem turned out to be gay, it would upset me simply because of the gay bashing…if DMX turned out to be gay shrug…shit would make sense

  • :bluu:

lol dmx being gay would explain that fucking pedicure in his mtv diary shit years ago. lol.

Nothing wrong with wanting your nails to look good.

except when u straight face go to the camera and say ur life is hard, everyone after you…the streets be making u a thug. look i dunno what thug is gettin his nails done while he got a camera team following him.
