The Raging Storm 2009 Planning Thread: PHX: June 19-21st, 2009

I’ll mention this again…don’t just bring the usual Japanese guys that come to Evo…Mago is a crazy good player at many games, but he doesn’t reprsent the kof98/2k2 scene because he isn’t necessarily one of the best. Bring the masters of kof2k2/98 please. If you do talk to Dune, ask him to get you connections to players like Oogosho, 777, Kyabetsu, Nobu, Hammer, Kyappu, etc etc. In fact, if you hang around GGPO enough, you could probably find someone that has connections to Dakou, though I don’t think he is going to bother to come since he will just blow everyone out no contest with the exception of some of the japanese (which he’ll probably still beat anyway).

If you want people to take this seriously, you also have to be selective on which players you bring. No scrubs allowed or obviously none of these top players will take it seriously…

Which venue, mine or the Phoenix one?

Yeah trust me I’m pretty much eliminating the scrub battles from the tournaments (They won’t make the DVD thats for sure  and they know they are gonna get eliminated PRETTY FAST…I say more like no dabblers allowed…only SERIOUS SNK players!)…I finally got in contact with Shura so as soon as things slow down on my end (busy as hell), I’m gonna talk to him on his msn about getting in touch with Dune…

Thanks again for the advice Emil… I want the real players…like I said no offense to Mago but I know he’s not one of the best…in 2k2 or 98…

You can’t really be selective on who you bring- some people might want to take a crack at knocking off a top player. It’s not impossible for a mid tier player to get a result on a top tier player with some guts and luck.

If you only had top players, you’d end up with a 4 person tourney, and no one wants to see that.

That is true, though I do understand what Emil is saying…basically he’s saying I can’t have the level of tournaments be remotely close to the stuff I get at other places other than EVO…and he’s right…quite frankly that would do nothing for me even, I need competition, I feed on it, and I want to turn this into an international monster, so I want to lure as much competition as possible.

As you all see, this thread has been moved to Tournament and Events…I guess planning puts it in Tournament and Events section lol.

El Paso

What are you looking at running in particular??? We will go from a 1,300 sq. foot room to a 3,300 sq.foot room the more confirmations we get so it will depend…

My bad about earlier post sir. Just do what you feel is right and everything will be great! You got the heart and the connections to make this a great event. Also there’s a buzz starting to gather about your event and thats always a good thing imo.
Hit me up on aim yo! I want to holla at you.

[/QUote]

This list is tenative and it will change, but I was thinking that I could run:

Marvel teams(2v2)
3s teams(3v3)
Brawl teams(3v3)
Item Standard Play Brawl(1v1)
TvC (2v2)
STHD Remix(2v2)
CvS2(2v2)
Waka Waka 7(1v1)

All tournaments will use the FW Classic rules.

I wouldn’t mind if alot of those games were ran to be honest, I was actually wondering myself why there wasn’t any HD Remix at least as a side thing. This is gonna be a hell of a long tournament list though if we throw all of that in, we gotta keep track of how many games people wanna run cause we dun wanna offer too many and have too few sign up for each.

Well, what do you suggest is ran or not? I said that the list will change, and I want some input into this.

I can’t say for certain, If i could, id love to have all those games ran, but I think the best way to do it is have the registered people going to the thing make a vote. I just don’t want to run the risk of the Purpose of the Convention loosing focus (Its a SNK-Centric con) and just turning into your usual gathering of Fighting games and whatnot. I’m probably overthinking it but thats just my thoughts I suppose. In the end, run it by DG and see how many people sign up for each, though we also have to take into account scheduling since there may be many people who would want to go to many of what u recommended, and also the main tournaments, and having too many games may clutter up the schedules for a lot of potential participants, Especially since you never know how long tourneys can run for. I hope u can understand a bit of my concern.

When r u on AIM? You are hard to catch…everytime I sign on I see “atlshinblanka2k4 is offline” so I’m gonna sign on and then leave you a message lol.

I’m taking Waku Waku 7!!!

HD Remix is on the list, Larry put the idea up there and I’m tossing around talking to my staff making sure they can handle all of this. I don’t wanna overload my staff see that’s the thing…

I’ll chime in on this later I gotta go run some errands.

I’ll chime in on this a lil later.

This is with no hate or malice, or any attempts to instigate anything I realize it’s a long shot, but Emil it’d be really cool if you considered going. I mean, Dark Geese and Emil together bringing a SNK major to North America? That’d be pretty badass.

You could play each other in some exhibition for the tournament.

Like I say, I realize this is a longshot, and I don’t ask in an attempt to instigate any of the usual drama that unfortunately surrounds that question sometimes, but I think it’d be pretty cool.

Even if it was out of malice we’d see through it because me and Emil are past that stage…It’d be great if Emil could come to this but if he doesn’t I understand…

:china:

Okay just got in from a long day at work and time to get back to work on the planning…

k, Ill be on aim, and some Dark Kakashi dude msged your other forum (the announcement one) check that out

Thats Webster…

I’m thinking about having STHD, TVC, FUC be added to the list as side games on Friday/casual day for the tournament since we will be having casuals, exhibitions and Money Matches that day.

What do you all think? I have the people to run them…as I am talking to some of them online. I also have an MSN online its darkgeese@hotmail.com if you all want to contact me that way.

Also should we get the BlazBlue cab from ElvenShadow and get him down here BlazBlue will be a MAJOR… and entry fee will be $20…
(I’ve Pmed him on the situation etc how I’m willing to pay for the shipping of the cab etc…)

Also for promotional purposes I wanna set up a Money Match with Ryan Hart in 98UM for the DVD… (I’m much better prepared now than at EVO  )

PHOENIX EDIT:

Guys the irony of the situation is that due to Devastation 2009 happening on June 19-21st and Robb having agreed to let me team up with him for Devastation 2009, it seems the PHOENIX SNK Major is gonna happen BEFORE (June) the El Paso major (July).

Thus Oscar, we need to start talking IMMEDIATELY.

Tentative PHO Games + information:

Devastation 2009 and Dark Geese Team up to allow: Raging Storm 2009- Border Wars (West Coast!)

On June 19-21st!

Registration: $10

Games:

**
KOF 2002 NEO GEO: $10
KOF 2002 UM: $10
KOF 98 UM: $10
KOFXI: $10
Garou MOTW: $10**

The beauty is as Oscar said I won’t have to completely pay for my own venue and we will have plenty space…

I can almost assure you this will mean I won’t be going to MWC (hell maybe even EVO and FR I’ll keep you all posted) because this is gonna stretch my wallet too thin having to plan for this and for my own venue Major in El Paso the month right after…

DISCUSS!!!

Staff:

Dark Geese- Head Raging Storm 2009 (Phoenix and El Paso) Organizer and Planner
Oscar The Answer- West Coast, MexiCali+Mexico Liason and Assistant
Sazae- Neo Geo Technical Support, Tournament Assistant

**EL PASO EDIT: **Accordingly we may have Mixup as a KOFXI player!!! :lovin: I am considering having side tournaments be run on Friday and having MVC2 as one of them since Mixup is interested in our Major!!! I’m also considering STHD and TVC on Friday also since that is MM/EXH/Casuals day.

New Seeding Rules:

Since the Phoenix Major and the El Paso Major are back to back, and to lure people to go TO BOTH, The Winner of the Phoenix Majors gets Seeded High in the El Paso Major and does NOT have to pay for Registration!!!
(Thanks to Sazae for the idea!!!)

-DG

so two of em this year huh, hella ambitious. I doubt i can make it to both, at least one of em, though I want to go to the bigger one since I kinda need to be filled in as to how this partnership is gonna work as.

Yeah but it has to be done…instead of me spending this money going to these other events having SNK side tournaments…its time to put that money into doing my own…

So here’s how it stands as me and Oscar have gotten off the phone:

1st: Qualifier rules: Winners in PHO tourney Major get free registration, high seeding, and possible lodging help (lol) from me at the El Paso tournament. (Since that one is an even bigger International tournament)

2nd: Trophies will be issued out to the winners of the Majors in the Phoenix Tournament.

3rd: Tentative Bonus Pots at the PHO tourney:

****2002 Neo Geo: $250 for first place
98UM: $250 for first place.

Remember all this in ADDITION to first place getting in free at the El Paso Major!!!

Also Adding Garou MOTW to the list of Majors in PHO and El Paso as a high possibility!

Webster here:

Yo DG I’ll just call you when I get home, cool?

And BTW, yellow is a terrible color to read online, with the gray background. Please change it to red or something…lol

Why you keeping the gray background??? I dont like the gray background at all…

**ATLANTA Major EDIT: **

Larry would you be open to teaming up like next year Final Round XIII and my Raging Storm SNK Major in Atlanta??? That would be 2 dvds…The FR DVD and the RS: Atlanta DVD (With It being Quals for El Paso just like everywhere else) (This year is tooo close and believe me I KNOW HOW THAT GOES!!!)

Here is the logo for the EL Paso Major:
