The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

I know it seems like that, but it’s no secret that Chris g’s morrigan isn’t the best. He uses her for astral-zoning, and has her backed up with hidden missiles. And that newb combo he did with the 2 st. :h:'s and not following up with a cornered air finishing shower! Oh my goodness.

While Chris G’s morrigan isnt the best, hes leveled up with her very nicely since he started using her. Hes probably the best player using Morrigan right now, even if he isnt the best Morrigan player.

ChrisG’s Morrigan used to not be so great, but now I’d say he’s the best Morrigan player. His confirms off of missiles are amazing. Watching him play in person at EVO was awesome. And at Shoultzula, I don’t know why you’re getting so defensive. No one here has said anything remotely offensive to you.

If he wins, he’s the best.

Horrible logic lol

He’s not the best morrigan but definitely the best player playing her currently. He is the best Morri/Doom player in general(so far), and the most successful Morri/Doom player(at least for now). While his Morrigan is great you can easily make an arguement that his Akuma, or Hawkeye does almost twice the work as Morrigan does at times.

Not to mention he is one of the best players in the world in general so that alone adds to a lot of factors. Also, Morrigan herself hasn’t really seen much presence worldwide. Still a good bit of unrecognized players, not because they don’t won’t to get out there and compete, but more on the lines being unable to do so because they just can’t make it to large events. Game is also still piss-ass young. More players will show-up over time.

Edit: Also advise checking out the Gushiken Matsuri Tougeki matches for UMvC3. They had a very mobile Morrigan player using a team of Morri/Ammy/R.R. He had a nice pace of control with morrigan’s fireballs, and could land a good soul fist loop combo when needed. he also had nice usage of Shadow servant, and his teams THC.

Chris G is the best player who uses Morrigan, but that doesn’t mean he’s the best Morrigan. Just like how F Champ is the best player using Magneto and Doom, but he’s not the best Magneto and Doom player

Bleh, we could have this argument for months, it’s all about opinion. I say we leave it at we all think a little differently:P

The fact he gets clean hits is beyond me. He NEVER does a low after an Air S. He does the low after missiles already hit. You could block his morrigan like its nova player lol

I didn’t try this with other characters, but something silly I noticed with Morrigan is that you don’t need to plink her backdash. You can just mash on whatever two buttons you use for dashing and she’ll backdash repeatedly. It looks pretty funny.

Nooneyouknow mentioned this a page or 2 ago. I never bothered with it lol

It’s really good for retreating and getting some space when you’re zoning with fireballs. It’s her fastest way to move backwards.

I saw footage of that Japanese Morrigan/Ammy/Rocket Racoon player, and his mobility was really on point. Is that the type of plink dash movement you were talking about Shoultzula?

Is it any better than a regular air back dash? Will it screw with unfly?

Yeah, test it out for yourself, and no it will not mess with your flight mode. She’s simply canceling an air back dash into another one.

It was a combination of normal flight air-dashing within multiple directions, and plink dashing when he needed to cover larger amounts of space faster(be it retreating or approaching).

Also, another reason for why I like watching Jeo is his lack of having to use astral vision for a solid funnel of fireballs. Here is a old video of him playing Kusoru(if anyone cares). Gives a nice showing of his movement, and general play with Morrigan. All he needs is missiles instead of wesker(but hey, it’s his team so I really have no say).

Shout-outs to two of japan’s morrigans getting in to tougeki(was hoping for three). One being Jeo, and another being another guy that I’ve seen once or twice(can’t remember his name though).

So, I started playing with her plink dashes for doing multiple up or multiple down dashes in a row, and that could be quite useful at times. I don’t think it’s any better for pure forward movement than alternating up/down, but you can do some interesting things with her height doing up/up or down/down.

There wasn’t a single plink dash in this match. There were plenty of forward dashes canceled into down dashes canceled into forward dashes, and a couple of back dashes canceled into itself, but no plink dashes. Very good movement overall though, it never occurred to me to cancel forward into down instead of alternating up and down.

The video wasn’t in reference to plink dashing. It was just to show his movement with air-dashing while in flight(later videos have him plink dashing at specific points). Just didn’t think I’d needed to clarify.

And I thought the forward dash into down dash was common knowledge? It’s faster in terms of approaching instead of up and down which keeps you at roughly the same height, but with more dynamic movement.

Plink dashing her ADDF after a flight cancelled fireball seems like the best application. You can actually catch up to and surpass the L or M fireball you did at super jump height.

Normally when you do an ADDF in flight you have to cancel the downforward arc into a j.S to stop it from curving upward and becoming useless for offense. You get the ability to create a 45 degree arc but you can only do one ADDF without plinking. This limits the distance you can travel with her ADDF.

However, If you use plink dashing it gives you the ability to ADDF a second time before you go below the air dash height threshold which lets you get a lot longer 45 degree angle airdash arc which covers more ground. As I said it also gives you the ability to use your flight cancelled L or M soul fist as a shield all the way to the ground.

This method allows you to cross 3/4 of the screen whereas a normal addf in flight cancelled into j.S will only cross around 1/4 of the screen.

It is common knowledge, I just never thought to actually do it. All dashes cancel into another direction of dash naturally. Sorry, all of the Jeo plink dashing hype had me looking for it in any match of his I would see.
