I’ll see if I can find them all. Unless someone else does before me.
the trap does some good things. It racks up insane chip damage which is basically hella incentive for them to move. Once they move, you can flood where you think they will go.
you kind of need to factor chip damage with morrigan anyway. Chipping, mixing up and doing combos are all parts to her AV game.
one thing I wanted to point out is that the clone during AV can be used for footsie. You can be full screen against the opponent while in AV and you do shit like srk+l, flight, SF and get it to combo ONLY from the clone. Its really picky though but i’ve done like 7-8 hit combos where the clone was the only thing making contact. Its really funky though because the clone is related to the distance of the opponent but the opponent can move into the hit boxes. I think sooner or later, she’ll be able to use it effectively which would be really cool.
there are a few vids of jeo on youtube but some of his better matches I’ve seen from him are on streams which haven’t been ripped individually. Since everything is in Japanese its hard to read but jeo is easily one of the best from his country and he runs an entire different strategy than chris G and quite effectively too.
Oh, no wonder I couldn’t find any videos of him sounds great, though.
I read morrigan’s mirror can sometimes hit the opponent when the real morrigan can’t because of asymmetrical hurtboxes among the cast. I personally haven’t gotten it to happen.
Does anyone know of an assist that allows Morrigan to combo off of her throws after Shadow Servant? I can’t seem to find one.
Just do Bionic Arm -> Astral Vision -> Soul Fist and you can see the asymmetrical hurtboxes in action.
I’ve been trying to incorporate some of Morrigan’s ground normals in my game more such as st.H and cr.L, but does anyone have any uses for fwd.M?
i’ve inquired about her F+:m: as well, and no one had any answers for me. the only time i see morrigan players use it is when they tried to do a fireball.
the vanilla guide mentioned that it has a large, displaced hitbox in front of morrigan, so i’m assuming it would be a great poke. it just takes a second to come out. maybe try using it against characters who approach on the ground or possibly from a frontal air attack.
the hitstun on counterhit is also massive! morrigan has enough time to ground dash and start a combo!
fwd+m is a detached hit box but it takes like 13f which is pretty slow. fwd+m on hit\block is ridiculous, hella +frames so its really good after for block strings into fly\unfly. It actually might be + on block if you fly\unfly out of it. Since you can buffer into normals, you can do shit like s.l, fwd+m and this will be gapped on block. If they try to mash, fwd+m will hit as counter hit for free unless they mash invincible moves or fast ass supers and even then, the super might get snuffed. fwd+m also allows soul drain to combo and if you land a hit during AV, this is guaranteed 60% meter that goes into a combo.
I’ve tried using the fwd+m as AA but its really slow and it doesn’t have much of a vertical hit box. I should really look @ that move on the vita again. Its definitely her least used poke ATM. I know quite a bit about her and I don’t even use the damn thing which is pretty stupid because I know it has a place. I’m sure the poke is massive for 13f startup. It probably has that exploding hit box just like the rest of morrigan’s other moves.
Probably call doom at the same time of throwing.
Just to put some input towards this: call doom as you hit s to launch. If you’re going for 2 souldrains, do j.m j…m j.h j.s quickly, as soon as you land, soul drain, fly, souldrain. This is a reset as they will bounce out immediately while airborne with you on the ground in front of them. You can air throw or go into a j.l to start a new combo. You can also soul drain, fly, shadowblade (I use M, although he stated H), then missile. Using M allows you to either go for a j.l (as you’re falling) to reset them, or a jumping heavy, which does the same or does a little more damage. You can also dhc into vergils spiral swords from souldrain s > fly > shadowblade m > missiles > spiral swords leading with a lunar phase.
If you do a similar type setup outside of corner (typical combo into s + doomcall) superjump j.m j.m j.h j.s you can: (if done quickly) land > soul drain astral vision (you’re a full screen away, they’re knocked into the air by missiles and lose meter, and they’re pretty much forced into falling into astral vision spam (can be blocked - doesn’t combo from the sd)
You can also delay your combo in the air a little, and as you land, jump, add.s (to get close) shadowblade m + missile
You can connect a Soul Drain off of her f. in the corner and anywhere while in AV. You can also do it midscreen without AV, but the spacing needs to be just right.
Thanks for the advice. I tried using fwd+m after blocked st.L tonight and it worked like a charm for counter hits, especially against opponents who get antsy in the corner and try to mash pushblock.
I’m assuming most of us in here are running Hidden Missiles, but how do you guys go about setting up an opponent to start your mix up game. I know once I get in and start Morrigan has a lot of layers to mix an opponent up, but I’m having trouble actually keeping my opponent pinned down and stopping them from constantly pushblocking and chicken blocking. The assists I’m using with her are Hidden Missiles and EM Disruptor.
yea, that gapped layer is to bait push blocks primarily. Works really good from my exp too.
I went back and looked @ the vita hit boxes for fwd+m and its massive! The box doesn’t pop but it is pretty fucking huge none the less. If someone rips a picture of morrigan doing fwd+m, i’ll draw the circle. would take less than 2 minutes if someone REALLY wanted to know what it looks like.
its really tricky with her. You have to know morrigans whole game in order to get mixups. A majority of the time, my mixups never come from missiles but from FBs that get in the way and you transition into fly, AD mixups from there. Plinking helps the mixup game because you get so many more dashes to use to follow up fireballs. It gives you way more positional looks. I also seem to land quite a bit of mixups in AV. I usually cross the opponent up once just so my clone and I switch sides then I go for hi\low right there. Most people get lost because that apex switch with the clone does this really fast side switch. looks really disorienting.
mixups don’t only have to come from hi\low, they can come from crossing over with fireballs mid screen. These are really good mixups for when the opponents jump. Its an independent hit box that creates a mixup thus making them safe attempts that lead to +frame scenarios on block and on hit, they can be followed up if you can plink really well.
You can also do NJ\SJ poke series into single\double FB layers into dashes. I call them “guiding” mixups because you use the poke series to guide them towards the ground, the FB forces the ground pin and block stun and the AD creates the mixup.
certain team builds also allow better mixup potential. Dante jam session is pretty ridiculous for morrigan. Its a multipurpose assist for her and one of the things that makes it multipurpose is that you can poke into it and then get a mixup scenario. Dog is really good too for mixups but we already have a player that runs doom\dog so for the sake of diversity, I’ve chosen not to play it.
+1 for those videos of Jeo and plink dashing plz
What is plink dashing anyway?

: )
Thanks for the video! That looks beneficial to dr. Strange! It also looks hard to learn. How exactly does that help morrigan?
The same concept can be applied to air dashes as well. When you see Magneto’s zooming across the screen they are usually plink dashing.
go watch jeo =p
plink is a 1f input iirc and you have to input these 50+times a round. Its definitely not easy
I couldn’t find any jeo videos.
Whoa! Lol. I’ve had enough one framers from ssfiv. This is coming from someone who finished ALL of those damn trials. I’ll just stick with morrigan’s “tri-dash.” it also sounds like you need a stick to do it, correct?
you dont need stick to do it. You can use macros to make it easier

someone doing this on pad
