The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

or you migt want to try a kara :h: command throw either cancel :m: or cr :h: and it has very deceptive rage

or even stick to the :l: version for more range

while testing mags -> morrigan dhc trick, she can do some weird re-loop for extra damage in AV mode

f.:h: j.:m: j.:h: j.:s: st.:m: cr.:h: f.:h: j.:m: j.:h: j.:s: st.:m: cr.:h: st.:s: j.:m: j.:m: j.:h: m-shadowblade fly j.:h: h-shadowblade
iirc it does around 550k

Nice, I was just about to mess with a combo like this since I found out Mag can set up the reset

has anyone else figured out some neat AV combos?
like 50% of the time they fall out of the second loop of mine.
i don’t know what’s up.

^^ umm i always just go for a hit confirm into her max damage combo since you can do it out of corner when you have AV activated.

Morrigan is last character on my team so most of the time i use AV+lvl3 Xfactor. and spam the hell out of soul fist (fly, unfly sequence)

however if im up close and landed a ground combo i would reset the damage with fly then S (instant overhead) and continue my bnb.

sequence AV mode:

IAD, j:h:, :l:, :m:, :h:, :m:, :h:, fly, :s:, c:l:,c:m:,c:h:, :f::h:, j:m:, j:h:, j:s:, :m:, :s:, sj, j:m:, j:m:, j:h:, M ShadowBlade (if i have hyper to cancel otherwise i use H)

Hey Morrigan loverz  I’m a C.Viper point player and I always rely on my Morrigan comebacks so I thought i’d come see if i can learn to be the best best Morrigan I can be  Any dedicated Morrigan teachers would be appreciated!
Main question is how can I do the longest combo’s possible? I get people in a launch state and go to that clone hyper after M M H. But I’d like to know how to use juggles more, someone help me pleeeeeeeeeeeeease =)

Does anyone have a good Morrigan combo to use specifically for DHC’ing? It seems her Shadow Servant hyper is really the only good one for comboing into other hypers and I’m not sure what the “optimal” combo into this would be.

ground series > launch > air series > slap down > Shadow Servant > DHC.

Longest combos aren’t always the most optimal due to hitstun and damage scaling(such as adding multiple st.H attacks in one combo). After a launch go with flight cancel combos and near the corner you can combo multiple Finishing Showers if you have to meter.

When you get your execution down pat you can go for fancy things like the combos trag posted in his vids or the fly/unfly fireball loops faulty posted(those combos are so damn cool).

Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but apparently the attacks performed by the Astral Vision clone don’t get any kind of damage boost or damage scaling reduction during X-Factor. Was testing out some stuff in training mode and noticed some wide discrepancies in the damage done by fireballs in XF3 AV.

Her damage would be so ridiculous if this wasn’t the case, lol.

any DS fan here?

why do i feel morrigan’s rush down game has turned into complete trash, no jump/dash cancel on her ground normals, and the ground dash so horribly slow, which is ok, but no instant overhead with ground dash is just sad, you could do that even in cvs2 days

now she has to rely on long range game, where half the shadow servant don’t even hit for full damage

I feel like morrigan’s rushdown is “like” Ironman’s, when you usually start your offense with an air dash,
but you don’t have any high-low mixup in your arsenal except jump-dash-attack, and you don’t have any crossup avaliable.

So, if my opponent just blocks well the high-low when they see me jumping, my only chance to create an opening is to mixup “:df:air-dash, wiff S, and command throw” with “:df:air-dash, don’t wiff H”.

Is that right?
I should work into high-low unblockables with a low-hitting assist, but to receive a counter-hit with both my 2 characters out is scary.

f.H is jump cancelable
j.H is a good cross-up, usually off of up-forward air-dash
s.L hits low
j.S hits up to 3 times and can be more useful in high-low mix-ups if you force only 1 or 2 of the hits to connect
almost every normal and special can be fly-canceled

No rush down, mix-ups, or cross-ups? Come on, people. Have you even used her? :stuck_out_tongue:

She can go for some fly-canceled resets a la Magneto too mid string/combo. Astral Vision really helps this too. You guys should also be using an assist like Sent drones or Cold Star to pin em down and work in the mixups. Your fireballs also help your rushdown since they make good cover.

J.M can also be used as a cross-up from downforward airdash at the right distance and height. Learning which of your moves will ambigiously cross-up from where is very important.

After playing Morrigan extensively (and doing well) her high-low mixup with her air-to-ground dash along with her command throw is very good. You just need an assist (almost any assist that covers horizontal distance) to hold people in place for a bit.

she can do everything (because she’s upper tier whether everyone knows it yet or not)

but she’s a zoning character
learn to abuse fly and multiple air dashes and you’ll have people crossing themselves up chasing after you

the mobility she has to cross the entire screen is better than 99% of the other characters, if you don’t abuse that and just walk into arms reach then you’re giving away half the fight that should belong to you

ps
xfactor + astral vision is another monster entirely

I think the mixup complaint comes from the fact that Morrigan doesn’t have her ground dash from the vampire series where it is actually FAST. Especially in Vampire Hunter, her ground dash led to very straight forward hi-low/crossup mixups.

Her parabolic dash in MvC3 is amazing though… its fast, it can crossup, its delayable. I feel her offense plays more like Q-bee’s rather than classic Morrigan now. With a good assist coverage + parabolic dash the only complaints about her mixup should be coming from your opponents honestly. And like faulydefense said, this all only applies if you decide not to be skin-peelingly annoying with her mobility.

One of my favorite things about Morrigan is that she can do a level 3 super in the air after a team aerial exchange and the damage is unscaled. She’s the only character in the game that has a level 3 super that works in the air. Shuma Gorath has one too but it has to be set up on the ground first.

I’m not certain of this but it seems to have worked a lot for me lately. As long as you aren’t full screen, shadow servant beats out chaotic flame on Dormamu. Its super invincible and super fast. I’m loving morrigan more and more every day
