The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

You’re serious right?

Have you guys been using meter assist or shadow blade assist more often? I can’t seem to decide between the two on my Trish/Dormammu/Morrigan team.

For your team, I would go with Shadow Blade assist, simply because it’d work wonders with Dormammu.

Why wouldn’t I be?

I have been playing a lot of Ryu/Morrigan/Hulk myself and it seems to work well. Ryu Tatsu assist, Morrigan meter assist and Gama wave assist usually, but it depends on who I am playing. I find Ryu’s ability to punish assists to be ridiculous when paired with near infinite meter. I like Hulk in here because he has a decent projectile assist and anti air for more rush down oriented teams, not to mention his health and damage out put is excellent. The only real issue is if I get on point with hulk I have a hard time getting in on pure keep away teams. Luckily I have run into very few people who play pure keep away. A Dormammu, Arthur, Modok team destroyed my hulk, and I would have lost but Shinku ended up killing Dormy and Arthur assist at the same time. Anyhow Morrigan is key to my game partly due to the meter assist and also because of her ability to play rush down or keep away. She runs away or closes really well.

Since most of Morrigan’s approaches are in the air, how do you guys normally deal with anti-air attacks/grabs?

I mix things up a lot so they never know when to do it. Jump in fire ball > fly cancel for instance. I also like to call in projectile assists. I use Hulk so I have to call it when I am a bit closer since it doesn’t cover full screen, but by now they know they can’t throw their move till I am nearly all the way in since they don’t know for sure if I am just going to throw a fire ball instead. I also make liberal use of her parabolic dash to keep things interesting.

Yeah, but they’re so good at keeping you out they don’t get hit for quite some time. Then they can mix you up with dat rushdown so it’s a fair trade for the great amount of flexibility the team has. Plus Mags can kill off one cr.A so…

I’ve been trying to extend my combos a bit by practicing flight cancel and I’m having a bit of trouble doing so. I’ve been practicing them in the air first so after what hit would it be better do cancel after a j.h or a shadow blade? and are they character specific?

Well, it’s kinda specific (if you compare Sentinel to Arthur), but mostly after a j.h I do St.B or if I’m low enough just cr.H and go into combo.

like…

j.H > H Shadow Blade> Fly> H Shadow blade

(Either off a random air hit or if you AA With shadow blade just omit the j.h)

J.H> J. S > Land> St. B > 6B > S > air combo

Something like that? Something tells me I’m talking about something totally different…

Oh and on a totally different subject. Can people check the morrigan combo thread and tell me what you think?

Can someone give me a brief, basic outline of the fireball/fly cancel thing? I see a lot of talk about it, and obviously I know how to cancel a fireball into fly and vice versa, but what’s the actual tactic and sequences employed?

The actual input is

The reason you do it

[details=Spoiler]
It’s mostly used to created a wall of fireballs to either frustrate your opponent or force him/her to come after you. It also nets meter and when used with Astral Vision can box your opponent into a corner.[/details]

Hope this helps.

I actually have just been hitting S after instead of the unfly, well mostly. If it was a super jump I won’t since I can’t call out an assist to cover my reapproach if they push block but I will if it wasn’t a super jump.

The main reason I unfly is if they try and punish you with a teleport or super, you can block after you unfly. If you hit S, you might not land in time.

Edit: I’m gonna start messing around with morrigan’s air dashes. I’ll let you guys know what I find.

Thanks very much. So you do the first fireball from the ground? That may be the part I was missing, because the videos I’ve been watching all seem to do it from the air.

Yup. You do the first one on the ground. Then the second one in the air. I mean, depending on where you are you can do it in the air. Like if your anchor dies and morrigan comes out you can Soul Fist L, then fly and land or Soul Fist H if they try to jump at you.

Sorry for the double post, I updated the combo thread with some command throw info. I’m about to add some Fly/Unfly stuff also.

Just created a Matchup thread, added some strats . Be sure to post what you know!!!

Great stuff, Rinsuku. Some nice strats there.

Is morrigans shadow blade invincible? Would you reccomend it over dark harmonizer? My team is Joe w/Voomerang (mostly rushdown) Deadpool w/Katana-Rama (mostly zoning) Morrigan (assist and clutch w/astral vision)

I say use Dark Harmonizer. It’s such an incredible assist, but Shadowblade has its uses(even though it is not invincible like most AAA). If you’re using Joe, you’re going to want that meter for him.

Edit: Lack of Morrigan at Winter Brawl makes me sad face. She is such a good character all around. =(
