I think the problem with looking at Soul Fist in TvC terms is that you could call assists during specials in TvC, while I’m preeety sure you can’t in MvC3. Hadouken-type assists were godlike in TvC for combo extensions and covering up unsafe specials, but I think they’ll take a hit in usefulness in MvC3.
If you already have a good anti-air on your team though, then yeah, you might as well try it out.
True. Although, I’m sure that if they try to approach Morrigan like that, her launcher will able to stop them considering her spear comes from the ground. And if it trades with the low attack, I’m sure the trade’s gonna be in Morrigan’s favor.
Also, assuming that her dashes are similar to her TvC counterpart, shouldn’t her backdash make them whiff their low attacks since that she’s automatically airborne? It would be a win-win situation : Time the pushblock correctly and you push them out or mis-time and make them whiff because of your backdash.
Yeah, I might try this assist too. I’m really trying to recreate the Strider/Doom rushdown with Zero’s Sougenmu Hyper and Morrigan’s Astral Vision Hyper so getting free meter with that assist might not be a bad idea.
Yeah, I’m aware of that but I don’t think it will bother Zero too much since he doesn’t use any special moves during his ground bnbs. His normals last for so long that I’m sure he’ll be able to extend some combos or at least get a little more damage in with Soul Fist assist. Only thing that might be tricky now is the fact that I won’t be able to do Hienkyaku (teleport) and calling Morrigan assist at the same time anymore. In TvC, it was great for mixups during blockstrings, but in MvC3, I don’t know if it’s gonna work out. Hopefully it’s gonna be a question of timing adjustment.
Backdash, ground dash, and air dash are the same as in tvc. She has parabolic dashes in this game though like in mvc2 and an airdash during flight mode.
Edit: I don’t think that your backdash method would work well against a trijumper with a lockdown assist at hand.
Double edit: Well, it could work depending on how tight your opponent’s pressure is.
I wouldn’t expect them to whiff outright, but it would fuck with anyone relying on some ground pressure strings since you’ll still be in the air. (I thought Morrigan made a good pick against Zero in TvC partly because of this very reason.) Probably wouldn’t help for much else though.
Strongly considering Morrigan over Viper for Team Dormammaries. It doesn’t seem like keepaway characters can build a lot of meter unless the opponent keeps eating full-screen specials. I’m not sure though, that’s why I think Dark Harmonizer will benefit both Dorm and Trish. Lord fucking knows I’m going to be too tempted to pull the trigger on Floating Bomb and Round Harvest whenever I can; gonna have to train myself not to do that haha. I’d substitute Shadow Blade for Trish’s AA trap. That would leave me without an anti-air assist though because I was going to use Trish on point. Could maybe run Dormammu with his Purification assist.
Also helps Morrigan’s character is groovy as fuck, and her launcher is too sick. DAT SPEAR/SPIKE/RAPE-BLADE.
Probably, I see no reason why she wouldn’t. And watching some of those CES vids has me thinking shadow blade is gonna be brutally good, which should work out fine for me since I need a good AA and get of me assist anyway. With that said, how does morrigan work on her own? I have never been attracted to her so I don’t really know what kinda character she is. I mean her move list looks generic at first, but then she has an 8 way air dash, a command grab, that clone super(that should make for some interesting mixups) and the cool drill move. Has me thinking she is like a rushdown character, amirite?
She is a mixup monster, fast, highly mobile, has good fireballs, great normals, and all of her hypers are useful. She can lame people out by flying around with the aid of an assist if needed. She has a lot of potential.
Just read through the thread, you’ll find some impressions of those of us who have played her…
Edit: agree with d3v. Rape blade it is now.
Double edit: If you plan on using her, get used to being in the air A LOT.
Uh… I really doubt she’ll be able to Hyper while in Astral Vision. Strider couldn’t hyper during orbs in MvC2 and Zero could not hyper during Sougenmu in TvC, IIRC… and they are all similar special moves.
It’d be great if she could, but I really doubt it.
But she could do it in VSav, at least for some of them (yes on Finishing Shower, no on Darkness Illusion). EDIT: I should clarify that she could use any super while Astral Vision was active, but only certain ones actually received any kind of buff from it.
Worth checking if nobody’s gotten around to that yet. Heck, I’m pretty sure that Hsien-ko’s reveal trailer showed her using other hypers with her dark force active, and she couldn’t do that in VSav.
Kinda out of left field, since some folks have been adding the “meows” and “hi-yas” to Felicia and Lei-Lei’s themes, I suddenly wondered what Morgs theme would have sounded like if it had some seductive female moaning in the background.
Good question. Haven’t really seen it much these past 10 months. I wonder, with MvC3’s crazy OTG properties, if you can combo off it? Or would you land too far away from your opponent? Hmm…
