The Power of Chi! Official Iron Fist thread!

I really don’t think that his playstyle will be anything like Fei Long, being that they’re in two very different games.

“Rekka” character just means that some of their special moves are cancelable into certain other special moves, making a short chain. Fei long just does punch-punch-punch, but Iron Fist has ones with different effects like crumple and wallbounce.

Yeah I used those two assists. Don’t look too much into it though, I only picked those two characters because I knew how to use them already, so I’d have a back up if my Iron Fist got taken out. Insurance so I don’t have to get off the station. Regardless, I can tell you the experience I had with those assists:

Dark Hole - Not really that good for Iron Fist since it doesn’t help you get in, it only helps lock them down temporarily if you’re close but even then it’s risky because the assist doesn’t start up that quickly and you risk getting Dorm killed. Characters WILL be running away from Iron Fist because he can’t do anything else, so you need something to keep people still. I’ve never landed so many air throws in my life LOL.

Jam Session: I mainly used this on character entry to skank people with left rights. New character coming in > call Jam Session > wavedash a few times > air string. It was pretty hard to find good combos to use out of aerial hits so I didn’t get much there. Definitely need to get into training mode to figure those out.

Couple other things I should mention:
He has a wall jump, in case anyone didn’t know.
j.:l: is a nice instant overhead. Big characters are going to get raped by instant j:l: :m: :h:

bnb for my 2 day Iron Fist lol

:l::m::h: xx Dragon Tail > Lotus Whip > Dragon’s Touch > Chi > :s: > j.:m::m::h::s: > Dash > Crescent Heel > Dragon Palm xx Fist of Fury/“SPIRIT OF THE DRAGON AAAAAARRHHHH”

In the corner you can do the Wall of Kun Lun (Spelling?) after Dragon Palm and then follow up with any super including the level 3. I found myself comboing people near the corner a lot of the time, so he’ll probably have good wall carry if you wavedash a few times after the crumple stun.

were you able to combo well out of fists of fury in the corner, or was the recovery just a bit too slow?

Edit: Given what we have seen with using crescent heel more than once, I think the goto after otg will be :mk::hk: for the popup (well maybe)

also while I’m thinking of it, did you try doing :qcf::s: or :qcb::s: naked? I feel like its important, especially the latter

Hmm I remember resetting someone with a jab after Fists of Fury, since they flip out almost instantly. I kinda stopped using Fists of Fury in the corner though, because if got a combo into the corner, I would always add :qcf::s: and the wallbounce that move causes pops them too high to get full damage from Fists of Fury. I defaulted to Spirit of The Dragon.

I did actually, and they don’t work unless you cancel them from two rekkas.

Thanks man this really helped. I went over to the Vergil thread to check the assist out and yeah that seems like it’ll just fit in perfectly to my team. Yeah cool that you think about playing the same squad because the more I learned about Vergil,Fisto, and Hellboy I see more synergy work between the 3.

IronFist’s ability to build meter will be SO HUGE for GR coming in, and GR has two assist that could help Fisto get around zoning his hell spike which nulls projectiles and his wall bouncing long range assist. Then your tip on Vergil sweet full screen multi hit assist might mean I can use hell spire for OTG’s and cover then instead use Vergil’s assist for pressure in the cover and making the opponent block long enough to get in.

Iron Fist with all his up close tools looks like such a ridiculously strong character as a battery and backup to me not only because his extra meter gaining ability in combos but the fact he looks to have many reset opportunities which could lead to more damage and more meter.

I few right guesses and you could have a ton of meter with IF, his potential is very nice.

Is it difficult to hit confirm with Iron Fist!?

Cause that going to be a huge problem when characters are in the air, and he can launcher people in the air.

Awesome and yet heartbreaking. Imo he kind of needs flying kick for an approach vector :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a sad monkey though, all my theories are falling apart!

My last hope for prophet status is FoF>dragonrage (or chi power) free combo if you haven’t already used your bounce ><

Not at all. I kept going for air throws but it’s pretty easy to confirm if you hit someone with an air series.

You can’t launch airborne opponents.

i don’t think fist will have as much difficulty with airborn opponents as ppl think. he’ll have several options for opponents at normal jump and super jump height. first will be airthrow, something that a lot of players don’t utilize often enough against super jumped opponents. as we all know, airthrows are difficult to tech on reaction if not impossible, considering the 7 frame escape window hasn’t changed, and normal throws in this game generally have a decent amount of range. it certainly looks like iron fist will be able to follow up on an airthrow, but only experimentation will tell. his second option will be to do a short aircombo, bring them back the normal jump height, and upon landing, do upkicks, which is jump cancellable at least on the first hit from what we know, and proceed with a combo. either that, or a rejump combo or another ground-to-air juggle…whichever works better. and his third option is obvious…spirit of the dragon. i really don’t suspect he’ll HAVE to use certain assists like jam session or hidden missiles. i don’t even think those assists will bring the most out of the character.

Gomu, have you tried to do an air loop after the jump cancellable command H?

Aww crap, no. I forgot he could even jump cancel that move o_O. I should of watched Max’s vids to refresh my memory before I went.

Thanks for all the info on Danny Gomu, so hyped to play him, his mix up potential just oozes awesomeness.

It’s ok, thank you for the reports

Rocket Raccoon looks like he’ll destroy iF.

Well we only need to get in once and IF is no slouch in the speed department, but yes, he will get FUCKED by Raccon. Raccoon doesn’t look like he does good chip as well, so that’s definitely good news for Iron Fist players. I’m thinking Strider’s Vajra teleport will the one of the best assists for IF, if not the best assist.

So with RR revealed do you think he could work well together with Iron Fist? Immediately I thought of using RR with Fist’s Dragon Kick assist.

The thing about Vajira assist is that while if it hits an enemy, it brings them to ground level, but it doesn’t keep them standing or lock them down on block. Hidden Missiles solves both of those problems.

I think so, I know for certain my day one team will be Fist/Raccoon/Strange.

I was thinking of Fist/RR/Doom (with my pre-RR team being Fist/Strange/Doom lol). I’m not sure if I want to have Iron Fist or Raccoon on point.

It’s really going to depend what Rocket Raccoon’s assists are, the same goes for Frank. Once we get this info, I’ll start formulating things…
