I was watching 2 guys playing tekken 6 the other day both using PS2 controllers and I asked my self 1 question…what made namco decide to include a controller port in the final build of tekken 5DR?After playing the game(tekken 6) for the 1st time (or any tekken for that matter) on arcade stick the answer was immediately obvious. The game is easier to control with the ps2 controller. But right then it brought about a thought…All future Arcade fighting games should include this option!
The same way diehard arcade enthusiasts don’t like using control pads is the same way control pad users have a hard time using arcade sticks due to the increased range of directional input and use of your entire arm as opposed to using just your thumbs for inputs.
Capcom and other companies planning on releasing future arcade games should consider this addition as it would increase player base.It would open the door to console users who want competition but don’t play at arcades due to being too used to console and even when trying to use sticks can never play at the level they do at home on console.Games like(future releases of) street fighter could really use this feature IMO.Flame me for not being arcade stick savy if you wish, but any serious thoughts about this and how it would effect the arcade scene as a whole are welcome. Even though I’m not all that great on arcade stick,I do respect the skills of those that are and wished I could play them at their level using my medium because for some of the players I’ve seen I do play at their level using my medium.I can Kara palm with yun,do dashing headbutt and aegis combos with Urien, LoV machine gun with Remy and so on using my medium and have been playing fighting games on console for most of my life so I’m not just some newb on a rant here.I just wish us console users had a way to get comp without having to make our own by training our wack friends how to play and networking our asses off just to find it is all.
(feel free to kill this thread if it exist elsewhere but some1 plz send me a message directing me to where a thread like this exist on here so I can read thru it.)
Umm… I’m pretty sure the reason arcades aren’t alive anymore isn’t because people don’t want to learn stick.
fuck, and remember when it was the other way around
I though this the first time I saw the tekken 5 cabinet at the local arcade.
The future of arcade games is space. I mean come on who wouldn’t want to go into space and well you might as well play some arcade games while you’re up there…
In the future, arcade games will be played using will alone and Sirlin will be the best followed by UltraDavid.
The future of arcade gaming is in your console already.
“arcades are dead” threads seem to be popular when theres better things to be posting about
David vs. David. balanced!
Nah, the David on P2 side will always be better.
Whoa whoa whoa…You mean you have to use your hands? That’s like a baby’s toy.
What movie is that from?
Back to the Future II. Marty plays the old western shooter in the Cafe 80’s after the two kids plug it in. They then laugh at him for being good at it. That’s gonna be all of us one day you know. Tellin stories to our grand kids about how we used to have sticks and buttons on our games while they plug their games right into their skulls or some shit.
i think the point of goin to an arcade is to use a stick, its not realy that difficult but thats just me.
If this were true, the controller port would never have made it to the Tekken 5DR cabinet. Thanks for the responses(even the funny ones[plugin games into our skulls?the matrix will have us]) but I was speaking in terms of the new comp it would attract to the arcade scene do to the inclusion of the console crowd.
Yea console is great but even now as the arcade scene is a dying fad ppl still go in crowds to places like chinatown fair to play arcades and a good % of those players are very good at the games they’re playing.
Until consoles make lagless online for fighting games(a hopeless wet dream at this time) ppl who play console will be plagued by lack of decent comp unless we make our own, network for it or worse, spend the same amount of time we spent perfecting pad to perfect sticks.I don’t have that much on my hands. Also I’m tall(6’4) and I’m sick and tired of hunching over like I have spinabifida just to play sticks and to add insult to injury I can’t even perform at 100% due to change in medium.I still love the arcade scene but I feel its no longer defined by using sticks alone.Namco killed that notion by including the controller port.
The only reason non-japan T5 machines got controller ports is because Namco listened to the US scene/general community when they came up with it. There’s a lot of Tekken players that are quite vocal about being able to play on pad better, way more than SF/any other FG. So they gave them the option.
Frankly a good deal of practice will get rid of that blind spot for pad players because it’s a two-way street. Can’t count how many times I had to readjust to pad because I didn’t have a stick for a certain system or it wasn’t around.
IIRC those controller ports are easily broken too, and I know people have been pegged with sabotaging them, so there’s that as well.
arcades are dead because of poor business practices (the only arcades alive either know what they are doing or are in a really populated area and pay cheap rent)
There are only two hang-ups on having controller ports on all arcade games.
1: Cost. I may seem like a small thing, but when you multiply it with all the stands they need to make it’s a hefty chunk of change.
2: New games are commonly put in old stands. A new coat of paint, new sticker on the side, and your good to go.
If you would like the new games to continue to come out with controller ports. You need to push the point that it could help with sales of the game. (home version.)
all those lovely dick heads who like to jam their gum into the ports. I remember so many Time Crisis guns being busted by people jamming their gum into the the top of the gun slide, or worse holding the slide so it didn’t move. Uhg.
I can imagine this only translates to more issues for arcade owners who already have to watch out for people who swing on the sticks like stupid monkeys.
Ur right it is a two way street. The only this is stick users have 1 option pad users don’t.Stick users can invest in a arcade stick of their choice to use for the console version of the game they’re playing so it’ll feel like the arcade at home.
Pad users aren’t offered this option. Its either learn sticks or don’t play at the arcade and be compless.I only say the ports should be included in all future fighting games to level the playing field so that regardless of ur preference, the option is there. As far as dipshits who mess up ports with gum and such,I feel sorry for the serious pad users who enjoy the arcade scene that have to deal with that as I’ve never come across that before.
As far as cost is concerned,I’m sure that all future arcade tekken titles will include the ports,if Namco can afford it can’t see y Capcom can’t.
Arcades are dead for the following reasons…
- Not enough hot Japanese babes
- No worldwide internet network to let people play across countries
- Same as reason 1
- Not enough threads on SRK about why arcades are dead
- ???
- Profit!
