Most of the covid deaths in NYS are older people from my understanding, so if Cuomo is falsifying that info, their numbers are even worse than what they let on.

Where do the corporate press outlets get their covid numbers from, the CDC? I think believing the numbers are inflated is kind of wild, but if you don’t trust a network like CNN, I can see how you’d come to that conclusion. :man_shrugging:

To be fair, I think we understood a lot less about Covid when Trump said that. Fauci at one point said wearing masks was pointless too, so… :man_shrugging:

They don’t trust the CDC either, especially since Fauci has now said he’s liberated working under Biden as opposed to Trump.

Yeah, that was his biggest flub.

If anything, I’d expect the numbers to be bigger than we think given people without symptoms or folks that don’t get tested.

That is how science works.

People going back to that a year later (not saying you are, just generally speaking) is a result of a political party saying science is bad for years and brainwashed people eating it up.

I agree with you, but if we’re doling out blame, and I think we definitely should, then there are a lot of people/organizations to blame for various reasons.

As for political parties, each party prefers the “science” that justifies their worldview. It’s not like that’s exclusive to one or the other.

:sob: REKT. :sob:

Provided for context, and also - I bust my buddy’s balls for their fashion choices on the regular (and they use mine as a speedbag in reciprocation). So I’m not telling tales out of school here, but again - context.

I don’t worry about people I don’t know. So that’s what I was hoping to impart.

Isn’t that ass clown Canadian?

Please be Canadian.

Nothing personal Canada, but. . . do not want.

Agree, but those interview recordings of Trump illustrate he had solid intel at the beginning of the pandemic, and chose to lie.

While Fauci was at least attempting to relieve some of the pressure on the supply system. Although I do wish he would have at least considered advocating for improvised masks for lack of PPE at the time.

The Trump peeps I work with were insufferable because of this “deception”, because cognitive dissonance prevents them from parsing the bullshXt from their beloved leader. Nothing worse than listening to grown ass men go on about how “They want to punch that little weasel in the face.” :unamused:

I continue to be disappointed at how America has handled this mess. Leadership, media, culture - endless disappointment.

To be faaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiir…to be fairs, Trump later came out and said he knew it was really dangerous at the time and chose to downplay it anyway.

“To be faaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrr…” I love that show xD

Anyway, yeah, he should absolutely get some of the blame for how things went, but some of the same people/organizations would have been in charge, so you have to wonder how different some aspects of the response would have even been without Trump around.

You’re correct in saying we knew a lot less back then. But Trump went on record with Woodward saying that he intentionally downplayed the severity of the virus. He admitted to lying to the entire country. There was a report somewhere I read recently where Trump was heard saying something about “this fucking virus” and it being the end of his presidency. The irony is that had he been honest about it up front and led us through a tough situation beyond anyone’s control, he could have come out a hero. Instead, it was a political inconvenience for Trump rather than a serious pandemic and he lied and failed to lead us through it the best way he could given his position of power.

As for Cuomo, the numbers seem more like a statistical choice to categorize the nursing home deaths as hospital deaths, emphasizing the place of their passing. I don’t see that as nearly a big of issue as Cuomo ordering sick covid patients back to the nursing homes so they can infect even more at-risk people. That seems almost criminal, and he should be held accountable for that. He claims it was federal guidelines to do that, but he’s the man in charge of that city, and that feels like an irresponsible decision.

I know there were many factors at play- especially overflowing hospitals. So his motive to order that action may have been in good faith, I don’t know. Either way, it seems there were political motives behind a lot of the decision making in regards to covid response across the board. And that’s bullshit. Everyone should have been more transparent about the fact the we know that this disease is lethal to those at-risk groups, and as a country we should have promoted and encouraged the measures to help mitigate the spread. Instead we just have finger pointing.

The covid mess a good example of what happens when politics becomes more important than politicians actually doing what they were elected to do and favoring political football over their jobs.

But see fauci changed as things got worse

Trump quadruple downed on covid going away like some miracle even when he knew how dangerous it was.

What we see Biden doing now is probably what a democrat leader would have done last year

You place blame squarely on who was in charge and everything they did to make sure covid spread.

Hell just the fact he had no healthcare plan and no plans at all for the pandemic.

Trump did nothing

Biden doing more by opening enrollment into the aca and making sure those who lost their insurance can get covered

Fauci was somewhat gaming the system when he was initially saying ‘no masks’.

He wanted to keep the medical system from running out of the good masks, which were at the time in short supply, and didn’t think non-medical grade masks were going to be much help.

Supply caught up to demand on medical grade masks, and it turned out he just guessed badly on home made cloth masks. He probably doesn’t feel too bad about it because he was just doing what he could with the info available at the time.

Also important to note that at the time Fauci made those statements, there was no or inconclusive evidence of asymptomatic spread. It was a gamble that Fauci made with that statement that ended up not paying off, but it was understandable why he made it: health care workers absolutely needed the limited supply when demand suddenly surged. Telling the general public to go out and wear masks when supply was limited would have been pretty bad for health care workers. Consider this especially when people foolishly panic bought toilet paper and paper towels for no particular reason.

Now, unfortunately, talking heads and right wing media are still using Fauci’s words to vilify or quote him out of context for whatever reason. There’s a huge difference on Fauci making a mistake and then changing his stance later on as more information comes to light on a novel virus versus whatever the hell the Trump administration did (or rather didn’t do) for an entire year. Every time I see people try to put blame on Fauci like it’s the same as the Trump administration’s failings, it’s eye roll inducing.

Edit: Also at the time, it wasn’t known if COVID-19 was airborne. Initially, it was thought larger droplets that can linger in the air for a few seconds but then fall to the ground was the primary way for the virus spreading, hence the “six feet apart” rule. As we’ve learned more about the virus, we learned that aerosols could spread it too, making masks imperative in helping to slow the spread.

Joy to my ears:

Bitch McConnell calls Greene a “a cancer for the Republican Party” and Greene claps back saying “the real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully”, further clarifying how much of a nutcase she is.

The Republican Civil War can’t happen soon enough.
