Psx was awesome. My 3rd console after super nintendo. I didn’t play sega really, so i was happy playstation had the snes layOut. Oh man alpha 2 gold, alpha 3, rival schools, msh, wwf warzone, tony hawk, so much to love.
I remember when I beat both him and Emerald Weapon, but I never had the Guidebook to give that old man. This was pre-Youtube “vids or it didn’t happen” era and I didn’t have any gaming mags at the time so I was genuinely having a nerdgasm back then thinking I still had another sidequest in here. I thought that I might end up fighting that other Weapon that got his head blown’d off in Junon, recruit Johnny as a playable character or fight undead Aerith fused with Proud Clod or some shit lol.
My favorite location was the Sunken Sub, the fight with the Turks, Yuffie’s broken Conformer, the only place to get 255 stats across the board, I don’t know, that place felt so wrong it was good, plus Emerald Weapon was lurking near that bitch lol. I fought the OG snapbacker, Ghost Ship. I got pissed when he tossed someone out, so I Morphed his ass. Help message said “Changed into Guidebook.” …

Useless Fact:
My old playstation… the playstation 1… is sitting right on top of my PS3 right now. And, it has CVS Pro in it for some reason. sigh
I’m fixing to simply buy a Dreamcast so that I can get my hands on the first CVS game… no missing frames, no dumbass loading times and better presentation - then I might just cause a scene where people can play KOF XIII, SFxT, 3S, CVS, and CVS2 willy-nilly!

Where I live, you can find a CVS machine in pretty much every place that has a small arcade. Doesn’t matter if it’s working, out of order or missing a jab (it’s always the jab button). MY community college had one at some point. I don’t understand why we have so many in the NOVA area.
Is that true…? If I lived in your area, I’d probably be playing at that arcade on a daily basis. Of course, emulators are helpful - for some odd reason, CVS games are extremely hard to get a hold to, in spite of how popular they actually are. Things were fun when the first CVS showed up…
CVS Pro for PSX was a respectable port. The DC version was visually stunning in those days though.
currently playing the legend of dragoon. this was the game that got me hooked on rpgs. i think i’m gonna jump between this, and chrono cross for a while
I still have my old PSX, sadly it’s the only console I have right now. But I love it. PSX brought me hours of RPG,Fighting,Horror and Action based bliss. It still does, though no longer in the binge gaming way it used to. I’ll play a few hours here and there but not much more.

Officially he died. Hwang is one of the mysteries, though. No story reason that I can think of, he was just gone.
If you can, mod a your PSX. I have a modded one which ironically meant that I could not play a retail copy of Legend of Dragoon that I bought. Had to pirate the game to play it and had to wait further to buy a PS2 to be able to play my store bought copy. Endless lols.
Some of the random japs psx game are gold. I firmly stand behind Panzer Bandit since the game has resets, near infinites and you can combo air combo enemies out of the screen.
I just remember being blown at all the good japanese games (rpgs) on this system. I think the genre fell hard during the ps2 and it is non-existent on the current genre. I mean, Legend of Dragoon was the shit.
JRPG’s aren’t a genre that ages well I think, just in general.
WIth jrpgs the saying, "They don’t make them like they used to " applies strongly to the whole genre. Without a doubt the cream of the crop were on the ps1. I think in the last ten years (aside from Bethesda games) mmo’s and fps have dominated the market so hard they became a niche genre again.
I mean, I don’t know what happened. But, for example, imagine a current gen secret of mana of FF tactics. We would all buy that, and it would probably be multiplayer.
Oh damn, imagine a 5v5 FF tactics game where you could play ranked matches with 10 people. mmm, fun
