I can’t believe I never saw this thread. This is like my favorite genre.
The Wii has so many amazing platformers that I’ve been playing lately but what is the deal with the motion controls? They’re so needless, they’re annoying and they prevent you from using a classic controller.
Let’s do the rundown!
Spinning in Galaxy - After a while it just becomes annoying, remember how we attacked on N64? That was nice.
Shaking and aiming in Wario Land Shake it - the aiming made me want to scream, it is so easy to mess up and in sequences where you need to shoot out of a cannons quickly and with percision it is downright infuriating
Spinning in NSMBWii - Proven needless because NSMBU maps it just fine without motions
Blowing/rolling in DKCR - used a cheat code to make the game playable, I found that beyond basic playing the shake to roll thing was simply inexcusable
Charging up a move/breaking free/using some Ultras in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland - has a cheat code for classic controller, wasn’t too bad because a lot of things let you rock the dpad old school Kirby style but guard was B on a wii remote flipped sideways and that’s just too shitty.
Also I recently played Wario Land 4 again, will he ever again be so excellent?
I already beat it.

Heh that Freedom Planet looks like Treasure made a Sonic game.
I necroed the thread because, well there are simply too many quality games in the genre to clutter the VGG thread with, and I wanted to bring more attention to 1001 Spikes, you guys seriously need to try it, really satisfying, forces you to be very cautious and on the look out. It’s basically a 2D Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom simulator, or very much what a side scrolling Dark Souls would be like minus the combat.
Freedom Planet looks a lot like Sonic with a healthy dose of Alien Soldier and a pinch of Rocket Knight Adventures.
Anyone have Cloudbuilt? been keeping tabs on it since it was on Steam Greenlight 2 years ago, now I’m just waiting for a sale lol.
Freedom Planet is a great game. It’s not too much of a challenge though and the characters are certainly intended for a niche audience.
If you need a challenge you know which game to buy lol. Speaking of which apparently 4-3 is destroying GAF niggas be losing 100+ lives on that level alone

Wooo died 109 times. But there is a 1UP at the very beginning of the stage so I only lost like ~40 lives lol

I downloaded the new Volgarr patch and it broke my game… So I tweeted Kris the error dump and I got to email the head programmer so we could figure out wtf went wrong in case it happened to somebody else. My patch must have gotten corrupted at some point during the d/l so its back up and running
but NOW 1001 Spikes is getting flagged by my antivirus as a Trojan and stealing my .exe from me :mad:
Kero Blaster looks sexy, but my next purchase will be Shovel Knight :tup:
1001 Spikes will be getting a patch on all systems soon I hope.
This game looks absolutely amazing. This is day one once it hits Steam
^Shame it’s not coming to PS4 initially. I’ll be patient though. I can see this coming one day and probably on the Vita too since the developers switched to Unity.
Btw guys tomorrow buy Shovel Knight. It’s absolutely amazing. It might be the pinnacle of the NES style platformer. This is not like most of the platformers that come out every other week. This is Super Meat Boy/FEZ/NSMB/Rayman Origins level of good. Possibly even better. I’m not even pass the second level and it’s already a GOTY contender. Good luck Destiny.
