I was wrong and you were right lol, you can neutral stand tech the pass-through mix-ups and jab X-23 out of it, that goes for my variant too.
However, you can solve this by doing doing db+M. You’ll do the cr.M, but if they jab on wake-up, you block it 'cause you’re holding down back. If they’re going for a throw, then…
I currently run Vergil/X23/Amaterasu and the THC is only really useful if you’ve failed to have enough meter to Dirt Nap the incoming anchor. That said X23’s rage trigger ends more than early enough to set up a few mix-ups during Okami Shuffle. If Okami Shuffle hits at any point, X23 is perfectly capable of OTG/relaunching with X-Factor and killing the character.
It’s a very inefficient way of killing a character expecially if it’s not the anchor on a team, because you end up with no resources on the incoming character most of the time. It is reliable though, and can effectively get you 1 kill if that’s all you need.
X-23/Vergil/Ammy, Vergil/X-23/Ammy, actually any order of that would be very strong. You just want to decide who you want to abuse x-factor, and what assist you like on your front person. I can tell you right now that X-23 gets extensions from both rapid slash and cold star. And they’re good zoning and mixup tools. Vergil also likes cold star for getting close/teleport stuff/possibly extending combos?, and absolutely loves an otg, of which X-23 can provide. And…Ammy I like everywhere, though she’s the only one who seems least suited to front with those assists (I can’t think of an amazing way to extend combos beyond ammy solo stuff, and those assists don’t augment her approach game as much as others).
if anyone is having trouble landing a crescent scythe after a mirage H, you can continue the qcb to do a full 360 and the crescent scythe will come out.
Ya I actually select the team as X23/Vergil/Ammy and normally hold the Vergil assist button to swap the order ( I like Laura front and center at character select ), but it is nice to be able to just use X23 on point in a few of the matches where she’s the better choice.
With X23 on point you can DHC into Vergil’s sword loops off either of her Hypers, although I find it easier off of Weapon X Prime. OTG Ankle Slice > Rapid Slash >WXP will hit provided the combo preceding it didn’t include Cold Star (scales the crap out of it). Also Rapid Slash is really easy to confirm off of from pretty much anywhere.
Ammy is pretty much an assist/lvl 3 x-factor character. If everything goes to hell, than I like her to slow the game down and try to salvage things. It works well most of the time. Oh and yes she can extend for Vergil. Vergil can call Cold Star off any hard knockdown, OTG the opponent into it, teleport back down, and Round Trip while they’re still stuck in Cold Star which obviously leads into sword loop at that point. Timing is really strict though and I’m not sure it’s 100% reliable.
Admittedly the team is made of paper, and when I originally started playing it I saw that as a big problem. That was until my local playgroup started reliably killing the entire cast in one combo (hooray Zero!). So now I’d rather just play characters that I like and have synergy.
My thoughts exactly. Health values don’t matter to me when the majority of combos either almost kill any character, or they ca kill every character. 700ks and 1mill combos kinda mean the majority of the cast can withstand the same amount.
I use a very similar setup (kinda) of Nemesis/X-23/Ammy. There the order is much less fluid. Nemesis builds meter, X-23 abuses that use of meter, and my Ammy’s shite, but they don’t have to know that, because lvl3 X-factor is the great equalizer.
I found that with X-23 second, a lot of people with their comeback chars will set themselves up for a free Weapon X Prime, like the Akuma player’s itchy Gohadoken finger. Or the spencer who arms. The fact that you can DHC either direction into extension from that (slowmode off a raw WXP can lead to a lot of damage, experiement around), is why I kinda like your default order of Vergil/X-23/Ammy better then the others.
And what matchups are X-23 a lot better suited for? I actually never really looked into how her matchups are, they all seem pretty even to me, even Doom. Now I’m probably an idiot, or haven’t analyzed it, and my team can work with X-23 in front, so, who exactly is she built to kill?
In all honesty the only character I always swap the order against is Vergil. I hate the Vergil mirror and on top of that I actually like X-23 against him. A lot of stuff that he does is extremely unsafe and with X-23 it’s very easy to punish him for it because she is so fast. Just don’t get hit by Helm Splitter 'cause she’s guaranteed dead against a good Vergil.
Other than that though you’re right my default team is that way for a reason. I do occasionally swap X-23 to the front depending on the outcome of the first game in a set. That’s mostly because she’s by far my best character too. So if Vergil is getting blown up with nothing to do, then I’d rather match my best character with theirs. The team is nice enough to offer the option without really sacrificing anything.
It also makes sense because either Vergil or X-23 second is more prone to abuse the meter. Dirt Nap’s for incoming mostly, so it’s good if you’ve got the momentum. I could totally see that as a good idea, swapping out the momentum-based meter abuse for more chances to open up (Vergil’s swords is kind-of a good way to abuse meter if you’re behind), perhaps to make a comeback with Vergil.
I’ve been messing with this team as a secondary/fun team now that EVO has passed. If you find anything interesting please post it! Thanks for the guide everyone who worked on it, and special thanks to Luis1luis1 for helping me in chat. Keep up the good work, I plan to check back here frequently!
Hey everyone, I’m sorry if this has been posted somewhere in here already, but is there any way to convert off of super jump height? I swear I’ve heard it mentioned that it’s very difficult, but possible, though through testing I can’t find a single way to convert that. Thanks in advance!
Also, from LintLikr01. Off of a front throw at SJ height, use a TA L to get down to the ground in time to OTG into super (haven’t bothered to see if you can call an assist, though it looked like it might be possible.)
On my SJ conversion, towards the corner isn’t very bad at all. Midscreen takes a fair bit of practice tho. TA M midscreen is very spacing specific since there is a small space where it will push the character with you rather than pass through.
On the practicality side, most of the time you see this you will be in the corner, anyways and it OS into the throw since the first hit is a SJ forward H. I have pulled it off in matches before, it’s just that you hardly ever see this happening.
I think I’ve possibly made X-23’s tech-roll chasing stuff near air-tight: Do a wall carry combo into Ankle Slice OTG+Sentinel Drones, then wavedash 3 times and cr.M.
Sent Drones hits meaty as they’re waking up. It seems like they must do an invincible hyper to get out, otherwise they must take the mix-up, no matter which way they tech off the floor, be it neutral, forward or backward. Mashing on DPs doesn’t work, mashing on lights doesn’t work, jumping doesn’t work, wake-up throws doesn’t work, can’t even XFC for some reason, the reversal message shows up but X-23 hits me before the XFC comes out. The only thing I’ve gotten to work against it so far is reversal Bionic Arm, but the timing is very tight and Sent leaves as Bionic Arm comes out, so that means only X-23’ll get hit.
I first heard about using metronomes for fighting games a few years ago when it was suggested for one frame links in SF4, but it never really caught on and I forgot all about it until recently. Using that site to time my button presses (I find around the 240ish mark to be perfect) has almost instantly perfected my plink dashing and has been a great help in ensuring I don’t mess up my tech roll mixups by getting random standing Hs at the end of my dashes.
Anyone want to see something hilarious? On VGBootCamp’s Twitchtv page, this should be the link http://www.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp/b/326255452, on the recent weekly tournament, starting at around 1:11:30, the two commentators get into a huge argument about X-23 vs. Wolvy. If you want a good laugh, I couldn’t stop guffawing after a while. Normally I’m a fan of the tourney because I like Meep and Huoshen, but this time this proved an added bonus.
