I use Bandicam. Fraps does essentially the same, but I seem to recall that the free version was more limited. I take thousands of screenshots from a game and then copy maybe the best five ones to the steam upload folder.

Edit: check the specifics of the free version on each product’s site. I’ve just read in the wikipedia that Bandicam’s puts a watermark on screenshots, but that’s definitely not the case with the version I use; it only watermarks videos. Either the wikipedia is wrong about this or they gimped the free version after I downloaded it.

7970 is pretty godlike, it’s what I have on my rig. It’s a shame I didn’t bother fixing metro 2 and it pretty much played at 5 fps
