The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

So my friend was talking to me last night that his SSD is throwing an error: “No Operating System Found” or something like that on boot. It’s only 9 months old.

I told him I would take a look at it. After some cursory googling this morning it doesn’t look good, I’m hoping I can mount it on my backup PC and move the data to a spare HDD I have. You guys have any suggestions? Ever happen to anyone?

*He didn’t back anything up and it is the only drive in his machine. Dummy.

If you haven’t already you might want to ask him to make sure that he doesn’t have a USB stick attached when he’s booting. Oftentimes boot order is left as Optical>USB>Primary, and it catches a lot of people off guard.

Other than that, it’s pretty much do what you said. I’m not really familiar with many recovery techniques on SSDs. With old platter drives it was possible (but generally expensive if you were paying for it) to have the functioning components transferred if there was just an issue with the disk controller, so maybe something like that is still feasible? Sorry, I don’t know enough about them to say either way.

My processor came under but it played just fine. I excelled in all other requirement areas.

PC’s will always murder console equivalent games.

Unless the game is developed for PC first… Like Witcher.

Ran just fine for me, occasional frame drop if I had everything turned up to absolute max, including the resolution scaling, but dropped that to 90 instead of 100, barely noticed a different and it ran rock solid at 60fps. We’ll see how the finished product holds up.

Also stop playing on wireless, people.

Anybody pick up the torrent of the SFV beta? Curious if anybody else has it, and if there is a way to play online with it. Would be nice to be able to play it, when the beta goes down.

Gonna try the Tree of Saviour beta today.
Pretty excited!

Love those grindy gook games.

I have no choice. I’m not drilling a hole into my wall just to get a cable through. But my router and PC are like two feet apart with only a thin wall between them.

Anybody experience with using programs to limit bandwidth limits on programs?

SFV cracked beta still tries to download an update, however it’s possible to slow that download to like 50 bytes a second, so the only way to keep playing the beta, is to stop/slow the update.

I downloaded NetLimiter, but have never used it before, and can’t figure out how the fuck to use it to kill one individual programs bandwidth allocation.

I had the same issue, it ran a little slow at first, then I knocked down the resolution scaling to 90, and bam, ran perfectly.

edit: nvm, got SFV running properly. Needed to set bandwidth allocation to minimum 60k/s or it couldn’t even connect to Capcom’s servers, set it too high and it downloads the update too fast.

Where are the options to turn down graphics settings? I only see resolution.

Then get a powerline. It’s just as good as wired… unless your outlets suck.

There should be a setting says like Custom or some shit, go in there and there are a few graphics settings (aliasing, detail on effects and characters, etc).

12 inched from the modem/router still blows ass on a wireless connection. Get that shit hardwired you fuckin’ chumps.

What kind of a wall? I mean, if it’s just a thin wall, drill an inconspicuous hole.

I ran a 45 ft hdmi cable shoved under the drywall just so that I could use my TV with no extra latency for couch gaming/slingbox. 100% worth it.

I ain’t gonna drill shit into a wall when a security deposit hangs in the balance. Besides, I’d have to make the hole big enough to get the plug through. That’s bullshit. If I did it I’d want the hole to be only the same size as the wire only.

How decent are these power line things? Thinking about getting one of the PlayStation boxes for my sons room so he can remote play the ps4 in his bedroom.

I know you’re not going to want to do this either but you could pass the wire through a wire sized hole and put the plug on afterwards.

I’m sure you could find some hacker/builder/maker space in the city that would sell you a length of cat5/6 wire, some plugs and lend/rent you the proper tool. Plus show you how to do it.

You may even be able to plug up that hole before your LL notices for dat security deposit.

e: idk actually about lending you that tool but it looks like you could probably find one for ~20 bucks.

I hung a 75 lb TV in my apartment with 4 large bolt size holes. I was only supposed to have max 2 nail holes per wall. Before I moved out, I used a drywall patch kit. I got my whole deposit back.

Edit: Actually I lost $25 due to my doorframe pull-up bar tearing up the door frame. But eh.

It’s basically wireless speeds, but without the instability so gaming(fighting games for example) is great with it. I’ve had my multiport one hooked up to my pc and ps3 for a few years now since I use the same monitor.

divinity original sin enhanced edition is out.
For those who own the original version, you get EE for free.

PLAY IT NOW!

I don’t know what the fuck this is.
