The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

Yea, his reasons are… stupid.
I understand where he’s coming from, but one statement he makes is accurate. The rest is like, paranoia up the ass.

Granted, I can see why people will like the device. But for people to claim this is the next thing is rather pushing.

what is the next thing? without VR developments AR would take A LOT longer to get it right. even hololens is extremely flawed, the only place you actually see the image is in a small box in front of your face, so if your head is slightly off you won’t see anything, and the fabled Magic Leap isn’t even got to the stage of being a hmd.

people not having the imagination to see the developments of VR- ultra wide field of view, seeing your body inside of that world, sharing it with other players and being able to communicate with your whole body and face; just being able to communicate with head movements changes behaviour in gaming space which leads on to advancements in gameplay JUST head movements, imagine it with all the rest of it. I question your understanding in this technology, I don’t think you understand its capabilities at all

The Rift is a stepping stone much the same as a lot of other technology. It’s a piece to full-VR or whatever you would want to call it. Anyone know how they do, or are trying to do, eye tracking with the rift?

Anyone want to play games tonight?

No one knows. But it’s definitely it pushing the gaming industry forward.
Not to mention, said features you stated are things you can do without VR.

“B-But you see e-everything around like REAL TIME!!”

Do you think Books >>> Movies just because movies display things in real time were as book it’s simply words?
Failed immersion is either the player’s fault, or the dev’s fault for making a bad game. Hardware has nothing to do with it. And if you NEED that hardware for immersion, hey, I guess you’re the kind of guy who prefers watching something on screen than reading it on paper.

Bottom Line: There’s nothing that can be done, that can be brought up without VR.
You can experience the same type of game, and “enjoy it” just as much, even without VR. VR isn’t providing anything new within the gaming experience.

“B-BUT IMMERSION!!”

Once again, dev or players fault, not hardware.
Immersion has been created many, many times without VR, and VR helps in no way (unless the movie >>> book theory is holds That much water, then I guess it does).

You messed up the >>> the first time.

Having a headset that moves a camera in the virtual world based on input that is similar to what a person actually uses to look around rather than joysticks or a mouse is a big step.

you know what, I was going to write near enough an essay but there’s no point for that, its long for nothing.

just because you’re stuck thinking in two dimensions it doesn’t mean you’re not using many other dimensions in your life. our bodies aren’t built to sit down for hours and hours, as soon as you stand up there’s biological health benefits activated (you’re not supposed to sit down for more than half an hour!) our bodies are built to move about and do things, this is how bad it is, if we sit back our brain tells us to go to sleep; you might not be tired at all but you will tell your body to do things from different postures, hell even certain colours has effects on us but on a 2D monitor games have to use all kinds of colours to keep the player interested. being able to move about and react to certain things in a natural way increases our biological intelligence, sitting playing a game calcifies us to a certain extent.

if monitor games are so great then why do Pilots use VR? why do Doctors use VR? why do car manufacturers use VR? why are architects extremely happy after using VR? its because there are crazy amounts of depths from a realistic perspective that professionals use everyday. these crazy amounts of depths could be tapped into and practised by people in the future making their awareness super heightened. schools allow kids to play minecraft because the nature of the game is highly educational, what kind of educational merit will kids have if they have full control of their body in relation to the spaces created in minecraft? just having a large wall next to you changes your consciousness, VR is a consciousness exercising machine, you can actually monitor your mind and body in relation to not only space but also movements in time.

super intelligent people in the past thought fucking writing was a fad, super intelligent people in the past thought photography was a fad, film; thats because they are super intelligent in their own little world. people in the past (what 100 years ago?) didn’t even know germs exists, humans are incredibly stupid they underestimate the nature of the world and consciousness because they know nearly nothing about the relationship between the mind and body and the spaces around us. and we have these internet couch scientists, no intellectual imagination- no effort to even combine potentialities to come up with anything close to an idea, promoting cynicism.

oooh look! gears of war 4? fuck yeah! I hope it has a good writer

The only thing I found weird when I used Rift, was that I needed a fucking chair that could spin around while I played. Couldn’t imagine trying to use it on a couch or stationary chair.

I haven’t tried at all but the ‘final rift’ is going to need to be a lot more than a headset I imagine.

I can’t wait to see where this goes.

I might snag that BL bundle for just the DLC and maybe gift it too a friend as well.

lol i really dunno what it is you’re expecting. It’s basically a VR helmet. You still control shit with your hands, but you look with your eyes and head, not a controller. It’s just…natural. Wanna look behind you at any point in time? Just do so. Wanna peek around a corner? Go right ahead.

My favourite part: it works well with people who have to wear glasses.

I meant the whole VR shebang… like sci-fi shit. Hahaha I took the conversation a bit too far.

How well does eye-tracking work?

Happy to hear about the glasses thing.

no clue how the eye-tracking works. I only got to fuck with it for a bit, and sadly wanted to get laid more at the time (my gf was cosplaying as Harley Quinn at the time), and what I got to fuck with was a Roller Coaster sim, and some horror game on rails type of scary demo. Didn’t even have controllers lol.

no you didn’t take the convo too far its quickly becoming sci fi shit. VR arcades are being made as we speak and loads of developers are everyday creating games and finding new ideas of how people can best interact with it, sitting, standing, walking. loads of inventions are not only being made but also being fined tuned to the max because of VR. its incredible how many developments are being made because of it. theres atleast half a dozen companies who have made lots of progress with eye tracking, the latest company openly delving in eye tracking is google. theres even a kick starter for a hmd that already has eye tracking which samsung currently invested in https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fove/fove-the-worlds-first-eye-tracking-virtual-reality eye tracking has a LOT more benefits than most people are likely to imagine as well.

theres also a ultra wide field of view hmd thats the size of goggles already (its very expensive though). the only reason The Rift and Vive will have certain limitations is due to the fact they would cost to much to sell, everything is becoming rapidly better and cheaper

Apparently we have Iron Galaxy to blame for the Arkham Knight port?

I’m not even sure where the confusion came from, I’ve heard three different answers as to who ported Arkham Knight.

Someone in the general thread said IG got boned with a shitty deadline. Like they didn’t get the devkit until a few months before release. I’ll see if it’s on the most recent 2 pages lol

this is the post I was thinking of:

It’s (of course) unsourced so make of it what you will.

I would believe that, and pushing back the date probably wasn’t an option the publisher gave them.

Weren’t they showing off the PC version last year anyway?

Showing the game off on a PC isn’t the same as showing off a PC version. It’s just a dev build.

This guy.
It was apparently on Xbox indies first. But this one has more features/characters.

& nobody looked at those fuckin indie games ever, except me, so I could play mahjong online against japanese people. & laugh at the schoolgirl Tetris games created for one type of person, yup, EMP | Triforce professional lotion glover. due to all the sales I came across Steam’s Mahjong schoolgirls games, that do not even have online play. Those assholes aren’t on the ball of an Indie, or ARIKA over here making those Tetris things with stories taking those animoeblobs on trips to France.

& some dudes liked Avatar Fighter Online also on there. Where in that game, I liked cancelling a chain combo, into a sweep and that sweep into a Blanka ball. That hit them too. “OTG” That game needs a steam release. and a Part 2 ]Sequel : Super Turbo Edition.
