I’ve been a long time fan. I had a GB of their PC 133 waaaaaay back in the day and I’ve never looked back. Currently have 16 GB of this installed. It’s not underclocked right now, but I’ve done it in the past and got the CAS latency down to 7 @ 1600 clock speed, fully stable. I’m scared of this RAM. In a bit I’m about to get some virtual machines going and see what I can do with it before it gets too outdated.
Oh, I see. Yeah my RAM kits are exactly the same. Both are the came company, Corsair, and even the same type. So that’s probably why I don’t have any issues with it.
yeah mine are exactly the same except for the memory capacity. Figured one kit being 4GB and the other being 8GB won’t matter since they are exactly the same brand and frequency.
i actually have an AMD processor (6core, kinda old now), and nvidia card, been working like butter. first time i went with AMD processor, no complaints.
back in the day when i used to travel for SF, UCLA was hosting a pretty big tournament and there was this guy who offered to house our crew. he was a serious gamer obviously, i thought he was just pirating A LOT of stuff and was scared, but i dont know, maybe he was part of the ANONYMOUS CREW, nawmean? funny thing is i remember asking him what that switch was on his tower because i had never seen it before and it had a double check mechanism on it so you couldnt accidentally hit it and kill your system.
He was definitely within his reason to be paranoid. Many security researchers and IT people don’t bring their systems into the US with them because due to the DMCA they could be arrested for bullshit that is perfectly legal within their country and not to mention absolutely required to perform their job duties.
So, remotely-triggered thermite charges and dead-man switches may sound like science fiction to you, but to people in the security research field they are a necessity. Or at least that which they represent is. Hopefully, they will remain a far-fetched, nuclear option, the stuff of comic books and action flicks instead of an actual solution to a broken system that could land you in the same sort of trouble as Aaron Swartz.
We live in a world where being smart can be dangerous. Indeed, it’s been that way for a long time. We’re still fighting Galileo’s war, in which powerful people who are powerful because the happen to be in a position to credibly say that they are are able to dismiss the ingenious work of men trying to truly make the world a better place. The terms may have changed, but the reasons are always the same: power, corruption and greed.
I got up to that and by then I already knew the drill.
You have serious stuff in your possession if you’re using a goddamn incendiary for last-stand security.
So I want a cheap way to stream my pc to my TV. Hard wired is not an option, and my old laptop only has vga out (no way to get sound). I’ve read raspberry pi have too weak a processor to be a client for streaming.
My phone (s5) seems to stream ok with limelight, but I’m going to test it out with some games tonight before I go and buy a micro usb to hdmi converter.
The dream would be a cheap steam machine to just use as a client, but who knows when that will come out at this point, or if the price will be reasonable.
She’s coming up nicely! Only thing I’m missing are the 3 pin connectors for the fans and then I’ll try to take a picture with something else than a really shitty phone camera. With the UV lights on and off.
Thanks! I’m really proud of how she turned out. I already can’t wait to start playing around with rigid acrylic tubes to replace the floppy liquid cooling tubes.
