I need to get a new mouse.

Can anybody suggest me a good Logitech mouse for gaming + comfort? I’m tryna keep the price range below 79, don’t really feel like getting a mouse with a 32-bit processor inside :wtf:

Well at the 79 price point you got the Proteus Core (the g502). This thing is fucking fantastic. And it’s currently on sale for $59.99

Man you missed some really good black Friday deals on logitech mouses…

Also, crossplay on sf5 worth ps4 is awesome. It means there will actually be people playing.

There were some really good prices on the high end Logitech mice. Too bad my g400 is durable as fuck and will probably never break, I’ve got no real reason to upgrade.

Having owned a few Logitech mouses, I can confidently say the G700 I’m currently using is by far the best one they’ve ever made super comfy, super customizable DPI settings, GDLK scroll wheel, side buttons are smartly designed without being too fancy and in the way like other mouses that go crazy with the hotkeys. Also can be used wired or wireless, charges through PC, decent battery life.

I might pick up that Proteus.

…

I also have another question for those well-versed in operating systems.

Which OS would be better suited for an old Dell laptop (Inspiron n5010 I believe), FreeBSD or a non-enterprise version of Linux? One of my spare laptops crapped out during a Windows update, so I’m thinking about getting a cheap 500GB notebook HDD and installing a non-Windows OS on it.

I hear generalizations that Linux has broader hardware support, but is vulnerable (specifically for the non-enterprise versions). While FreeBSD is made up of a tighter-knit dev community, which in turn makes for more secure + stable releases but limited hardware support. What’s the truth?

tis my baby right here

None and both. Linux is not anymore vulnerable than any other OS, but it has much more safe and sane default features upon install. Example: Windows automatically makes you an Administrator and opens up a ton of unnecessary ports and shit for no reason whatsoever, and they almost always get exploits that can be leveraged against them. Linux doesn’t. You must create a separate administrator account that you shouldn’t even touch unless you’re doing some major system maintenance. Windows doesn’t even require a password for the admin account. OSX and Free BSD (which is Unix derived just like Linux is) are similar to Linux in terms of default security.

OpenBSD is somewhat of a ā€œfringeā€ OS (If I offend anyone with that statement, I’m truly sorry). The community is much smaller and therefore much less prone to stupid shit happening that can become disruptive when it affects your favorite Linux distro. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same. The differences beyond that are probably too minor to mention here and are likely to not even affect you. One difference I will mention is that the popularity and broad base of Linux will probably result in much more software being available to you than on BSD, but this too is probably only a minor problem for your concerns. On the hardware front, yes OpenBSD supports less hardware ā€œout-of-the-boxā€ than Linux, but it’s probably negligible and only pertaining to some really specific hardware that is either 1. really old or 2. really new. Hardware like what’s found on a laptop is usually popular enough to have a well-established driver set within the OS.

So it basically comes down to your personal preference. I personally like Linux because it’s more popular and I got into it before I even know what BSD was. I’m thinking of running BSD on my home security DVR though, mostly because the patch and update releases are more stable. Pick a distro and find out what the community is like. I personally like Slackware, though most beginners shy away from it since it can be a bit daunting at first and is very easy to break since it is bare Linux without much ā€œunder the hoodā€ so to speak that gets in the way of the true Linux experience. That makes it ideal for anyone who wishes to learn Linux. If you want an OS to play on, use Ubuntu. If you want to learn Linux, use Slackware.

Here’s a good Slackware install guide.
Also, LinuxQuestions.org Last time I had a problem with Slack, Pat Volkerding, the maintainer of Slackware himself came to answer my question. Can’t get better help than that.

I’m think about buying the Walking Dead Season 2 as it’s $8.50

But I never played Season 1, so it would just be sitting there until Season 1 is on sale

So I was going to write this rant about how excellent Sleeping Dogs is with the glaring exception of its melee combat (counters work about 2/3 of the time, controls sluggish). It was baffling because I remember playing the demo on PS3 and not having this trouble. And thats when I realized:

THE GAME HAS INPUT LAG!

Now I knew it wasn’t my monitor, because I had none of that in One Finger Death Punch (and you cannot have input lag to do well on harder difficulties). So I fiddled with the setting and found out the culprit was VSync…I should have known. Turning that off also fixed the frame rate too: doesn’t go under 60fps pretty much ever. Now I’m kicking ass in melee, as I should.

Anyway, this game is amazing, particularly the setting. Although I am not one to compare with the real thing, but it sure does look like how I’d imagine Hong Kong to be: high rises, lots of Cantonese-speaking Chinese, British influence, etc. And the story is awesome so far (I’m about half-way through it). Wei goes through some serious shit and the game does a great job of portraying that. And the Zodiac Island mission is awesome! A very entertaining homage to Enter the Dragon.

An excellent spiritual successor to True Crime: Street of LA (which was also very fun), although True Crime had a much better soundtrack.

Good on Square-Enix to pick this up from Activision.

Witcher 3 delayed until May 19… Ouch. Well gives me time to beat Inquisition.

real men should use real mice, like me:

I’ve installed Witcher 2 like 3 different times, and got to the last chapter every time, then just got sidetracked and never beat it :frowning:

I’ve had difficulty with Razer products crapping out on me quite early. I’m using one of their mechanical keyboards but as soon as the K70 RGB is more available, I’m switching out. It’s only been 6 months and I’m already getting signs of wear and tear.

this is pretty much the only Razer product I would endorse. I’ve dropped it dozens of times, and it still works fine. Spilled shit on it more than I can count, and it still works fine.

Never bothered with their keyboards. I have a shitty cheap ass Azio gaming keyboard that works just fine.

I have the best gaming mice of all time.

-A CreAtive brand mouse from Wal-Mart I got over 10 years ago that still works perfectly. Meanwhile you guys are talking about l33t gam3r mice that crap out after a year. :wtf:

-A stock HP mouse.

Gamer mice=monster cables of the PC world.

Give me a stock mouse with programmable thumb buttons and adjustable sensitivity and I’ll consider not buying something more expensive because it lets me do what I want to do.

So?

Getting CS:GO within the next few weeks. It was on sale not long ago but the sale ended a few hours before I got paid. :s

I never had a use for extra buttons on my mice. I bind whatever I need to to my keyboard.

I adjust my mouse sensitivity in the OS+games I play. :o

Thumb buttons are fantastic. Never necessary, but certainly convenient. More useful in a mmo than anything else because of the number of things you need quick access to (setting targeting macros, potions, bandages, cool downs, etc)
