My only beef with Origin is that it seems only EA/PopCap games ever get discounted there. So outside of carrying newer EA games (of which only Mirror’s Edge 2 is of any concern to me), they provide virtually no competitive value in comparison with other retailers.
Their 24hr-since-install return policy is great, but as it only applies to their self-published titles, it’s a moot point for me.
I’m on the F2P version that only has the multiplayer. Will probably pick up the story version next Steam sale. I’m enjoying it so far, but it’s stressful sometimes too. Factions free MP seems HELLA grindy.
I’m still salty with my copy of Battlefield 3 not working even though my computer is more than fit to run it. The game just won’t start. Not to mention, most of the games that are worth it are on Steam anyway. EA is just being greedy tryna cut out the middle man.
well this was unexpected. guess I will be getting ff13 after all, good thing iv never played it haha
alien isolation in the rift is pretty spooky, the graphics are great and consistent even on Ultra settings, very slight judder but still playable. I only played a few minutes of the main game and had a quick go of the survival mode and lasted about 7 minutes. its in the rift so its slightly different to monitor
its probably going to have supersampling involved. most ps4/xbone games are that huge due to the amount of downsampling involved to make it look like a highend PC game on “low-midranged” hardware. so im guessing it may look very good on mid ranged PC’s
this is interesting
I mean they’re saying this for PC games here, its a lot more complex than consoles making excuses
You’re making me want to play spec ops the line again. That game’s story is such a masterpiece. Lol I can’t wait to see your reaction to later events in the game.
So fuckin’ stupid to do this, while the requirements are hilariously demanding (they don’t seem real, but to extend that far and lock your game on 30 FPS kinda makes things suspect).
Really pathetic, but it makes sense why they’re going for 30 FPS. It has nothing to do with the “cinematic feel” or anything, but rather it’s a lot easier to hid animation and visual errors under 30 FPS. Within 60, the illusion can be view by anyone, making it easy to see the errors in such elements in those settings. I remember our dev team worked on a horror game, and during production they wanted us to go in 30 FPS. We thought it was due to a console release, but one of the artists explained how it’s harder to see “robotic movements” from enemies around the area, thus, cutting the work load overall.
Forgive my ignorance sir as there are legit reasons to not like origin, especially for the whole invasion of privacy thing. Personally I don’t care too much about it since it’s still free.
Also on another note FF13 may not be the greatest thing ever but I still think it has a solid combat system braces for impact
FF13 is the only game that I’ve ever fallen asleep while playing. That’s my take on the combat. After that I realized I was better off skipping it. Still have it for 360, so I know i won’t be picking it up on pc.
The battle system gets better as you progress through the game imo. Switching through various styles, casting buffs/debuffs and trying to find ways to stagger the opponent added a lot of depth to the battle system.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea obviously but I found it better than certain other FF games where you can give all your characters the ability to cast the best spell in the game and just spam that same attack over and over again.
I remember playing SFxT and falling asleep while in training mode.
I thought at this point, age was getting to me and that I was growing out of games. The next day, I realize the game just sucked cause I spent +8 hours on a fighting game not SFxT.
the thing I don’t understand about FF12 & 13 is why didn’t [ ] just go whole heartedly with a real time combat system in 12.
they tried to somehow blend turn + real time and ended up with the “gambit” system which is fine but…doesn’t satisfy the turn based crowd or the real time combat crew either.
though the good thing about the system was that it helped your team’s AI recognize the exact moments when they had to do something important like cast heal or buff magic defense instead of leaving it up to the AI which never works in a rpg.
the 2 things I really liked about XII was Beserk ability and the best equipment in the entire game which was the Nihopalaoa ring.
the Nihopalaoa was the most broken thing in FF12.
at first it seemed useless…till I found out I could give items to the enemies on the field.
once I found that out I just bought 99 remedys and would go to all the hardest dungeons with Fran equipping the Nihopalaoa ring and dish out remedy potions to everything that moved.
if you don’t remember, Nihopalaoa reverses all restorative effects of health/status potions. and remedy reverses almost all negative states.
with the Nihopalaoa + remedy, every possible negative affliction would be bestowed on the enemy all at once.
that ring broke the game open.
As for the Beserker mode…I just gave beserk status to the big guy who wore Genji accessories(gloves) and rocked katana sword and gave him the ability to gain health when receiving damage but lose it over time when not getting hit and let him go nuts on bosses.
made fighting Zodiark so much easier.
edit:
the only thing I could never find any use for was the cursed shield Ensanguined. I still have no idea why it was put into the game. the wikia says its the 2nd strongest shield but I didn’t see it. imo.
now the best armor was mirror mail cuz you could gambit the character with the highest mp and gambit them to cast the best single character(non party) heal/bubble/protect and shell magic on themselves and with mirror mail equipped it would bounce off and reflect onto your party … saving up on mp usage.
2nd edit:
all this talk about the gambit system made me insert FF12 into my dusty ps2.
interestingly, mirror mail reflects some magic onto your party but not others. need to investigate this further.
also, I didn’t realize till now you can attack your own party members and inflict positive status onto them on hit. like weapon inflicts shell and you hit your party member with it and party member now has shell. that’s cool if you are low on mp.
My problem with the Gambit system was that FF12 was so heavily based around it, it was difficult to play without Gambit system.
What I mean by this, is that the menu for battle skills and what not were so heavily unorganized, going through the combat menu during battle was such a hassle that you needed Gambit to get around it.
Other RPGs had a similar system in the past (mainly PC RPGs), and you can play the game if you choice not to use such system. However, refusing to use Gambit mode in FF12 can make things quiet difficult, and isn’t related to the enemies. Maybe if FF12 had a real PC release…
Anybody else playing Warframe? I’ve got all the ninjas and I’m slowly working on getting all the weapons. That and when DFO beta comes out is my two main pc games. Hoping I can find the motivation to really get into KOF 98 and 2002 when they’re released on Steam. I’m doubtful the online will be good for those two. That F2P counter-strike zombie game is pretty meh imo. Getting into Quake Live and UT2K4. They’re the only two shooters I like right now. Kinda silly no one plays Rise of the Triad 2013 MP except on Saturday nights and even then theres maybe 10 or so players on. Hit me up and send me a meesage if you want to play. steamcommunity.com/id/Irunsobad
[details=Spoiler]I thought being able to wipe out some fuckers with the white phosphorous would be awesome…until you realized you may have just scorched the good guys ALONG with the civilians. That image with the burnt mother holding her charred child…the fuck.
I replayed that scenario 5 times…only hitting the targets that were red.
Same…fucking…result.
I’m not even going to try and gif it…that shit was FUCKED up.[/details]
