Looking through Steam to see what’s available today, and I notice something strange…
Project Zomboid is up on the top 10 list of top selling games.
How is that possible? Sure it’s on sale at the moment, but it’s also in Early Access state. I’m rather confused since the game was doing “alright” and then suddenly, bam, top 10 out of no where. I remember bitching out the dev in regards to the latest patch a while back how he’s making the game worse, and a lot of other steam users came in and defended my claims so it turned into a foresight as to what to see rather than some douche bag talking shit (when I say a game sucks, I go in-depth why the shit sucks).
When I first bought it I had a lot of fun, but now…
Well, if it’s up in top 10, they may have changed a lot in the past several months I didn’t play (which is highly possible, Early Access does that). Time to give this game another run.
yo, I cant find the Greenlight page man.
I just spent an hour searching for it in my steam but now that steam changed how the store page works now I cant find it lol.
cuz now when you scroll down the Featured store page, all that happens is that it keeps infinitely scrolling down with steam recommended for you game ads.
Specs Ops: The Line is one of the few games I would recommend purely on it’s story. As a game it’s average but it’s story hits hard. I like how the loading screens make the player feel like shit and decries the actions other games would glorify as the campaign goes on.
I heard that was a cool game, although really you’re still shooting shit anyway even as they’re telling you how bad it is. I’ll have to give it a go at some point to see how true that is.
I did, I liked it a lot but it’s got some mechanics that you might find difficult to like. Here’s a summary:
There’s only one resource in the game, Renown, which is used to buy supplies, buy items and level up your units. You will never have enough renown for everyone.
Supplies are used to keep the morale of your troops high, which basically means you start battles with some slight stat boosts (but will normal out soon enough).
Battles are turn by turn; you take one, then enemy takes one, regardless of how many units are on screen. Therefore, the less units are on screen for one side, the more times that unit moves
Your strength is both your health and your ability to do damage. Damage formula is strength - armour, minimum health damage of 1. Armour damage is based on a stat.
Typically, units only have one special move. Maybe two.
Anyone can die, sometimes off seemingly random events.
There are lots of decisions to make, but the core story is pretty linear. However, as far as I can tell the item distribution is a bit random, so getting items can be hit or miss.
That’s about it. Once you find the “correct” way to play, it’s all about positioning and timing of your pushes to attack, so it can get samey then.
Presentation is top fucking notch though, and I really enjoyed my two rides through the game. Ending is good too. It’s episodic though, so the core of this conflict is more or less complete, but there’s still many, many things left unexplained.
WTF, Alien: Isolation and Shadow of Mordor both have the shittiest endings of all time.
I guess Aliens I can understand the lack of a final boss just cause the way the game played out, but why did Shadow of Mordor dismiss a final boss (or any boss battles for that matter). Damnitt, why are Triple A games in the west so bad at trying to add final boss fights.
The West has never been that good at designing boss battles, with a FEW exceptions here and there. But do you honestly think the focus groups and dev managers will care, when niggas won’t notice shitty game design underneath shiny visuals and over-produced sequences?
IMO, you shouldn’t be fighting Sauron at all. Dude is way too powerful in actual lore to be going toe to toe with unless you’re Gandalf or some shit. And even he would probably say he ain’t up for it.
I feel like this is something that’s been happening as of late, since I’ve never ran across this issue in the past. Hell, I remember western devs being put on blast for not putting in a final boss around 2011 and below. Now it seems like the norm.
Indie games seem to get it right most of the time (as long as the game itself doesn’t suck), but Triple A games now a days seem to keep fucking up. They did good before, shit even Uncharted 2 had a final boss fight that was super human. Now it’s like… “who gives a fuck” and I remember reading somewhere that a dev stated having final bosses is too gamey. Pssssssssssssssh.
BTW, two games coming up that I’m hyped for.
Legend of Grimrock 2
Comes out October 15, but holy shit at their lack of any kind of advertisement. I’ve been following this game, and even the release date snuck up on me. Like, fuck guys, could you at least tell people you’re releasing a game? What ever, game comes out soon, bleh bleh.
The Evil Within
Homeboys who worked on the first Resident Evil game are up on making this one. I was basically sold when seeing the devs interview last year about this game, in how he feels recent horror games have been complete garbage and wants to bring that old terror games in the past captured. He went on explaining how, when something comes up to scare you, or if you feel terrified, you should have that same feeling you got back in the day with old horror games. Don’t know if he can pull something like this off but WHATEVER, I’ll check it cause he seems to be putting a lot of love in the game.
Also, LOL @ the System Requirements.
“i7 with four plus cores”
“GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM”
I can’t even make a joke like “is dis suckas high” cause I’m high right now and reading this is making me think they is el stupido.
I always thought of that “runner” as being satirical of certain things you see in action movies or games. In real life I highly doubt one would encounter a “crazy f*cker with a knife” running across the battlefield.
I dislike it when people say that the gameplay is generic, or is supposed to be. The gameplay is one of the biggest driving forces behind Spec Ops: The Line. If one doesn’t find it interesting enough then why continue playing it? The story wouldn’t have such a strong impact if you weren’t actively slaughtering dozens of troops.
The music is uniquely powerful. Wait until you finish the game to appreciate the soundtrack.
Btw, if you ever find yourself an AA-12…wreck shit up.
