Because isometric Action RPG’s are amazing, though the new Gauntlet doesn’t look all that great.
Mass Effect is a third-person shooter not an ARPG you silly bitch. A terrible TPS at that, with shit robotic-like animations outclassed by games from the mid-90’s as well as horrible graphics.
Edit: Oh yeah, they did make a Gauntlet game in a different style & camera angle. It sucked and wasn’t as good as Dark Legacy/Legends/the older games:
Anyways, Diablo clones are so boring there is so little room to innovate sure Path of Exile has a vastly different skill tree system than Diablo , but the core game play is the same it’s clicky clicky clicky I feel like if I played one I played them all, for those who only want only that style of game and nothing else good for them, but I’d like to see more innovation in the subgenre not just Diablo clones. BioWare and From Software definitely had their takes on the ARPGs which I love, but what else is out there? I’ve always felt there is a lot of untapped potential from mixing action games with RPGs, maybe there are a lot of ARPGs on steam I don’t know about.
Gauntlet Legends on 64 was a really fun game even with infinitely spawning enemies, would prefer seeing a sequel to that than Diablo: Gauntlet skin edition.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Dragon Age: Inquisition are exactly the kind of ARPG I’m looking for, can’t be more hyped for either game even though I won’t play them for a long time
I’ve noticed people who never really got into Isometric ARPG’s believe that clicking is all you do. Clicking is in fact the slowest way to play these games and the most scrubby. Binding your skills to hotkeys makes everything much faster & more enjoyable. Have you played Dragon’s Dogma or Kingdoms of Amalur? Both of those games are different than your typical ARPG’s.
Core gameplay in Mass Effect=shooting shit from a third-person perspective with a crosshair in real-time. It’s a series of mediocre TPS games.
I played about 20 hours of Path of Exile last summer awesome game, I think I got past the prison area with all the electric skeletons I had a pretty cool critical/ice witch build. However, it plays so similarly to every other isometric ARPG so why would I play any other when I can just play more PoE? I mean what do other isometric ARPGs offer than PoE doesn’t? PoE is also a massive time sink so I’ll get back to it someda when I cleared my backlog. Also I get the kill, loot, grind addictive appeal of isometric ARPGs, but I prefer fighting a smarter, more complex smaller group of enemies than the overwhelmingly large mindlessly aggressive mobs. I’d love to see an isometric ARPG hat has large mobs of enemies, but each one as smart and well animated as any enemy in the Souls series, imagine a mob of giant lightning drakes or 30 kings instead of 4 chasing you down
just giving enemies more HP is kind of a cop out for difficulty.
Never played Dragon’s Dogma, I haven’t played a console game in years except Geometry Wars 2, but it looks interesting maybe someday, and I played the demo of Kingdoms of Amalur and loved it.
Thanks Ki Shima I want to know what the hype is about, from what I’ve seen Star Citizen is a spaceship sim which doesn’t look very hype, but apparently over $50 million was donated to it.
I will say this much about the new Gauntlet Legends plays more like the console/arcade style with a mix of it’s own new things. If it plays too close to Diablo-ish, chances are it’s a no buy since there’s other games in that genre I’d rather play.
Kinda reminds me of those who defended Resident Evil 6, saying how it’s a good action game but not a good RE game. Fuck that, I played the game, expecting a shitty RE game but a silly over the top action game. Instead, I got NOTHING BUT THE MOST BORING ACTION GAME OF ALL TIME!!
yeah I was pretty much leaning towards elite dangerous completely though I knew I would end up getting star citizen at some point but elite dangerous is fantastic even in its beta while SC has loaaaddss of bugs and is hardware intensive. but just bringing up the star citizen launcher it looks like it will have very very high production value. may actually live up to its hype. will share whats up a bit later today
Apparently the game is getting a lot of praise for having a very interesting mechanic that no other platformer has seen…?
I dunno what it could be, but I’ll be getting it soon.
Sucka, is dat your video card? You need a BIG video card, so chics be up all on your dick. I got me that 680 gtx not cause of performance but cause of the size. Shit don’t fit in my computer, but neither dus muah dick!!
Nah but good stuff, shit looks a lot cleaner than any PC I’ve built.
I hope this is an online WING COMMANDER FUCKING PRIVATEER!!!
Guard your bibles, Retros. Sharpen them claws, Kirathi. I’ve got a steltek gun and I’m blasting my way across Gemini Sector no matter who gets in my way.
Has anyone dealt with bundle fest before? Is it like humble bundle? The last bundle the have includes dustforce and I have been wanting to get it. I might do so if there is no catch?
Just bought it for Freedom Fall, haven’t even looked at the other games. No problems with payment, went straight through with Paypal. It was a little annoying having to copy and paste the Steam keys, but I think I’m just spoilt from Humble Bundle’s system.
