The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

Meh. But on the flip side, another console-exclusive MS Studios game bites the dust. Maybe Sunset Overdrive will eventually get a PC port.

Ys origin, other games on the humble weekly :

Cool, I wish I would have known that before spending $20 on it in April.

BF4 is free to play for a week on Origin.

I’ve been playing it a lot(on console) and the game is fun as hell. Some of the maps are amazing.

Never actually played it, but I heard BF4 was a buggy mess on release. Have they fixed it yet ?

This weeks bundle is pretty nice in that they are games that look fun but I wouldn’t want to pay a lot of money for. Gigantic army looks like some nice contra action. Unholy Heights seems like a tower defense/apartment simulator…Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae a cheesy B-game slasher and Ys I also wanted to try but never got around to. One way heroics seems like a pretty interesting blend of side scroller, rpg and roguelike, reminds me a bit of half minute hero.

Already owned (so you can help yourself)

Pixel Junk Shooter (it was ok)

and

Astebreed (pretty good actually)

Anybody here have experience with blue screens pertaining to amdppm.sys?

I opened up the past several dmp files (5 crashes within two days) in the debugger tools, and it traced the problems down to AMD’s power policy management driver.

Research online - from the few results I got - suggests it might be a hardware issue, while the useless fuckers at AMD’s tech support told me I had malware

For the record, I did all of the suggested tasks in testing out hardware. Shit came out good. The only dubious things I found were from the latency tests; soome drivers took up too much ISR. Also ran Prime 95, and it shows one of the cores were not available.

Hope this shit is benign signs to massive hardware failure. Shit was getting malignant before I replaced my RAM about a week ago.

Claimed this. Thanks for the hook up!

Just nabbed that copy of Pixel Junk Shooter. Big thanks for it.

The game got like 15 patches across all platforms.

It doesn’t crash anymore on PC/PS4(Conquest matches on PS3 still lock up occasionally.)

Peoples issue with BF4 is that the tickrate of the servers is really low, so this adds to funky shit happening like two people killing each other at the same time(most modern FPS games have this problem) and other issues people relate to hitboxes when it’s probably a combination of bad hitboxes+the low tickrate of the servers.

Servers have only a 10hz tickrate, so servers only update 10 times per second. Meanwhile, other games like Counter-Strike have servers that run at a 120hz, which is what you need for things to happen the way they should without getting weird. A lot of the issues in the reddit post got fixed, but the tickrate/hitbox thing is still pretty funky. Still, the game is fun as hell.

I was looking at bf3stats.com and bf4stats.com, and the platforms that get the most play for BF3 & BF4 are Sony platforms. BF3 & 4 have the most players on PS3/PS4 respectively, edging out the PC playerbase. This was crazy to me, because BF started as a PC-exclusive game and up until recently the player caps were always higher on PC.

I recall Phil Spencer making it pretty clear at E3 that they wanted to take PC gaming as a platform seriously again with all their first-party titles. I’ll believe it when I see stuff like Halo, KI, Fable Anniversary, etc. hitting… but Dead Rising 3 and Ryse are a good set of first steps in the right direction.

Went to play Crysis 2 MP(since it’s awesome and is made by the TimeSplitters devs) and it got shutdown along with other games that relied on Gamespy.

Meanwhile, I just downloaded a fix to a 13 year-old game that also used Gamespy and I can still play that game online(Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.) Crysis 2 can still be played online on consoles, though. Might end up buying it on console just to play the MP again.

The multiplayer in Crysis 2 was so damn good. What a shame. Not sure if I want to go back to the wonky framerate of the console version after experiencing the MP with a locked 60 FPS. Back to MOH or Battlefield 3/4 for now I guess.

So far for my new rig I got…

-Antec P280 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
-Corsair Vengeance Blue 8 GB (2X4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin SDRAM Dual Channel Memory
-Rosewill CAPSTONE-750-M 750W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply
-MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Z97-GD65 GAMING Motherboard
-Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150

Video card, some extra case fans, CPU fan, thermal paste, and maybe a 2TB drive…and I’m okay?

Whew. Done. Only took a couple hours to build. Still working on getting everything set up in the meantime. Overall, surprisingly easy and fun. Opening the box and seeing all the components made it like a mini Christmas. Then, putting it together went well. I know I could do better with the cable management, but it works and the case closed fine. Though I was a bit worried about whether I could close it. I think if I stop being lazy, I may tighten up my cable management and take out the slack in the PCIEs connecting my GPU to my PSU. (Then again, it’s a non-windowed case, so there’s not much of a point). After I completely closed it, came waiting for my first POST. Fortunately it worked. Now time to download all my por…programs. Yeah, I meant programs.

Hopefully mine will go as smoothly…

Honestly, it’s so easy I can’t believe I even considered buying a pre-made. Just don’t force anything and you’ll be fine. Almost all of the parts are made so that you can only place them one way. Oh, and try to plan ahead for cable management.

Playing d BF4 demo

PENIS

Here’s a joke… The invention of the Personal Computer.

Here’s a funnier joke.

Magicite is a pretty fun Co-Op game but damn it’s pretty hard.
