Circumstancs for me to use it will be:
Both of my characters must have low health like 20% left
1 meter or less
My opponent have more than 50% health
They must be near the corner so they can’t run away
less than 12 seconds left of the game clock
WTH I’m gonna lose anyway, might as well take that chance to see if i get lucky
we don’t know if thats an impossibility yet. too early.
look at how they’re promoting pandora. they made a trailer specifically promoting it and its now an important part of the games story. thats enough of a signal that they want the mechanic to play a useful role in a matches options and not just a throw-away, super situational feature. not to mention, the mechanic being fairly new at the office, so its subject to modifications at such an early stage in development.
Pfft, the story is an excuse plot. It’s just there to give a “reason” for the mechanic to exist. Cross Assault is a more worthwhile mechanic and it didn’t get no fancy trailer. Master Chibi is right, Pandora is a comeback gimmick.
I’m hoping that Pandora mode is intentionally useless, all a part of Capcom’s evil plan. Reel in the scrubs fresh off of SF4 with the prospect of SUPER COOL COMEBACK MECHANIC which the scrubs will of course happily use over and over because it works sometimes against their terrible friends online. Capcom gets the casual money and hardcores can ignore a mostly useless mechanic.
On stream, one of the players activated Pandora to dodge Abel’s CoD(his rekka like move) and made it whiff. It looked like it had time to punish it as well. Dodging stuff with Pandora could prove to be pretty interesting imo.
That shit might actually be legit since you still gotta chase their asses down in 7 seconds or your toast haha
Atleast it ain’t braindead as ultras lol
That means absolutely nothing! You said it yourself, it’s a story aspect, what does SRK and tournament fighters care about when it comes to story? We don’t give a shit. Pandora is a “cool” version of Guilty Gear XX’s Destroy mechanic, while it will be situational useful at times for the most part as it is (as long as no way to combo into it is found) it appears to be useless @ what would be high level pay.
What did the latest Mortal Kombat do right apart from getting heavily pushed by Warner Brothers? It was jammed packed with features and had shit that casual players will eat up. In less than half a year it’s about to outsell the previous highest selling game in its series as well as what SFIV did in over 15 months. It had a story mode and all that other crap. MK’s sales put MVC3’s to shame in comparison… looking @ what Capcom have revealed so far for SFxT… it looks like they get it. This is shaping up to be the most feature packed SF title since Alpha 3.
Something like Alpha 3 is what Capcom needs, if they release something as barebones as MVC3 again than watch the critics savage them, even if it’s the best fighting game of all time. Casuals care about this stuff and after MK9 so do reviewers, game developers get paid bonuses depending on metacritic ratings and how well things sell.
We’ve got at least 46 characters if they continue to reveal 4 a month until release, we have all the SSFIV:AE online features, we have Online Training mode, we have 2v2 Tag battles, we have 4 players @ once mayhem thanks to Scramble mode, we have some gem system which hopefully is done in something like Alpha 3’s World Tour mode (this shit was the bomb yo). For the actual game itself you have Pandora mode, Alpha Counters, Cross Assaults, Tag canceling, Super and Cross Arts. It’s pretty jam packed.
If features were tiers… than Pandora mode is to this as what Evil Ryu was to SSFIV:AE, something wack to sell to casuals. Don’t worry though since we still get some godlike features for us.
But, still…could the Abel player have canceled into Abel’s super from his Rekka-special?
And since PM isn’t available till the point character is on 25%, it won’t always be a threat and also stands the possibility of being vulnerable to mind games (Unsafe looking move? Nope, not really, have fun spending your PM time in MY super, or chasing me down, or getting stuck in block/hitstun with my Cross Assault)
As it stands now, I see PM just becoming more of an option than something that MUST be done to stand a chance. I definitely like it this way if it can’t be combo’d into. Activating such a self-destructive move should be a deliberate hype-making decision, rarely seen because of its risk-reward ratio in most situation. “OSHI, MIKE ROSS ACTIVATED PANDORA, HE’S GOING FOR THE KILL”
The move whiffed, i don’t you think you can cancel it into super on whiff. It’s like how you can only cancel shoryukens into supers either on hit or block only.
I kinda like this extra dodging element to Pandora. I can see some pretty hype situations coming from Pandora dodging already.
but it DID get a fancy trailer—the systems trailer, which blatantly states, “cross assault, Street Fighter x Tekken’s centerpiece!”. it was just a trailer showcasing ALL the tag systems in the game as well, since this game has been heavily touted as having a tag-centric system for about a year now, which we all know.
it feels like we’re agreeing on most points, but disagreeing on one. its apparent to me, we’re simply not going to see eye to eye on this one point, so w/e. capcom has to implement new systems for new games. they know enough players aren’t going to support their new products as long as they use systems from old games UNLESS they include new ones in addition (at least). we’ll see just how pandora turns out as the game develops more. even a minor change could exponentially buff its effectiveness under the right (and intended) circumstances.
