uppity

i would like some tips on a project that i am doing.

I currently am going to convert my ps2 mas stick into a dreamcast one. i figure i would just solder each wire from the buttons and joystick to the dreamcast controller pcb. as shown in the figure on page 1. but what about the ground wire. and what else am i missing to do for this project.

I’m trying to replace the Playstation cord in a MAS stick… does anyone know of a cord that contains wire that are easier to solder in than that of a playstation cord? they all have that white string like stuff in them.

thanks,
adam

Just cut it off?

i do cut that portion off… but it seems as though the smaller gauge wires have the white shit in them too.

No. The white stuff is probably a ripcord to split the jacket easily. You simply grab a length of it and pull it toward the other end (through the jacket, like a shark’s fin skimming the surface of water). Don’t do it unless you need to, though.

madcatz arcade pcb triggers

Hello all.

I’m modding a xbox 360 madcatz arcade pcb, and I wish to keep the trigger buttons working. I’ve seen people keep the triggers on with the standard xbox controllers, like in the following post from the xbox-scene forum: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=581887&st=0

My question is, are the solder points LT1, LT2 and LT3 ordered the same as on the standard controller? The first picture is the standard controller:

Is the placement of LT1, LT2, LT3 on the photo below in the same order as the photo above?

The whole underside of the PCB, if you need a look.

Also, the rumble motors are ok to just cut off entirely, right? I know you can do that for the PS2 pads with no problems.
Thanks in advance for the help, everyone.

Seems like all Madcatz dreampads on EBAY are of the wrong type (they all have multiple grounds).

what a pain in the ass.

I just bought one from these guys: videogameswholesale (on eBay) and it was a common ground controller. Search their store for Dreamcast.

There seems to be a few different versions. I have three different versions right now, and two of the three are common ground pads.

Yes, you can cut the rumble motors off without issue.

Please let us know when you find out how to get the triggers working - I bet Toodles can help if you ask him.

uh is it possible to take the wire of one psx pad and replacing it with another. both pads are not official sony psx pads, but i was able to trace out which pins lead to which wire on both pads. can i just replace each wire with a corresponding wire that are on the same pin?

So you’re replacing a worn out raggedy PSX cable with another, while leaving the original PCB in the stick? Yup, works awesome. I’ve had to do that to old Mas sticks before. Just doublecheck all your pins first.

Hey again, thanks for replying to my questions, but for this pad

is it better to solder to the coppers that are already exposed (basically the dots that you see all over the picture. they are close to other lines, but those are under the green) or to solder to the coppers on the buttons?

If i solder to the exposed coppers on the middle of the PCB, do i need to make holes to get the wire through them, or do i solder right to them with the wire touching the copper?

As long as you are certain that the exposed copper points are connected to those black covered buttons, you can use the exposed copper just fine. Use a multimeter to check if you’re not 100% sure. Using the exposed copper would be easier to solder since you dont have to scrape the black crap off.

You can drill holes if you like, and if you’re 100% sure you wont be drilling through anything on the other side, but its not really worth it. Just solder straight onto the copper where it is.

speedy and efficient. thanks a lot!!

noob question here, I want a permanent line for a small led, where are 3.3v on the PSpad and the +5v on the 360pad. Is it the red wire coming out of the lead into the pcb?
don’t have a multimeter yet.

thx.

/nevermind I used an LED to see if it lights up on touching the exposed wires.

Thanks for the information!

I’ve ordered from this guy now and hopefully the pads are good. Are there holes on the PCB?

I guess what I’m getting at is where can you find the PCBs that are on the DarkRaven website ? lol. I can’t seem to find such pads from Madcatz.

oh well.

I’ll have to check for sure later. I don’t believe that the pad I got from them had holes in it. Like I said, I already have three different versions of the Dreampad. Who knows how many different versions are out there? I will take a look at the pad I got from them and post later.

Please post a link to the Darkraven website and I will compare the pads I have with whatever is on the site.

Hi guys, quick question. Do I HAVE to daisy chain (in series) the ground connections for the buttons (hacking a psx pcb) or can I connect them all to one ground? Also, i looked at the wirespsone jpeg for wiring but from the diagram i can’t tell which wire is ground for the joystick. on my stock hrap 1 i see that each of the five wires is labeled 1 through 5. is 1 ground or 5?

NVM i got it!

Are the translucent blue controllers the only pads that are Series A and will work with the no solder hack from spiffyshoes? I’m looking at some other colors on ebay and I’m wondering if anything else will work, namely black or translucent red.
