You’re not using the correct PCB. The PS2 dual shock is NOT the same as the PS1 dual shock. The fact that you are getting start/select/analog buttons working is because those three buttons share a common ground on the PS2 pad. The other buttons/directions use a different ground altogether. That is what is accounting for your problems more than likely.
You can try it with the PS2 DualShock2 but I personally haven’t tried it. Just remember to wire the other buttons to the other ground and keep the start/select/analog grounds where they are now.
im a bit confused because the above picture shows that each input has its own ground signal
can the same ground signal be used for all inputs or must each ground signal be connected to its respective button?
it’s marked like that so you don’t accidently solder to one of the grounds thinking its an input.
if you look closely at the pcb, you’ll see that all those points marked ground are connected to eachother either by the thick shiny green parts you are looking at from the top view or on the other side of the pcb via some trace.
you don’t need to wire a ground wire from each part of the pcb’s corresponding input. just pick one ground point on the pcb and daisy chain it to all the ground points on your buttons and stick.
I’ll soon be making an arcade stick for the Wii (and gamecube Ikaruga). How hard is it to hack a gamecube pad? Diagrams? Any problems with wiring the analog shoulder buttons?
Psycho, for the buttons, you see there are a number of copper contacts. The ones that looks like [ ] will work well. The left one is the common ground the right one is the live/signal. Just solder to those.
Thanks Paik. I’ll give it a shot sometime, soon, probably, though I’ll find some cheaper pads to try with than going with the $40 360 pad. Won’t be such a loss if I blow it up.
Hi guys, i’m new to these Forums but it seems like a great place to learn about stick building and modding.
I have a little question that sme of you guys may be able to help me with.
Basically i’m modding my ASCII FT 2. It has a nice optical stick in it but the buttons are dreadful so i’m swapping them for Sanwa and changing it to a Playstation stick.
If you look at the pic, there are two wires, black and red. I presume one is ground but what’s the other for? I’m only used to seeing 5 wires on sticks…
Can any of you experts help me on this, trying to avoid my usual trial and error approach!
I actually just got an ASCII Stick III today (also optical). I’ve disassembled it and played with it and I must say that it is for all intents and purposes the same as a Flash. It feels the same, it looks almost identical. I’ll post up comparison pics of all the components a little later. I’m also getting a black/yellow ASCII and ASCII Stick Justice and ASCII Stick Zero 3 (all optical) in the coming weeks. Just waiting for them to ship from Japan. I think that will mean I have most of the ASCII optical sticks ever made.
Hmmm. OK, 5volts. Thanks man! Does that mean i’d still be able to attach it to a Dual Shock PCB? Hope so…
Yeah it’s a nice stick, i think they’re pretty hard to come by these days but to be honest i’m much more a fighting games player than a collector so it’s getting souped up regardless.
Here’s some more pics, sorry they’re not that great but i used my phone:
This is how the buttons are attached. Originally they just slammed down onto the PCB, no microswitches! Now you know why they need changing! Still i think it will come in useful when i make a new DC stick, very easy to see where to solder the new buttons to.
And here’s the reverse side so you can see the tracks. This is a pretty useless photo, i can’t really get close ups in much detail, but it gives an idea.
