The Outrageous Newbie Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE)

I’m not a total noob at this game but I’ve been wondering this – does everyone’s launcher launch their opponent the same height or do some characters send their opponents flying higher than others?

Edit: I just learned that they do. Well damn.

Some launchers are higher than others. If you have a low launcher, like Julia’s, it can make it slightly more difficult to land your maximum damage tag-in combo, whilst high launchers, like Gief’s, will make them slightly easier.

Yes. They affect jumping, walking, and dashing only.

They certainly have different ones. It is most readily apparent launching into King: he can get two knees after a launch from Balrog, for instance (and much of the cast) but from Sakura and a few others he has to use c.lp and one knee, reducing damage.

thanks. I thought they launch at different heights but I wasn’t 100 percent sure.

Hey, n00b here. I was wondering about how to apply jab pressure. I just can’t seem to get into the groove of things. I keep getting jabbed to death online and when I try to apply the same pressure I just get beaten out.

Well it depends on your character, as some are made for jab pressure and others are not. For those that can, you just have to time your jabs so that they come out as fast as possible: simply mashing will not accomplish this, and keep walking towards the opponent.
Just jabbing will only result in timeouts, as it only works against reckless players unless you mix it up. After a few jabs go for a throw, or an overhead, or try to catch an opponent with a frametrap.

As for being the victim of jabs yourself, wait until they get pushed back farthish and backdash away, use an invincible reversal like shoryuken, or cross cancel them away. As for the rest just be patient, you will learn with time where the gaps are.

Jabs are not as big in this game as some would lead you to believe, but unless you play people like Cammy or Rolento who have it a strong part of their game, there are better ways to deal damage. Whenever you land a few blocked jabs, think, “how can I convert this into damage asap,” and when you are being jabbed, think what your opponent can do and how you can get out.

Why thank you. I will definitely work to apply these things into my game plan. Now If only I could get over this character crisis then maybe I’ll start making some progress.

Hey, been there man. I have had it since month 1 and I still do not know my best characters. If you tell me who you are interested in I can help you out and maybe construct a team or threesome to start really diving into the game with.

Hm, well at the moment I’m looking at Lars, Vega (Claw), Poison, Law, and Xiaoyu.

Welll the first three are predominantly considered to be first characters, they have great mobility and can dictate the pace of the match, but their damage is low, and the last two are better suited as second characters, ones that deal high damage and can mix the opponent up, but often lack the overall game needed to go first or use too much meter.

Vega is very strong in this game, and fun to use, but tricky. Lars I do not know much about, but he is great at tagging people in and is no slouch on damage. Poison is one of my favorite first characters because she can play not only keepaway but also has a great rushdown game: learning both and changing tactics on the fly is the key to her.

Law is an incredibly solid character with a great ground game and tremendous combo extensions. All he really lacks is a meterless antiair, so try not to fall on the offensive. Xiaoyu I do not know much about, she is a bit complex, but definitely worth it.

If you want to see them played, head to ssfevo’s youtube channel. He has over a hundred videos of a dozen or so matches each and you can search by character.

I think I’m going to look into Claw/Xiaoyu to start. Thanks for the advice!

One of the best players in the world won yesterday’s new york tournament with that very team. For inspiration, search youtube for sf 25 nyc sfxt top 8.

That was a extremely inspiring match. Its good to see a team that’s not Ryu/Kazuya win a tournament

How can I disable 3P/3K on PC? The game refuses to save it…

can someone tell me the best way to practice anti-airing? I either press the button too early or too late even though i am expecting a jump in.

What I do is record the dummy to repeatedly do jump in attacks and I use trial and error to figue out when’s the best time to press the button to anti air. Also keep in mind that there are certain cases where an anti air might get beaten depending on different jump ins of different characters or the distance of the jump in.

I’m not sure about local matches, but I usually wait until they just about reach the peak of the jump arch. That usually works for me online :d

So i got the anti airing down. Another thing i have trouble with is not knowing when the opponent is going to throw me. Can some one give me some tips?

If they start walking at you while you’re on the ground, or if they seem to just linger next to you without doing anything. If all else fails, grab them first.

Tag in, Tag out and roll too.
