Man those fights were fun. If we learn the BnB’s and the properties of our characters I’m sure the fights will go quicker. Will need to do this again. I’ll let you borrow my PS2 once i get PS3 compatible stick which should be soon.

It’s my buddy’s 30th bday, and we’re hitting up STP (Sloppy Taco Palace) tonight around 9 or so — hella cheap drink specials and grub. MK9 looks interesting but I’m really not sure if I’ll play it at this point, at least not until more information comes out on how it handles input and controls. I didn’t grow up with MK so I’m not really big on a block button in a 2D game. I hold out hope that this one might be more up my alley, though, because presumably (though they’ll be loath to admit it) they’ll be taking a few more pages from Street Fighter’s book in the wake of SF4’s relative success, at least where balance and system direction are concerned. (Though hopefully not the pages with the 4-frame reversal window and the ridiculously permissive input detection.)

Dashing looks more Street Fighter-like, which puts me a bit more at ease. (I didn’t like the idea of a run button that much, either.) The combos certainly look very UMK3, but like Dwight I worry about the power of those X-ray moves, especially given how nasty the primitive combos they were doing in the stage demo looked. If damage is going to be that high as a uniform thing, 3/5 should probably be factory setting for rounds.

I’ll give it one absolutely positive comment, though, the graphics look gorgeous. The lighting, the models, the backgrounds, all of those are looking very nice. But of course the acid test of this game for me will be if it achieves at least JoJo-level “1-2 guys shit all over most of the cast in competition but even the low tier characters have crazy fun BS” balance.

Rico: Seriously, don’t worry about it. I’ll have another PS2 soon enough. It’s really not that big a deal.
