And I love the adage that people who like this game or fail to understand what the problem is obviously didn’t play MvC2. I played MvC2. I owned it on every platform it was released on for various reasons. I still love MvC3 and don’t understand why people feel forced to play this game. If I had half as many complaints for a game I’d voice it as a devoted fan, but then move on. I wouldn’t vilify people who like it as ‘not true fans’ or ‘scrubs’ or whatever.
It’s unpopular because that’s not fun. Being thrown into a meat grinder where you just lose and lose and lose and don’t even remotely stand a chance until you figure it out just drives away new players.
Accessibility is good for business, but it’s also good for the community. If more people want to play the game, more people will actually want to get good, leading to a larger and more diverse tournament scene. A large part of the reason Street Fighter II was so huge was that it’s extremely easy to get into.
The prevailing opinion on SRK seems to be that this accessibility can only be gained at the expense of depth. I (and lots of other people who know a lot more about game design than I do) think that this is outright false. But, instead of just talking about it, here’s a challenge: Give me an example. Find a game that people play competitively, where first order optimal strategies are common at a high level.
The only problem with this thread… it’s not closed.
Right now the only problem I can see with the game is X-factor. People on both sides have their opinion, and only time will decide which side was more valid. Maybe in a few months we will see a patch from Capcom tweaking X-factor, it did go through several iterations during all the demo builds we had, so It’s not completely naive to think that maybe Capcom chose the wrong one to go with for final build.
If that is the case, are all the X-factor white knights going to slander the people who bitched and whined because they forced Capcom’s hand to change the system?
people were talking about how this game wasnt REALLY like mvc2 and it was just “similar” in areas before its release. Seth said this was going to be something new. So when it comes out people are like “WHAT! THIS ISNT MVC2!” and they are surprised. Thats entertainment. Game has its good, game has its bad. Play it or dont. Sure I agree there are things to fix but… really people they told us it was going to change.
Sucks Resident Evil stopped using zombies and started using infected people with a bug in them…damn…so…? CHANGE
2 words you never see in one sentence here, “you’re right.”
I love the article, but I just want to see this thread die. People are starting to get over XF and Sentinel, they are learning how to overcome. This thread is becoming a bad reminder of what used to be. I would love to see this epic first post referenced to future games. So later in the future we can say, “The only problem with MvC4… Is you.” We can look over all of this and be reminded that we can take time to learn and level up our game, so we can all play the game and (of course) enjoy it.
The issue with Sentinel seems to be that his risk:reward factor is out of whack compared to a lot of characters. That’s why Phoenix, while incredibly powerful, is better balanced simply because she had a metric ton of risk associated with her. If she gets hit by anything she is done, game over.
Sentinel has high HP, super-armor, high damage and an easy to perform combo that deals a good chunk of damage with an easy XFC that’ll take out pretty much any character. His beams are easy to avoid alone, but if you couple them with an assist such as Doom Missile, they become very safe and deal good chip.
This means for the player fighting against a sentinel it is relatively low reward for very high risk.
Will this hold up when more things are found in MVC3? Maybe not at high levels, but he’ll remain a very strong low-level stomper as is, which is bound to turn a lot of people away. People say it’s too early, that’s true. The claim goes both ways however and it’s entirely possible for things to be found that elevate sentinel even higher above than what he is right now.
Its funny with your pheonix example. In ssf4 akuma had bad health to compensate, but when anybody said so they said no artificail weaknesses don’t count. just a thought
Why is no one even posting about the thread anymore, but still posting in the thread?
You want to disprove the op or approve the op, tackle the pionts he brings up. Show that
Why Marvel isn’t going to have First Order Optimal Strategies
Show and establish character dominance to the level in which is damages the game
Show that getting hit in MvC3 truly is random, more than other competitive games.
What you should stop posting about is how much you like or dislike the game, you should stop talking about your opinion on the current fighting game community, you should stop talking about what is nothing more than your early predictions for tier list. Cry less, or at least don’t cry in this thread.
