Because Capcom has a great track record of patching shit up with buffs/nerfs that you folk’s here wanted right? Capcom and Square are on the same boat here, only difference here is either you play Capcom’s shit (SF4/Marvel) and play with everyone else, go play some obscure pedophile fighter, play a older game, or go play a whole diffrent genre. As where FF fans could just dump money on WoW or whatever the fuck a MMO is.
patches for mechanics are bad for fighters, you don’t know how its going to affect the game as a whole . Its easy to say yeah Sentinel won’t be stupid, but what about everyone else? this isn’t a FPS or Madden where it takes only 3 days to discover if something is OP deem it ban/nerf worthy get it patched and know exactly where the game is going to be the next day.
it’s funny to because most of you crying for a patch will expect that shit to be free to.
X-factor does so much mroe than boost damage, so equating it to a simple damage boost is entirely silly. It extends combos, increases speed, cancel move recovery, reset blockstun, heal red health, and stop chip damage.
Thor without X-factor is a much less threatening version of himself. Having your blockstring countered so simply into a 100 percent is ludacris.
Without X-factor, X-23 has far less oppurtunities to net a 2 character kill.
I think the speed up is the most interesting aspect of it. It creates new combos because hitstun/blockstun remains the same while the move recovery is decreased. It’s like Ammy’s and Joe’s slowdown hypers but those extend the hitstun/blockstun.
The same logic can be applied to any competitive game with different classes or factions, but that hasn’t stopped developers from patching their games when they deemed it necessary.
Making people pay for balance patches would segment the player base. That’s why balance patches have traditionally been free in every genre except pay-to-play MMOs.
Yeah, you have to have a healthy respect for what the character can do, but she’s not all that threatening due to that health. I will say though, that if phoenix had 800,000 life she would be one of the best characters in the game, even without Dark Phoenix mode. I kind of wish they had done that, because she’s fun.
They can be melodramatic at times, but nothing is wrong with them.
This. Sure, being broken made the game amusing due to its quirkiness at times, but it was honestly the options that made it intriguing.
I completely agree. I feel like at this point in the game I could do well with anyone.
The game would definitely be fine without it. I agree with that. I do think it adds a nice element though, in that you can never really count anyone out.
Yeah, this game just has some really serious abare. I don’t know why people hate it so much. I personally think it makes footsies more exciting.
There you go man. I’m sure after we all put in a lot of lab time we’ll have some good answers to the all of the presently strong tactics.
Please note that I did not say that Xfactor itself is reminiscent of ultras, but rather that the bitching about them is: people tend not to like mechanics that enable someone to make a comeback.
Even though it wasn’t what I said, I can still think of a few things they have in common, namely that both of them are gained from taking damage (except for lvl 1 X factor), and both can lead to high damage.
Also, even though she is absurdly fast, you can still keep Chun out or run away from her. Or block. Like I said, it’s pretty damn powerful but not unmanageable.
I think that if anything is a possible threat to the game’s integrity at the moment it would be Akuma’s tatsu infinite. That thing is a major delay of game…but I won’t say broken or anything until some time has passed.
Lowering the damage will not make the more damaging characters weaker. They’ll still be strong. You’ll just have more chances to fuck up and stay alive. Hell, when it comes to damage ST was arguably more unforgiving than this. You make one mistake and you’re dead.
This. Sentinel will probably seem even stronger in that case.
First of all, my first language is French and if you’re going to put up a Gofuckyougadoken of text, try to pay a modicum of attention to grammar. When you use a sentence like “Again I’m not saying that it isn’t possible that some of these strategies are OP, but claiming them to be because they show success and people play them isn’t exactly a great place to have that argument from”, you should take another look at that Arthur picture you posted.
Another problem I have is the way you go about illustrating various things that have nothing to do with MVC3 other then the fact that there are games out there that have had issues with balance. Really? Stating the obvious doesn?t earn you anything other than getting people to read 4 paragraphs of obvious shit.
The main complaints that people have about it right now is that Sentinel is overpowered and that X-factor is a little too strong. And if we stick to that, nothing, and I mean nothing in this article does anything in the slightest to dismiss that other then say ?wait and see what develops?.
Waiting isn’t going to come up with some magical formula that solves everything. It’s the same thing that happened with SFIV with vanilla Sagat. People were like “wait and see. New strats! Hur hur!” Then what they did they do? Pull out the nerf bat, and with good reason.
The reason people are whining is because Capcom had access to people in the fighting game community to keep this shit in check and they let something obvious go through. It?s as plain as the fucking sun in the sky during daytime, you just need to pick up a stick and play as Sentinel to realize how ridiculous it is. The effort you will need to put into dropping sentinel eclipses anything the person actually playing sentinel will have to do in order to kill you. He has so many tools at his disposal. He also has one of the best assists in the game. Hell, one day is enough to realize that.
Also, nice job making something this atrocious and an affront to the English language on your main page. It will really get people to take you seriously as a community.
There were examples showing how something that was good in the beginning then stopped being good as the players became better. It was setting the tone of the article that you need to wait to see how it plays out.
No magical formula but waiting does give people the opportunity to learn and figure something out. Humans are pretty good at adapting, just because it’s a problem now doesn’t mean it will be a problem later after adequate time has passed for something to develop.
If Sagat was so OP and god tier, why didn’t he win shit at all in majors? Oh yeah, because people learnt to beat him. Someone should go tell Iyo Sagat shits on Dhalsim and he should’ve lost because Sagat winning in theory = winning in actual play.
Capcom’s crystal ball was in the shop during development and their Delorean was stolen, but I’m glad that you’re able to see into the future and warn us that we never learn to deal with Sentinel and he breaks the game.
I’m sorry you feel insulted that Sentinel has to push less buttons than you to kill you.
i just received my game and got to mess around with it yesterday. sent does seem uber cheap lol. although the buttons and gameplay were vastly different from mvc2 (for me atleast), i guess some things remain the same, as sent was uber cheap in mvc2 as well.
didn’t really read the article, and i’ve never played mvc1, but mvc2 is anything BUT a balanced game. it’s like jungle ball, and anything goes. that’s what made that game what it is today. in mvc2, it was just a matter of first/random hits that lead to massive damage/kill, or about who can “out-unbalance” eachother in the particular match being played.
It does. It certainly does. Saved my ass more than a few times.
EDIT:
In fact Advanced Guard is one of my favorite elements in the game. When you bait someone trying to bait your AG, you have a fun metagame in your hands.
i know combos are cool and all, and mvc2 in it’s earlier years were all about long combos that link and look cool as well. as we all know, that eventually evolved into resets and cross ups (i give myself A LOT of credit lol). so naturally, once i get a feeling for the game, i will be specializing in my sepcialty. that’s when broken becomes unfixable haha.
