The Ongoing Tier Thread

crack shoot can be c.fped for free most of the time.

Yeah C is for sure Rugals best groove with A close behind. He builds meter fairly fast and his supers are easy as fuck to link off a lvl 1. Pretty damaging cancels as well.

anyone know what rugal lacks?

is it just that he has nothing too abuseable (besides huge damage when he does get it in)?

and this may make me sound like a scrub but what about g. rugal, he has as much life as ratio 2 sagat (maybe more) when at ratio 4, that may not sound like much but he has so many options it’s not even funny, he even has a powerful bnb ( c. lk, c. lk, genocide cutter) all 3 hits connect and it does nearly 3000 damage even at ratio 2 last i checked.

he has a raging demon, a insanely fast c. lk, insanely fast walk (way faster than vega), great dash, great run, extremely low jump, and one of the fastest and one of the only running command throws, which can be (qcf x2 k) in the corner like air dark smash.

I know he’s console only but i think someone could win a few games with him, he has so many options it’s insane and he still has everything rugal has except some shit is better (even a teleport with good recovery iirc)

his genocide cutter can be used as a anti air i think but i think it needs to be done early since it has no upper body invincibility, i had the cpu akuma do dive kicks and i didn’t do too bad shrug.

anyways anyone have any comments on rugal?

here’s a rugal comment. use sagat. hes like the good rugal.

Crazy damage is less useful when most of the top tier can just poke you in the face until you die.

In reality I would think C/K-Maki > N-Maki. Air block/JD keeping her alive against Vega, Chun, Bison, etc. But maybe I just play her wrong. Is the N-groove stuff supposed to make up for her weak poking game?

Yeah I think K is Maki’s best groove.

I think Maki should have RC and low jump. Therefore N.

i like maki in pgroove, cuz i think parrying adds to her trickiness. but then she can’t combo off a parry thats not at close range, unlike ppl like rolento with cr. mk–> patriot circles. so i guess shes more of a user in pgroove

anyhoo, is it still consensus that a-sak is the best character in this game? cuz somehow it doesnt feel that way anymore. sure shes good, but she just doesnt have sth that can change the tide of a match, in my opinion.

Ok quick question. Rolento’s grooves from best to worst C/P/A/K/N-S right?

Debatable…

C/A, P, K, N, S

How about this…

In Buktooth’s 1st post, he says that different flavors of Blanka are top-tier. This is agreeable…so how about Vega (claw)? Obviously Ricky thinks A-Vega is good, and I’m not sure if Tokido still uses N-Vega, and I never really got to see his prowess with him (stupid Honda), but I’m sure other people can talk about that. I use C-Vega, and I think his airblock/airthrow options are really useful…I’m guessing K-Vega offers JD as an anti-air setup into throw, but I haven’t seen too many of those…

A and C are the best Vega’s. K,N,P and S dont do anything for him since Vega is solely a keepaway/runaway character. Air block especially suites him very well being how at times it can be very hard to hit him to begin with (with certain characters).
He’s solid on K but all and all custom over rage.
He fights Honda very well too. Just gotta know the matchup.

P and N vega don’t work?

Vega is great in any groove. He’s even a beast in S.

Yeah, what keeps Vega from being top tier? He counters Sagat, Blanka, Chun, Guile. In C-groove he has a claw super stored, and it’s even worse in A-groove. His weaknesses are he loses his claw quickly, he’s bad when people can get in on him, but in general good players rarely get themselves in that situation. I dunno, out of all the characters in the game I hate fighting Vega the most.

he does not counter sagat. sagat in a roll groove has little to no trouble getting in on him. vega’s best poke, c.mp has horrible recovery when missed and most of sagats pokes rival that range. vega has almost no way to make a come back when he is behind. just how in the world how are you going to land that claw super? its spotty as an anti air and good players rarely fall for anti air supers. A groove is better for him but sagat’s level 2 does much more than vega’s CC and thats without the cancel. sagat has higer stamina, bigger damage output and better supers. he can win alone by just trading and sagat has no trouble knocking his mask off.

best groove vega imo is A, K/P, N/C, S.

A groove because he has RCs, and a stored CC helps him in case hes behind and just the fear of a stored CC alone makes characters even more cautious.

K/P are second because P is a turtling groove and vega is good at that. parrying covers some of his weaknesses and makes him control space even better along with that stored super. Hes good in K because like parrying, jd solves some of his weaknesses like spotty jump ins. he also has the fastest run in the game, which can create some nasty shit after a knockdown. rage give him a damage boost which he could really use. although its hard to land his supers, wake up red impact is pretty safe and he gets at least two of them in a round. also, he has one of the best low jumps in the game.

N/C are still really solid although once hes behind, hes pretty much lost the round, especially in C groove. air block is a nice but since vega’s jumps are so fast and his air game is so good, he doesnt really need to block in the air. N groove vega is really good. most mobile out of them all, but nothing makes him stand out from the rest.

S is last for one reason, its S groove:rofl:. seriously tho, his dodge moves are average at best and he has no safe level 1’s. still a force to be rekon with tho.

Hes pretty much good in all grooves.

he doesn’t out right counter sagat, but sagat has problems when trying to get in on vega. Standing RH is pretty good anti-air vs sagat, and sagat has problems catching up to vega when he’s running away.

A groove Rolento, because you can jump at people and CC through their antiair, and CC is a better power move than comboing to the wire super. C Rolento just gets air block wich isn’t a big deal, because Rolento has great priority with the jab and can RC scouter or wall jump to basically stay away from air to air weaknesses. Also even if you block the custom, it can break down P or K groove’s guard guage, and you can keep pressuring at the worst. If people are wise to the counter hit jab and Rolento’s crossup, it’s actually damn hard to land the wire super. Rolento’s custom gives you more confidence and more options. You can still ‘counterhit’ into the patriot circles (for you theorist wackos) anyways so it’s not like A groove Rolento can’t pull that shit either. Also A groove charges to MAX the fastest.

Air block is a big deal for rolento, to me at least. You can rc back scouter much more safely, and chicken blocking is pretty good for rolento too. And c.mk xx trip wire does huge damage what are you talking about. And it’s not hard to land trip wire anyway. counter hit 2frame c.jab, c.mk xx trip. s.mk xx trip. lv3 trip safe falls on reacton. not to mention you have way more alpha counters in C, which is hella good, because Rolento’s owns. and A groove doesnt chage to max fastest.

One day I was talking to someone really good and he said that against a good Vega, Sagat has to do weird things like random rollings and tiger knee > tiger uppercut just to knock them down. And I believed him.
