I totally agree. =) That’s how I play all games. Why play something if you don’t want to have fun with it? You should see my FFXI character. =) I would much rather place 100th in a tournament with a team I like playing, than place 1st with I team I don’t enjoy.
S-Groove looks really fun to play (so does P-Groove), and I know Cammy and Nakoruru are fun. Athena looks really fun too. So put them all together, and you have my dream team =) Even though I haven’t tried it yet, I’m sure there will be tons of fun strategies for that team.
I’ll have to try out S-Yuri =) I’m pretty sure S/P-Nakoruru/Cammy/Athena will be my favorite, but I’m going to try tons of characters. Kyosuke looks really fun =) I don’t plan on using him in tournaments or anything, but maybe I’ll put him in instead of Cammy when playing people who can’t beat my normal team. If I enjoy playing him that is. I’ll probably use Chun Li sometimes as well. I would love to get good with a ton of lower tier characters for casual play. Yuri, Chun Li, Kyosuke, Yun, and quite a few others look really fun to play.

Its just that lately I’ve been seeing a lot
of top tier bull shit. It’s kind of like the Evo 03 storm/ sentinal B.S. This is why I quit marvel, cause if i cant play with the characters I like and at least win once in a while then forget it, because some are unable to compete with top tier at high levels of play.
I’ve also come to the conclusion that some people resort to top tier characters to either keep up with other top tier, or they believe that there loses are because of of there characters, (I.E MVC2) and they are not good enough to keep up with them, where they feel like: "Damn!, I was crouching, and then sagat crouching FP’d me all day, sagat was like yo face is GAY! BAH!!
I represented S today (Yuri/Eagle/Geese) at my arcade after a good amount of training, and I was pretty successful against blanka and sagat, I had a little trouble against cammy though, yes my yuri was able to rush her down, break guard ect… I had to be more carefull agaisnt her though.
Not a lot of people know she has a air throw, so in a air to air confrontation facing K groove, they are waiting for me to attack so they can JD and counter, I just air throw that shit down.
Anyway this isnt the yuri strats section, and I dont want to piss anyone of. :tdown:
I dont know what the hell capcom did to kyosuke, but I cant change what was done to him so i’ll skip the babbling on part
about what would make him better. Yes I do think he is a fun character, combofiend even uses him in K-groove at the arcade I
go to, the funny thing is he beats people down with him for the most part, and hes only fucking around with him. He’s pretty good with him to be honest.
He also uses Rock/Eagle/and I think Rolento in A-groove is serious play. If im not mistaken my friend tells me the only reason he tries or tried top tier charactes was to get around
blanka/sagat shit, although I think if played correctly Rock in A
does well against Blanka(anti blanka ball CC). I saw a freeplay match with Fiend Vs Jason Cole his A rock raped his cammy.

I was really surprised when I started reading these message boards. People seem to encourage others to use any team they enjoy, rather then telling them to play only top tier. =) I was expecting people to tell me I’m an idiot for using Nakoruru, not to tell me it’s a pretty good choice and their happy I’m not choosing a top tier =P I guess I’m just used to the Final Fantasy XI boards where everyone throws a fit if you decide to play with a job/subjob/race combination that isn’t “perfect”. You even mention the phrase “Tarutaru Dragoon/Bard” and you’ll have a 100 post topic just of people telling you you’re an idiot =)
So I was happy when I came here and saw that quite a few people try playing the lower tier characters and grooves. Not only that, but people actually encourage others to play for fun, not to play for perfection. Using phrases like “Sure, that team would work pretty well if you could think up enough good strategies for it” or “It’s not the best team in the world, but if you like playing it, and practice using it, you’ll do fine”. =) It’s a nice change of pace from “No. You’re an idiot. Play Bard/White Mage or don’t play at all”
I think that’s one of the biggest advantages lower tier characters have in tournaments. I bet very few players have ever played against a really good Yuri or any other lower tier for that matter, which means they don’t know how to stop them. Where as most everyone that’s played for a long time knows what an A-Sakura is going to try. They might not be able to stop it, but at least they know it’s coming. Though I doubt this alone would get you very far in Evo or some other big tournament. It might even out the teams a bit though =) You can’t stop something if you don’t even know the other team can do it. (I’m sure this advantage kind of dies off in really high levels of play though, I’m sure the best of the best know what every character can do and how to stop it. But it’s still nice to know more about your enemy than they know about you.)
Not to go off topic, but I just got Chains of Promathia awhile ago. Haven’t done much with it yet, I’m not high enough level. =) Looks cool though. I poked into Bibiki Bay just to find out everything as Incredibly Tough to me =l Oh well. Looks like a good area for the right level.
It would be awesome to play against you (and everyone else on these boards) but I don’t own an Xbox. =l So I can’t play online. So the only way I could play with any of you would be at tournaments or something. I don’t think Oregon has very many of those though. Oh well, maybe I’ll take a trip down to California sometime, if I get really into CvS2 =)
About us playing Final Fantasy XI together, that sounds fun =) If/when you get the game let me know, I’ll get you a world pass for Fenrir (my server) so we can play together. Unless you know other people that play the game, and you want on their server instead. =) Fenrir could use more players that think for themselves (though it seems Fenrir has more of those people than most servers do). Actually, if anyone that reads this post wants a World Pass for Fenrir, I can get one for you.
Anyway, back on topic. I’m guessing that Maki, Akuma, and God Rugal are counted as ‘Mid Tier’. Most people post the tiers by listing all the top tiers, then the characters that are almost top tier, and then they say everyone else is mid tier. And since Buktooth didn’t mention those three, I assume he means for them to be mid tier. (He said K-Rock is High-Mid Tier, but didn’t mention the others) It seems strange for Akuma to not be top tier =l But that’s just because I’m used to other Capcom games where he was too powerful. Of what I’ve heard he goes down too quickly to be top tier, but I might be wrong about that.
Sorry I can’t be more of a help about it though =) Since I haven’t even played CvS2 yet, I’m just going on what others have said, and what the characters were like games I have played.
i think akuma and maki are on the upper section of the mid tiers, with A-akuma higher than C/N-Maki.

i still prefer maki in K groove, but i’m just using iyo for my tier listing. i know there’s other japanese maki players, but i either haven’t heard of them, or they suck too much.
ehh… i got a match of haramori (n-iori/blanka2/morrigan) vs bas (a-maki/akuma/bison2), not sure if he was too great with her, as haramori’s iori mopped her up.
I’ve seen some combo videos of good Maki players, and they seem pretty good. (Though they were just combo videos, so the combos might not work in a real match) Like vasAZNion13 said, she is probably on the upper part of the mid-tier list. I’ve read a few posts saying she’s really good as well. It seems she has some nice combo’s at least. And her supers look pretty good.
Oh, and sorry for going too far off topic Buktooth =(. I would have sent most of it in PM, but I thought it had enough to do with the topic to post (about people playing high-tier just because it’s ‘better’, instead of learning to use lower tier characters.)
I found some videos with a good Maki player in them. She gets destroyed in some of the videos, but she does pretty well in others. Assuming that both players were at about the same skill level, Maki seems pretty good. She held her own against a Sagat in one of the videos.

There are some matches with Akuma in them as well, and Rock (and tons of other characters). I don’t think Maki is anywhere near top tier, if these movies are anything to go by. Though she seems pretty good =)

Anyway, where would you guys put P and S Chun Li and Hibiki on the list? I know Chun Li is pretty good in C and N grooves because she can use her supers, but is she any good in S groove? Are her supers any good at level 1?
