I first signed up on SRK when I was 14 years old. It helped turn me from a boy to a somewhat adjusted man. Something I noticed about General Discussion is that it suffered from the consolidation of the internet. That is, back in the day, I would cruise by General Discussion in order to view funny internet videos and read rants on a variety of topics. Now, with Internet 2.0, all of the videos I could ever want are on one site. All of the discussion I could ever want to indulge in, has its own forum. Specialization has killed the jack of all trades; narrowcasts outdo the broadcasts, because people can get what they want and more of it somewhere else.
Thus, the nature of General Discussion has gradually changed from “fourth den of the internet” to “Official [TV Show] and ‘hi im new’ threads.” For some reason, and maybe it’s because of the loss of old members, I feel like SRK’s less of a close-knit community and more of a gathering of strangers who happen to like fighting games now.
Which is all well and good anyway. I’m a slightly better fite gamer now.
I think SRK could use a little more edge, and a little more character; posters who you know would have this quirk (but not necessarily a gimmick) that identifies who they are without having to read the username or look at the avatar. SRK can also stand to lose some of its more dick members. I mean, being an asshole and being hillarious is fantastic, but being a dick with no creative flair is just spitting pathetic vitriol with no regard for your fellow poster. You suck.
I’m still around, but I’m mostly just a lurker at this point.

I came in 2003, and really didn’t talk to Mummy much, if any. But I remember, how powerful it was when he was writing and talking about how he could feel the life draining out of him… I also remember all of the Mummy-B RIP avatars. Those were definitely prime SRK days. I’ll agree that SRK started to weaken with MvC2 fading away.
I remember I loved Unreal’s “Guide to College” thread. That shit was epic… I actually had it printed and posted on my wall.
I remember when La Bamba used to post on SRK. I remember looking at SRK with RPD Rookie and Crouching Tiger for the first time back in like 2001.
I wish I could say that I have done more for the site and the people here. But I will say that it makes me happy when I come here and see people from years back.

My earliest memories of SRK
My fight with PsychoMistress over Michael Jackson’s blackness. I declared that he wasn’t black (I didn’t mean genetically, I just meant that his skin color looked more like a raw hotdog) and she just jumped all over my ass for that remark. Eventually, I got the point that they were trying to make: He was born black and he will die black. Yes, but until then, he will still resemble a white woman.

I don’t remember which version, but it was the one where g0kux3 (he’s changed his ID since then, but I don’t remember what he changed it to) posted his picture and Athanasy said something like “WTF, do you rub hamburger grease in your hair?” - This was when I knew that this was a place I wanted to hang around in.
That topic where I belittled Stephen Hawking by saying his 200-something IQ is real impressive “when you’re in a WHEELCHAIR”
I also remember thinking that the posters who never capitalized anything (people like blackadder and hoonyo) were dangerous motherfuckers. There was just something extremely intimidating about that style of typing to me.
Vaersting. The poster from Sweden. I remember his little RIMS SPINNIN’ quip. That’s about all I remember of him.
The IRC chat. For some reason that I will never understand, people fucking hated my guts there. I hadn’t been a member for that long (certainly not long enough to build any of negative reputation) and I definitely didn’t have any kind of elitist douchecunt persona about me. There were only 3 people I remember having a normal conversation with in the IRC chat: thedude.com, m00b, and sim0n. You guys are awesome.

So, I just lost interest and stopped visiting for about 2 years. Then I randomly stopped by yesterday and made a post and here I am making another one.

Chicks and SRK tended not to mix anyway…there was the Queen of Combat incident, there was the Juggs stuff which I have blocked out of my memory, more recently there was Roxie getting the old qcf+assist button, etc. To say nothing of the interent transvestitism like with Red Queen and Sexy Zeldie etc. It seems the smarter female posters just stop posting…
The SRK City avatars in the Sin City font were cool, it’s a shame nobody sports those anymore. The Empire spoff avatars were good, but Million’s Empire Tsung one was the best ever. I probably remember as many avatars as posters…Political Anarc’s Raphael one, Aceturnedjoker’s shooting smiley face with the jester hat on, HVS’ with Spiral as a DJ, RoninChaos’ old APC ones, Viscant’s old Sailor Moon one before the Gay Pimp one, etc…

-That one SRK premium election thread that I got nominated for. It was full of ESC/SPAC debauchery pics, stories from myself, and another political flame war between Dataika and Weeks. It was like a best-of-SRK thread.
