The Official Wii U thread V.1.1 - Sun Sets on Wii U, Switch Over In March

Publishers fucking with consumers again? Not the least bit surprised! Has Capcom announced a Resident Evil 6: Gold Edition yet?

The topic of demo limit does remind me how much I played the Unreal Tournament ‘99 demo back in the day. Still one of my favourite FPS’ of all time!

The hell? When did the Rayman Legends demo come out? Playing now…

You’re living in Nostalgia. Super Mario Galaxy 1 is better than Mario 64 (albeit it didn’t have the revolutionary impact. I just beat Super Mario 3D Land and I say it’s better than those games as well. I will concede that the new super mario bros series was not that great.

The following comments come from Monolith Soft’s Michihiko Inaba and executive producer, Hirohide Sugiura…

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugiura: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”

Monolith Soft, best known for developing the critically-acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles, opened a new studio in Kyoto, Japan, last year, in order to be closer to their parent company, Nintendo. What exactly have they been up to since then?

After Xenoblade, Monolith Soft went on to develop Project X Zone, a crossover RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, featuring characters from Capcom, Namco Bandai and Sega. They also helped out with certain aspects of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. And finally, in September, Nintendo revealed that they’re working on a brand new Wii U game.

In a series of interviews conducted internally last year, Monolith Soft discussed their projects and aspirations. Regarding their Wii U project, they were rather tight-lipped regarding what to expect, but they did say that it will be a challenging game that will get people together, and that you can expect it to be both very flashy and addicting.

This is going to be their first jump into next gen gaming. Monolith say they thought about it for a while, but and decided that if they were going to jump into the next generation, they’d like to have the perfect team in order to do it the right way. Working alongside Nintendo will be a huge advantage, they feel, as Monolith Soft will have a better understanding of the Wii U’s capabilities, in order to produce top notch titles for the company.

Monolith Soft’s Michihiko Inaba and executive producer, Hirohide Sugiura, had a couple of quotes to share, regarding their upcoming Wii U game.

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugiura: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”[/details]

Fuck yeah. I hope Mistwalker and Treasure are working on some Wii U projects.

I’ll admit these words have hyped me a bit to see what they have in mind and them actually moving closer to Nintendo is great. This being said though I’m not gonna hold my breath for the hope of even one trailer at E3. There are 2 things I personally want from Nintendo involving the Wii U in coming E3 right now and that’s Retro Studio’s project and 1 trailer for Smash. Everything else will just be icing.

Sakurai is going silent on everything because people over analyze stuff he says

Edit:

People actually doing Jeopardy questions in the Jeopardy Miiverse community…slightly amused.

this has at least been confirmed for the UK.

ZombiU producer was “disappointed” by early reviews

This is pretty much the power of Miiverse…If Miiverse didnt exist then ZombiU probably wouldn’t be selling well as it has.

There’s also an interview with the ZombiU guys

One of their influences was in fact Dark Souls along with the old school Resident Evil games. They’ve also been seriously watching ZombiU’s miiverse and will be making an account soon that will show up in ZombiU for people to get.

Anyone set up the controller to use with their TV yet?

I did. Though it wont get much mileage from me however.

I got mine set up for TV. I have it at my PC desk, plugged into an AC outlet. Its nifty when I am at my PC and/or cannot find the remote in a pinch(such as volume, turning to Xbox, or light channel surfing). Pretty handy for me. tbh.

The Nintendo TVii update is supposed to get put up at some point this month so we’ll probably get more use out of that functionality then.

I decided today was going to be the day I transfer my stuff…I’m starting the process now so we’ll see how this goes.

Went to target for the B2G1 free deal but they didn’t have Darksiders 2 so I just got the Sonic racing game since I liked the demo. Forgot how bad I am at racing games haha still fun though.

Someone responded in my post about the Darksiders/B2G1F on Miiverse pretty much saying the same thing that Target was out of Darksiders 2.

Trying some Wii games I have in Wii mode to see how it looks…I’ll give my impressions on it in a minute.

I wonder what Nintendo TVii is supposed to be. Well, I’m still waiting for this thing to show up in the mail but my enthusiasm simply isn’t there for it yet. I’m hoping that my wife will use it as an alternative to the xbox 360 for using netflix/hulu etc.

Essentially, it allows you to control aspects of your Cable/satellite service, Netflix/Hulu/Amazon video services so you can control them on your Gamepad. Watching tv but also want to DVR a show coming on later, pull up the Wii gamepad and they say some things later on will allow info via broadcasts to appear on the gamepad as well, stuff like that is what Nintendo claims the Nintendo TVii service will ultimately be like.

Ok so first off I"m going to say bringing stuff from the Wii to the Wii U was both more complicated than it needed to be and at the same time not as bad as I was expecting it to be. Overall I believe the process for my transfer took probably a little over an hour overall. The only issue I had with transferring stuff came in the form of the Wii telling me in the middle of the process that it couldn’t move one of my Wii Ware games (Lost Winds) for some odd reason but everything else got moved including my left over points and my wii shop history. Lost Winds is a good game so I’m wondering the reason why it has to remain on my Wii or I will probably have to Download it over again (Not only could I not move it but it also couldn’t move the history with it the says I bought it for some odd reason…ok i just did a search for it on the Wii Shop and they removed the first game but kept the sequel…?? maybe that has to do with it?) So yeah that game had to remain behind on my Wii…alone…

As for Wii games on the Wii U, I tried a variety of games with various results. The games I took a look at were Skyward Sword, Muramasa, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. One thing I noticed with most of the games is that the UI and 2D elements in the games looked pretty good. Muramasa looks just as good as it did on the Wii using component cables. Skyward Sword looks relatively solid in terms of background objects, it just needs some Anti Aliasing for the most part. Things in the bacground and up close look pretty good in Xenoblade but it’s when the objects are in mid range it’s when they don’t look as good. Prime 1 and Prime 3 look pretty good but I’m sure it’s mostly a testament to Retro’s art. So it looks like a mixed bag depending upon the game you play.

Edit:

unrelated but I didn’t realize that Reggie was making a reference in the most current Direct about some comments Bill said in an earlier Direct until someone made this vid
