The Official Wii U thread V.1.1 - Sun Sets on Wii U, Switch Over In March

Eurocom laid off a ton of staff and is now doing just mobile games.

I guess 007 is going back into retirement on consoles

It looks like a THQ PR person had to come out and ‘explain’ comments made by Metro dev

He’s not taking back what they said or anything but something that he did say had to do with the conversation that we had. Metro is a CPU intensive game and in order for them to make it work on Wii U they’d have to retool it and have a dedicated team working on that version something that they can’t do currently with it being enough for them to make the game on 360 and then port it to PS3. They only have a small group of people work on the game. They did acknowledge that there are developers finding ways around the issues.

Comments by the Digital Foundry guy sound also pretty inline with what Bunkei was saying earlier in terms of power consumption.

So again we gotta wait to see in a couple of years before any true judgement calls are going to be made on this. Aliens: Colonial Marines is the next big 3rd party multi plat title followed by InJustice and I’m sure there’s some other things to be announced since next to nothing has been announced coming out in the first half of next year.

Some Random thoughts…I enjoy Miiverse so much that I think Nintendo needs to have like a general forum banner or even have banners for games that aren’t even out yet but are confirmed to be coming to the system. I’m sure someone probably has thought about this already and I’m fully expecting a system update that should allow that in the future.

A full fledged console Phoenix Wright would probably work really well on this system. Use the gamepad to search around rooms for evidence and being able to examine it on the pad as well. It’d pretty much be a souped up version of the ones on DS/3DS. If Capcom was to do it though I wouldn’t put it out at $60 though.

RadiantSilvergun also said Okami coould probably work pretty well with this setup too. Anytime you’d go to draw the screens would switch seemlessly allowing you to draw with the tablet.

Animal Crossing will really benefit from this thing especially with custom designs. I see all these drawings people are doing on miiverse and I’m imagining all of that potential being released into that game. Hell…artistic customization in most games should be done quite well.

I’m having a really hard time not thinking about Smash right now…

Didn’t Randy Pitchford once say that the WiiU ver. of Colonial Marines could end up being the best console version? Just wondering if he still feels that way, I sure hope so.

Yes he has. His team also isn’t really tied to try to make it out before the holiday season is over so hopefully Him and his team have had plenty of time with the system to iron out all the kinks. He’s been one of the positive voices so come next year we’ll see if there is any weight to his words.

I’m VERY MUCH looking forward to the Aliens Colonial Marines game based on the expectations set by Mr. Pitchford and Mr. Burleson (below)

*Hot on the heels of Vigil revealing that the Wii U version of Darksiders 2 will look “at least as good as” the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, Gearbox Software has gone one step further, and insisted the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines will be the best-looking version. *

*Echoing Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford’s comments made earlier this month, senior producer Brian Burleson described the Wii U is a “powerful, powerful machine”. Publishers and developers working with Wii U are under orders from Nintendo not to divulge information on the console, with technical specifications a closely guarded secret. *

*Previous reports have suggested Nintendo’s first HD console is “not as capable” as the PS3 and Xbox 360. And Nintendo has issued a statement admitting its focus is on gameplay, not graphics. Eurogamer has been told by developers who wish to remain anonymous that Wii U ports of multiplatform games will look as good as PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but games built from the ground up for the console will show its true potential. *

*While Burleson is under the same orders not to discuss the Wii U in detail, he insisted Gearbox has managed to get Aliens: Colonial Marines singing on the machine. *

  • “[Creating the Wii U version] has been pretty easy,” he told Eurogamer. "The Wii U is a powerful, powerful machine and it can do a lot of cool new things. And so the game itself, moving it over to work on the Wii U was not much of a chore. *

I heard that the Wii U can only handle two tablets max if you are playing multiplayer on one console?

Why is it that not only can you not buy the tablets separately, but you can’t even use 4 if you get ahold of em for games like Super Mario and junk?

Lot of processing power to run 3 displays at the same time. Most computers have trouble running two displays, much less 3+ along with multiple user input at the same time.

I have a quick question since I’m about to go games-shopping: Has anyone tried Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed on both Wii-U and Xbox 360? If so, which system should I get it for? I don’t own any specialized racing controls, so I’d be playing it on the system’s stock controller in both cases if this matters.

For the foreseeable future, all Wii U games will use just one gamepad at a time. When the time comes when the game will use more than one gamepad, Nintendo will make them available for sale. It will definitely take a lot of resources to do 3 separate video outputs (1 TV + 2 gamepads) as crotchpuncha already mentioned.

I think that once developers really get familiar with Wii U’s architecture, they will find ways to implement 2 gamepads without noticeable degradation in terms of graphics and framerate (ideally, you’d like to see 30 fps for all 3 sources).

Honestly I haven’t heard much about Sonic All Stars racing on any platform thus far. I don’t know much about it to really give you any idea what to expect.

Yeah… looks like it’s kind of slipping under the radar for the most part, huh? Thank you for the reply in any case, Bunkei!

I mentioned Sonic Racing Transformed earlier. I haven’t played it on 360 but it’s solid on Wii U. The only issue the game has is there being a glitch in the boost challenges where the checkpoints don’t show up and that one time where the water disappeared that hasn’t happened again. Like I said before, if you’re looking for a kart racer that isn’t Mario Kart then this game will do in spades. Pick it up…we need more people out there and again it’s only 40 bucks!

Thanks for your thoughts! I had been hoping for some 360 comparisons, but if the Wii-U version is at least competent then I’ll strongly consider it.

You can also do 5 players local with Wii U by having 4 player splitscreen on the TV and 1 on the pad. I’ve also seen people seen ID’s with at least 2 others online in some of my races.

I picked up Black Ops 2 on the WiiU. I dunno. I’m just not feeling it(and by that, I mean on a personally level. Game actually plays great on the system)…probably be taking that one in for trade today. Mario U and Sonic RT are looking good, might scoop those up over the next few weeks. Also, very interested in Mighty Switch Force HDE. Anyone got info on that one?

exactly how good is the mario game? is it comparable to mario 3 and world like ppl are saying on gamefaqs?

kinda wanna buy the system just for this game alone.

Might Switch Force is a very fun and challenging (especially going for the par) puzzle platformer, and it comes with 21 more hyper stages that aren’t in the 3DS version. Highly recommend picking it up. Hyper stages will test the fuck out of your reflexes/platforming skills.

Cyber Connect is interested in bringing a Naruto game to Wii U

personally I’m surprised there’s even a debate about it but in any case I personally would rather have an updated CoN than Ninja Storm. We missed out on getting the last one from japan sadly. I can only hope they’re in the process of making one now.

Fuck yeah! Went to Best Buy randomly and they just had a fresh batch of like 15 consoles. Picked up the Deluxe with New Super Mario and Scribblenauts.

Might go back in a bit and pick up another one if there’s any left.

Tell us your thoughts and impressions on the system when you get a chance.

For sure dude. I’m gonna hook it up tonight at some point.

What games have you been playing Sonic? ZombiU any good?
