That has nothing to do with the potential of the console. You are talking about games that was optimized for older/dated architecture and getting them to run on a completely new architecture that is the Wii U. That’s not a fair comparison. When we see games built from the ground up for the Wii U (like Rayman), that will give us a better idea what the console can do.
It’s a stupid logic that’s been parroted for way too long. Heck, we can’t even get a perfect version (or even close to it) of MvC2 on X360/PS3. Does it mean that the Dreamcast was a more powerful console?
Lastly, don’t ever expect EA to spend any money/time/resources in doing justice to ports to new consoles. Back in 2005, the exact same thing happened, Madden for X360 was missing features and was blasted for not looking like a ‘next gen title’ compared to the Xbox version.
I’m sitting on 2 systems, but no one’s biting. I wonder if I should sit on them longer to wait and see if it sinks in with the general population that the system is likely to remain sold out before Christmas.
I read an article saying that there are about 2500 wii u on ebay right now which means a lot of people bought wii u just to try and make a profit. I haven’t heard that there was going to be a shortage like with the wii so I am not expecting one at this time. I am not going to lie, I won’t feel bad if you can’t unload them. Too many people trying to relive that wii and wii fit craze.
My asian wife was at Fred Meyers…She ended up buying me a Wii U Deluxe…Apparently they got 10 in last night…Maybe quantity isn’t that limited…
The funny thing is i have no clue what the Wii U is, just that its a new system for Nintendo…Have no idea what games to get or bother getting. It comes with Nintendoland so going to try that out tonight…Might pick up Mario if there is a good deal on black friday.
I went to Walmart and there were a whole mess of Wii U systems in stock (like ten of them). Kids were passing by, giving it a cursory glance and then walking over to the 360 section. So there’ll be plenty for you late comers to have because only the Nintendo fanboys made the preorder stock sell out.
Except you’re missing the fact that multiple developers and others have pointed out that the Wii U is in fact weaker and slower in some ways than the 360/PS3. The only potential of this console is going to come from 1st party exclusively, if multiple publishers and developers ALL can’t get their games to run at parity with their 360/PS3 counter-parts, don’t you think something is up? The Wii U is much weaker than we all thought, and that’s why Nintendo was so hush-hush about its specs. They didn’t even show 3rd-party titles at two E3’s because they all ran like shit on their console.
Pay 60$ for inferior ports or 20$ for better versions of the games on older consoles, seems like a tough choice.
Meh… If I recall correctly 3rd party developers were also shitting on PS3’s architecture at first despite the console having stronger graphics…that was in the beginning though. Now the developers know the ins and outs of the console and have found ways around things. The only way we are going to find out is when 1-2 years into the console’s life. Launch games for any console are not going to be a good indicator of anything and that also goes for 720/PS4.
720 and PS4 will probably be better in the long run. Better hardware and more games with high metacritic scores.
I think Nintendo’s got another last place situation on their hands, just like they did with the N64 and GC. And that’s not my hate for them talking, that’s objective fact.
There’s also a better way to actually send people friend requests. You can actually search for people through Miiverse and then go to their profile and send a friend request through that way. I wasn’t aware of that until now. Doing it through the friend’s list would require both parties to put in names so this is better.
Speaking of which…King I added ya but I don’t know if you have it set up to not accept random friend requests or not since when I tried to send you one the button was grayed out.
If the ports are shoddy or the games are shitty, it’s pretty easy for me not to buy them. If I’d have judged a system by the quality of their launch ports or shitty games I’d have probably sold my systems by now.
The biggest offense is how many shitty console to PC ports there were this generation and how it’ll likely continue into the next. Rockstar is notorious for this.
Or if a game by some miracle isn’t an unoptimized piece of shit its controls are still simplified to accommodate for a gamepad. See Crysis 2.
If it weren’t for mods all of Bethesda’s RPGs would be ass on PC.
Then by the same logic, you would have judged the X360 and PS3 inferior to their predecessors given how the first generation titles looked.
Yes, something IS up, and that’s the fact (repeating it again for emphasis) that are you talking about porting over games optimized for an older architecture onto a new architecture that they are still learning. In that NeoGaf link, I’ve seen several attempts to discredit the Wii U by selectively editing comments so it seems that 3rd party developers are disappointed in the Wii U. Even Tekken’s Harada got upset with how is comments regarding the Wii U was twisted And really, I’ve yet to see any major developer say flat out that the Wii U is weaker than the current consoles. All we have is rumor and statements being parroted from one site to the next as if they’re fact. The truth is, Ubisoft and Activision are quite excited about the Wii U, and the list of games planned for the system is proof that it’s not just hot air. Some developers have remarked that the Wii U’s architecture is different, and presents challenges as any new platform would. But different does not = weaker.
This isn’t a question about the console’s potential; this is a question of priorities. Obviously, publishers like Namco, Ubisoft, and Activision made sure the Wii U version of their biggest IPs didn’t disappoint. Then you have publishers like EA, who obviously employed developers who basically made no real attempt to make sure the Wii U version was up to par.
Even now, you continue to assert that the Wii U is ‘weaker’ than the PS3/X360 … when no one has any idea what the console is running in terms of hardware besides what kind of memory it uses. That’s a problem … and shows that people will believe what they want to believe despite the facts (or lack thereof).
Nintendo has never been about technical specs; it’s about the overall experience. If your experience is directly correlated to the graphical capabilities of the game you’re playing then I suggest taking that $300 and putting it towards a nice graphics card instead of the Wii U.
Original Playstation sold 100 million+ worldwide, N64 sold… let’s say 33 million. Seems like last place to me, but hey, maybe numbers work differently on whatever backwards planet you Nintendo fanboys are from.
We know that 2 out of 3 main parts of the hardware are worse than the 360/PS3’s. It has a 1GB stick of ram, which is a bigger memory pool than what the 360/PS3 has, but it’s in fact *slower. The Metro: Last Light developer pointed out that the CPU is also slower *than the processor’s in both the 360/PS3 and because of this he can’t even develop the damn game for the console. The GPU is supposedly some 1GB ATI card which beats what’s in the 360/PS3 but that’s it. Console is released 6-7 years after the 360/PS3 and is worse than both performance wise. I’m just pointing this out to you guys so you can be informed when potentially making a purchase of the console.
It’s all good, I’ve joined the PC “master race.” True 1080p games running @ 60 FPS all the time >> my experience with sub-30 FPS, sub-HD games that I’ve been playing on all three consoles.
Ah well, doesn’t really matter for me; I had both systems. I never really care much for console wars aside from the old Genesis vs SNES. Now that was a real console war worth arguing over at the time.
N64 had a really solid library of great games and I can’t say anything less with the Playstation.
Then yeah, Nintendo slowly dropped off for me later in GCN’s life and the other consoles started to shine. Though portable gaming at the time was pretty damn amazing PSP and DS alike. Then the Wii came and it was fun for a while… then there was literally nothing that appealed to me. Like a good game comes out here and there but that’ll be it. I do know why that’s the case, no need to explain lol.
So now I have a laptop that’s capable of playing current PC games without too much hassle and a PS3 to cover console games that aren’t likely to reach PC. Eventually I’ll build my own PC too.
More on topic, I tried out my girlfriend’s Wii U. I do like how they put some emphasis on appealing to possible spectators watching you play. First thing I thought was like " damn they added a spectator cam for the player…while looting." while watching her play some zombiU.
Now that I think of it, mechanics like that is well suited for streaming. Imagine a generic situation where the player is busy focusing on a task at hand, while the spectator cam shows something sneaking up behind him. The chat blows up, he gets blown up, hilarity ensues.
I couldn’t help but think that Nintendo added those features in response to the rise of people spectating other people playing for entertainment. Even if the game isn’t meant to be played competitively or whatever. Maybe the devs personally enjoy watching other people play themselves and wanted to expand on it. Who the fuck knows but no matter, it’s a cool feature.
That aside, I’d still be pretyy reluctant on buying a Wii U anytime soon. I was stuck with the Wii and starved for decent games… for I don’t know how many years while other consoles had amazing games like Dark Souls/Demon Souls. I don’t want to fall into that shithole again rofl.
I regret young me’s decision of buying an N64. Should’ve bought a Playstation. But oooh, Mario and Banjo. Ugh. What a horrible decision.
What did the N64 have? Did it have good RPGs? No. Good fighting games? No. Good racing games? No. Puzzle games? Not really. Action games? Nope. But holy FUCK it had an endless amount of Mario 64 clones where you collected four million different kinds of bullshit, so if you were a fan of Mario 64 you sure lucked out!
Okay, that’s not entirely fair. It had a few gems like Conker’s BFD, Tetrisphere and Goemon. But the PSX just had so much more.
