The Official Wii U thread V.1.1 - Sun Sets on Wii U, Switch Over In March

Picked my reserved Deluxe one up at Wal-Mart few hours ago…long ass install kinda sucked. My launch title of choice, ZombiU. Remains to be seen if this was the ‘right’ choice. But I ran through some of the beginning area and damn. The flashlight has to be flipped off to recharge…game is dark as fuck…I like it…Controls are going to take some getting used to…the sensitivity seemed a little sluggish to me so I mess with that before taking on the undead ‘one hit wonders’.

Gamepad is going to take some getting used to…having to stop and look at it while shit is going on…that will probably be so, so many the death of my survivors. LOL.

Long download was long…Trying to check out all the functions and stuff on the system right now and going through the nooks and crannies. Currently in Miiverse. NSMBWU and NintendoLand are top in terms of games people are talking about and Madden is way at the bottom. Also made my NNI…Sonichuman. Being able to send my Mii from my 3DS is a nice touch.

So I have been hearing some very different things about ZombiU. How many of you have it? IGN and Gamespot didn’t like the game.

Here is a Quick Look for ZombiU @ GiantBomb:

Eurogamer loved it. Could it be a cultural thing? It is set in London and it is hard work to kill the zombies. Maybe this is what some people used to killing zombies in COD don’t like? It is a survival horror game and not a shooter. If you expect a shooter you will probably be very disappointed.

How is everyone liking their wii u so far? I won’t be gettin mine until next year sometime.

Pro wrestler: I agree with what you just said, I believe people will dislike like the game if they are expecting what the market has been saturated with. The COD shooter omg zombie horde what fun game.

This is supposed to be a survival horror type game and not a generic shooter and I think that is going to be turning a lot of people off because that means there will actually be difficulty. It is one of the many games I am looking forward to getting when I get my wii u.

Got both of my deluxe editions. So pretty. Gonna hop on Nano Assault Neo later tonight.

I have Ninja Gaiden on reserve. Think I’m going to trade for Zombiu instead. Still getting TTT2 though. Want to get down on some Tekken Ball again.

Me and my wife have pretty much been playing NintendoLand for most of the day specifically the Zelda minigame. We’re pretty much having a blast with it at the moment. I wanted to play the Mario Chase game with her but then the wii mote I was using died. So I ended up picking up more things than I was going too initially…I have NSMBWU, ZombiU, Darksiders II and I went ahead and picked up Sonic Racing Transformed since it was only 40 bucks. I’m digging Miiverse and I think it’ll probably better once we get friends registered.

Put up your NNI so we can get the ball rolling on that. I’ll check back in a few…we’re about to give ZombiU a shot.

Edit: Oh and I also bought a Wii U Pro controller. 80 hour battery life…how ridiculous lol.

I want to feel surprised, but I am not. ZombiU is basically a sequel to an point and click adventure game on the NES with updated FPS game play but survival horror mechanics. Some people will enjoy the novelty, others will get frustrated with it, sort of like a FPS Demon/Dark Souls in difficulty but without co-operative online gameplay, the enemy variety or fantasy setting, where your survival is the reward for playing the game not so much cool cinemas, powers or other achievements that many gamers are used to.

ZombiU is a fun yet tense game. Ammo is scarce but everytime you come across more than one Zombie at one time the risk becomes far greater if you don’t use it. If there’s 3 Zombies or more you’re dealing with then it’s high time to start using bullets. I just got to the inside of the buckingham palace and really didn’t want to use bullets and ended up getting bit for my troubles and now I have to go AAAALLLLLL THE way back there to get my stuff without dying…it’s JUST like Demon/Dark Souls. I think I’ve only managed to level up 1 of my abilities and that was with the first guy I had who has so far survived longer than anybody else. So far despite the harsh punishments I’m enjoying the game. I haven’t come across any glitches or problems yet.

Oh…and this game is DARK AS SHIT. They really want you to use the flashlight.

I fucking adore the sounds this system makes. Downloading the update and actually updating is making me feel hypnotically serene.

I like repetitive noises though.

Alright, you just sold me on this.

So I got my WiiU, first thing I did was beat Mario, tried out all the Nintendo Land games which are fun for about 5 minutes each and one thing the WiiU does which I don’t love was that regardless of what you’re doing the console is always outputting the highest resolution you set. The PS3 changes depending on the game… it’s very strange.

Also, I’m dying to see if the Wii part of WiiU is hackable. if I could transfer all my hacks to WiiU, that’d be great because it just looks better coming over digitally and being output at a higher resolution.

Wish my 3DS had the Gamepad’s speakers. I like how often they actually use them so far though.

My story has a good ending; finally got a Deluxe after following leads over a way too large area. Brought it back, installed all the patches, everything’s good to go now. Just… need to get some games for it; I got the one unclaimed Wii-U in this region, but no games were available. Whee! Also need to figure out why my old Wii component cables (Nyko brand, I believe) are only allowing 720p, I thought they were able to do 1080p per remarks from others I’d spoken with.

So far, talk of ZombiU being a ‘survival game’ has interested me. Normally I am not fond of such things, but in this one case I may give it a try and see how it goes. Also considering Mighty Switch Force (right title? The $10 downloadable game by WayForward), Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed, Mario U, etc. Perhaps Darksiders 2 as well, but I get the feeling I might be better served picking up it and the prequel on Steam instead. Either way, it’s nice having too many options in a Nintendo system launch line-up for a change, and I hope this sort of third-party support continues.

GamePad TV Remote Capability: We all knew about this. However, I don’t think most of us quite appreciate its value in trolling. It can quickly pick out the right signal for most TVs I’ve tried it on, and this… has some clever uses in messing with people. Give it a try sometime, I think you’ll be very pleased with the results (so long as they’re limited to harmless fun in confusing folks, of course)!

Also, screw target. Usually the kind of dishonesty and incompetence they showed regarding my pre-order (suffice to say I had to get it from another company entirely because target screwed up so badly) is the subject of a sitcom, not something that happens in real life!

Real cool hearing about you guys enjoying your wii u and games and glad you were able to get one red rick. Must of felt good to get the last one.

Anyone else thinking about getting NSMBU for free from old navy? I am actually thinking about it even though I won’t have the system for awhile. My girl might want some clothes from old navy and if people aren’t camping out too early then I think I will take my 3ds and chill out front untill they open at midnight. I mean spending 40 bucks to get a sixty dollar game sounds pretty good to me.

I have never been out on black Friday before and wonder how many people actually camp outside of old navy.

Extremely good. It was my absolute last chance to get one for several weeks at the earliest, given the area I live in. In light of that, I’ll put up with the technical headaches I need to sort out to get this thing working to its utmost.

As for Black Friday… it’s hard to say. Back when I was first old enough to truly understand the phenomenon, it was still pretty civil. Sure, there was a bit of line inside CompUSA, but I managed to pick up a copy of MetalTech Earthsiege (for the PC) anyway. That was a long time ago and I enjoyed it; stores had cool stuff out and the crowds were reasonable enough that you could try these things if you were willing to wait a few minutes. Very fun.

Nowadays I hear of ‘doorbuster’ sales causing crowds to literally kill one another via stampede effect. What the hell?

Sonichuman don’t take what I’m about to say seriously. And it’s me just making a joke.

But I didn’t know you where married? And you did marry Amy Rose after all.

Good shit Red Rick. Never say die!

My Wii is hacked (so I can play all the games I own without having to disk-swap), and when I went online with it by mistake and d/l’d the firmware, it just broke by Homebrew Channel(wouldn’t read to the external HD where my games were).

I can’t guarantee that you the same experience (especially since the soft modding process has changed quite a bit since I did it), although it’s hard to imagine that it would brick your Wii. You could just remove the HB channel and unplug the HD (and SD card if your set up uses one) first.

If I were to go looking for a Wii U tomorrow, would that be just about impossible to find one?

The hype is getting to me.
