The Official Toonami Thread: Fight tha powa!

Mon Colle Knights was brought over to the States by Saban Entertainment, not 4Kids.

Anyway, I just popped in and saw the latest posts. Since they’re rebooting Toonami on a budget, it’s understandable why they couldn’t reacquire any classic Toonami shows. However, I’m hoping that Toonami is successful enough for them to get more shows, such as the FUNimation version of One Piece. Now that FUNi has redubbed the series from the first episode, I’d like to see a clean slate beginning for it on American TV. If any show deserves to be given another shot as part of the new Toonami line-up, it’s One Piece.

That show was treated unjustly, even AFTER it was freed from 4Kids! Cartoon Network forced FUNi to continue editing the show to maintain consistency with the 4Kids version. Blood was erased, frames for physical blows were “flashed over,” and 4Kids name-changes and terms were shoehorned into the dialog. Meanwhile, Naruto was being allowed to show more and more explicit material during the course of its run… And people STILL bitched about how horribly it was being butchered!

With that said, I don’t blame Naruto for the downfall of Toonami, I blame CN for not giving any show at the time that WASN’T Naruto a fair shot.

There’s also something else that led to Toonami’s downfall…

Oh, yes… The abomination that took over half of the programming block, forcing Toonami to be condensed into two hours (back-to-back Naruto and whatever leftovers they threw at us)… The abomination that made me renounce the channel that I used to love so much before it became dead to me… The abomination that just makes me nauseous at the mere THOUGHT of its existence…

CN REAL!!!

What the FUCK were they thinking with that shit?!

Sorry for bringing THAT up, it’s just that I’m still bitter about the sorry state Toonami wound up in before they pulled the plug. No grand finale, no retrospective of all the awesome shows that they gave us over the years, no nothing! All we got was Tom going, “Sorry guys, it’s over… Bang.” As happy as I am to hear that they’re bringing it back, it pisses me off that it never should have gone away in the first place.

IRC, the funi dub that aired on CN was uncut. i wish i had pyhsical evidence on this, but i don’t because its broadcast is more than 4 years old.

It wasn’t really so much Naruto that was Toonami’s downfall, it was the fact that Toonami leaned entirely too heavily on the program to try to make it into the next DBZ. The problem with that was that DBZ actually had great support programs to go with it so that even when the show was hitting its low points throughout the series the block still had other shows to go with it. I remember most of the lineup of shows that DBZ was with during its run but I barely remember the lineup while Naruto was doing it’s thing.

lmao, not the real problem^ toonami died to a number of reasons, but the biggest driving force behind its cancellation is stuart synder and his efforts to revamp CN into a carbon copy of Nick. it’s been rumoured that synder said he hated anime, which explains the exclusion of non-toyetic anime in CN’s post 2007 line up and replaced it with shitty Canadian cartoons.

Yeah, it was uncut… If you lived in Australia, that is. As you probably know, when CN pulled OP off the air in the US, it was in the middle of the Skypiea saga. However, the CN Australia run of OP continued past the US cut-off point, except the “lost episodes” were not being censored or edited at all. The blood, swearing, correct names, and terms were all there. It stopped with the crew’s departure from Skypiea because FUNi had not yet dubbed the G8 filler arc at that point.

Wait Casshern Sins is on going to be on Toonami? Holy shit man! I was just thinking about what kind of new show would fit into the new Toonami broadcast and this very show crossed my mind. If the english voices don’t suck then I can see this show doing very well, despite how slow it starts out.

Don’t know if I really want Toonami back. When it was fresh, I loved Toonami because the shows you could only catch during their block. DBZ, Tenchi, Gundam, Outlaw Star were all amazing in a world with limited avaliablility. Today, with everything available on the net, I don’t see how it’ll be the same. Hopefully Toonami’s program selection and promos remain top notch.

If I like any of the shows, I’m just going end up finding them later because I don’t want to wait a week to see episode 2 :frowning:

On April Fools, it was cool because it was gone for so long and it hit that nostalgia spot with the shows they had.

Yeah im not really interested ib dubbed anime tbh

i don’t know how many times i have to repeat this but, the new Toonami isn’t a full fledged resurrection of the block you all know and love down to the smallest detail. the new Toonami is just a rebranding of Adult Swim’s action block; rightfully so since the bumps on saturday night suck ass.

the viewers’ choice dictates the fate of this block, here’s what they are:

  1. you can protest and not watch the block on 5/26 because they didn’t bring back the classics, thus making the block die out

or

  1. you can show your support by watching the block - even if you dislike the shows, just leave the tv on - thus making toonami bigger and better which means you’ll get the chance to see the classic shows.

a bunch of whiny manchildren in here, god-fucking damn.

If Toonami becomes successful, then it will probably be networked everywhere.

Toonami On Demand for us Time Warner customers, Toonami on Hulu, Toonami on Netflix, Toonami on Boomerang (lol), etc. etc. This could just as easily not happen, but it could also end up being bigger and better than the old Toonami. Whatever happens, we gotta watch it. These first few showings are incredibly crucial. Tell all your boys about this guys.

The reason no one watches the action block anymore is because the anime that is played either sucks or can be found else where on demand in japanese the way its meant to be be seen. Back when it was the only known source (i mean back when we were all in elementary school) it was useful now its just bad dubbed anime.

Not everyone prefers to watch subbed anime though; especially the general viewers that adult swim generates. I can watch subbed anime at Crunchyroll legally if I wished, Alot of people get turned off from having to read subtitles during a show real talk.

holy crap. they’re NOT playing subbed anime on cable television? call the fucking cops, this is a crime against anime

If you can’t read and watch then I guess you have a mental deficiency…

the funny thing is that i rarely watch dubs. it’s just that you think that any american channel would play programming that has subtitles. even when HBO plays crouching tiger, hidden dragon, they play the english dub.

Spoiler

dubs aren’t even as bad as you think. just because they aren’t your glorious 日本 language doesn’t mean one can’t be 凄い.

just saying.

Sub gets annoying, a good dub is pretty fun to watch. You get some pretty unique voice types you can’t ever recognize in japanese.

And TOM… He will make you watch 4kids one piece, just cause he’s tom…

lol thats not the point… its the audience your trying to attract on cable television. Subbed anime would be alienating the general audience to cater to anime fans. Anime fans alone won’t keep things afloat. Honestly if your having people who watch Boondocks,Family guy,or Robot Chicken for example and and then suddenly forcing them to listen to something in a different language its a turn off. If you don’t understand this then look who really does have the “mental deficiency”

I don’t want this thread to turn into a huge argument. Lets get back to suggesting shows and living in nostalgia.

Air this as well.

Any mech anime they can air to fill the gundam void?

The only dubs I find decent are Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and DBZ.
