I think it’s more of the “cash on hand” aspect that gets me. Just charge it to the countries. If they don’t pay up then they can’t play in the next Olympics, or they forfeit something or other. That’s the kind of stuff that should be done behind the scenes.

One of the comments on their nailed it when it comes to the retouching business. So many freakin’ people look at the photos and make ridiculous demands and requests in a limited amount of time and about six hours before the deadline, they make even more.
I felt more like Dr. Frankenstein than a retoucher because I spent a lot of time clipping and pasting body parts from other photos (sometimes they were from a completely different person!) and somehow tried to graph, warp, skew, smudge, etc them to another another photo. Group shots were the worst.
Depending on who you work for, artistic integrity doesn’t last long in that biz and it’s usually reflected in the finished product. I personally worked for a small time modeling and marketing firm, I couldn’t imagine how bad it is with the bigger fish.
Having said that, there was no reason for that soccer player to be so plastic looking unless she had really REALLY bad skin, but even that’s a weak excuse or if it’s just one retoucher working with hundreds of other photos.
