This is my first tales game and im really enjoying it. I just wanted to know does changing your characters title like Yuri has “downtown boy” and i think “swordsman” Do they trigger certain events or anything?
Yeah, game is too beast. It’s been so long since I’ve played and RPG were I’ve literally lost fucking track of time. I must’ve gone a enough hours without eating on my free day today without even realizing it.
I’m not sure how the titles are working in this game, but if plays out the same way there are special titles that allow for costumes changes, but that’s about it.
I like all the characters, but man, that boss fight that was in the demo (and now the real game) was rough as FUCK
Yeah, no kidding I leveled to like 18 before I felt confident.
man, if i’m not working or sleeping, i’m playing this damn game. Its toooo good. Tales games ftw, seriously
online co-op, also?
No, there is none of that. But I can see some great co-op things happening with all the artes in this game. Just thinking of some of the multi-hitting artes and then mages that can hurl monsters into the air and then air combo skills. Oh, the possibilities.
I swear you can just translate everything Repede says to Estelle (and just about anyone else) as, “Bitch please”
Game is badass so far. Never did get to finish Abyss and I skipped Legendia so this is the first Tales game I’ve gotten into since Symphonia.
Does it seem like there are plenty of sidequests to do?
the title may affect the stats in some way, or have other little quirks like in abyss where guy’s pilot costume allows the albiore to .reach maximum speed faster…and the game takes about 3-4 more hours to complete than abyss (without grade enhancements of course…with them it is very possible to complete the game in 15 hours or less while skipping cutscenes…)
Played Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World at PAX.
BAD NEWS #1: Namco is not bringing back all of the original voice cast. Some voices are returning: Genis and Raine in the demo sound like they did before. But given the new voice that Lloyd has in both Radiant Mythology and Soul Calibur Legends, thats probably the voice actor wholl be voicing him. And he does a fine job and all, but hes no Teen Titans Robin.
BAD NEWS #2: According to the Namco rep, there is no Classic Controller or GameCube controller support. The game must be played with Wiimote and nunchuk (and multiplayer requires multiple sets of the two devices). When the Namco rep saw visible dissatisfaction on my part, however, he quickly packpedaled and said that he wasnt sure. I should check the website, he told me. Bah.
BAD NEWS #3: The demo dungeon is full of puzzles. My biggest problem with Symphonia was the FLOOD of puzzle dungeons all throughout the game.
BAD NEWS #4: The dialog, while well spoken from what little I heard, is typical Tales fodder involving abstract ideallism and sexual tension that will no doubt span the opening minute to the closing scene. Of course, Symphonia had shitty moments too but had an overall decent story. Same with Abyss for the most part.
GOOD NEWS #1: FREE RUNNING IS IN. This should be self-explanatory.
GOOD NEWS #2: AIR COMBOS. I managed to land a 7-hit ground-to-air combo with normal hits ALONE, and tack a special on at the end. The up+A attack on the ground launches, and you can hold up to follow. The A button, by itself or with directions, will add air combo hits. It was pretty flashy and fun.
GOOD NEWS #3: FULLY-VOICED SKITS. The Namco rep quite proudly told me that Namco is taking both Vesperia and Symphonia 2 quite seriously as far as the English versions go, and that both games are getting top-notch voice direction and fully-voiced skits (indeed I sampled a few in the demo I played).
MISC:. The demo party was main dude, main chick, Genis, Raine, some talking wolf dude, and a few more underneath that I didnt think to scoll down to check (still shaking off yesterdays grog). The presentation is very slick, the voice acting well done, and the combat fun (other than being stuck with a shitty Wiimote + nunchuk combo). You can use the Wiimote to aim the Sorcerers Ring out of combat, which is handy but better NOT be why other control methods are potentially excluded.
VERDICT: The negatives are more apparent than the positives and Im rather worried at this point. I will no doubt get it but lately, the only reason to get Tales games is the coop multiplayer. I have high hopes for Vesperia to be more worthwhile than just that based on reviews and SRK’s impressions. I’m concerned about Symphonia 2.
I don’t know why people shit on the story in the tales games? Abyss was great, and Vesperia is really good so far too (even if it took a while to get started). But I might be biased because the characters are just so awesome.
Game is easy after that horrible boss. I haven’t died again since then. I guess they give you enough options after that point to stay alive and kicking?
No kidding. Asshole was getting an overlimit every 4 seconds. Guess I didn’t use the flowers enough. Whatever, he’s dead anyway so screw him.
And I’m getting so sick of that goddamn, “here comes the clowns” music that comes on every time something remotely silly happens. I suppose it’s good that the worst thing about this game I can think of is one particular track, but seriously…fuck that song.
Just started playing again after quick trip from the US. Rita has a cat-maid outfit.
Knew about #1. Doesn’t bother me that much, because it was the actor (in the case of Lloyd) that refused to reprise the role, not Bamco being lazy or anything. So he’s the douche.
Don’t give a fuck about #2. I fully expected the game to be played with Wiimote and Nunchuck, that’s the console’s “default” controller. You should be happy it’s not waving the damn thing around like a raver with a pair of glow sticks, which if it is I agree that it sucks. If it isn’t and you just use it like a standard controller, then re-read the first sentence in the paragraph.
Now if you want to talk downsides, point and click World Map and monster raising come to mind. But other than that I’m hyped for this game just like I was for Vesperia (I say was since I’m now playing and loving it). On the topic of Vesperia, Yuri is a total badass, and Rita is damn annoying. I also really wish the Over Limit was separate instead of one bar, that’s wack.
^ I should be happy because it could have been worse? Perhaps. Or I could just not buy a game that refuses to include an option that makes no sense to exclude.
I just picked this up today. Played it for an hour or so. Game looks nice, the voice acting seems good, the characters seem a lot better than Abyss. Had to switch the keys though, I do not understand why they’d change the usual key settings just because it’s a new console.
Yeah, I tried to deal with the new inputs, but it honestly didn’t fly and a few hours in I changed them to something that felt less dumb.
I’m still not understanding the story-hate in reviews.
Truth.
Anyway, Vesperia is fucking amazing. Characters are awesome (except for Rita who’s just an over the top caricature), the story’s good and actually kinda dark, and the battles are great.
an event that happens about halfway in
[details=Spoiler]Yuri in particular is the shit. My jaw dropped when he merced not one but TWO motherfuckers in completely cold, serial killer-esque fashion. Especially Cumore, Yuri just sat there and watched his ass get buried in quicksand, while a rope sat right next to his feet.
Also, he’s not a moron like most RPG heroes, and his fighting style is pretty sweet.[/details]
Rita is the tsundere character. =)
