With the Japanese release coming out in August, doesn’t that mean the NA release at earliest will come out in winter or is it a world wide release?
Does anyone read the Tales of the Abyss manga? How often does the next chapter come out?
Man, I picked up Tales of the Abyss recently and now I’m stuck at Chorral Castle. The game locks up everytime I enter the place. Apparently, it’s caused by the PS3…so now my options are to either get the memory card adapter and continue playing the game with my PS2, or wait for a patch from Sony. Or maybe I should just return the game…
The only tales games I’ve played is Phantasia, which I loved. Which other games are worth playing?
…Dhaos’s castle is a bitch.
Symphonia is good, not really storywise but it was my gateway for the series.
Tales of Destiny, Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of the Abyss are all amazing. Tales of Destiny is pretty old schooly though, so keep that in mind
legendia sucks
abyss is hella fun.
Choral Castle is still early, I’d just switch to the PS2 and replay the first few hours. At least…I think it was at the beginning. It’s maybe 6 hours in at most, I guess that is kind of a lot.
I got bored of Abyss. The characters were all assholes. And there wasn’t much variance in playstyle, all the chars pretty much played exactly the same.
I played it on the difficulty just before unknown. I had had it on unknown actually, but it took me something like 2-3 hours to kill a boss because I could do no damage to it, and obviously it wasn’t able to kill me. I’m not sure what the difference is besides just giving enemies stupid amounts of defense and HP. They get more attacks compared to hard and normal on very hard (or whatever the level before unknown is) so that’s enough for me. Once I got the coliseum weapons for every character it was a little better though admittedly. But before you get them, you just don’t do much damage at all. And after you get them, it still doesn’t make much difference because as I said all it does is lengthen fights as far as I can tell.
The most fun battle is the coliseum special battle against the 4 previous tales heroes. They revive themselves and stuff, so you have to figure out an order to take them out, and plan ahead as well.
Too bad this game didn’t have a boss rush mode, especially in arena. I’d probably have just played that a few times more. Star Ocean 3 had a really fun team battle ranking game, I think that would incorporate really well in the Tales games as well.
Man it’s too bad this doesn’t have online play. It’d be fun to just get a group together and just play the game, just chilling while playing it. You could give each other instructions too obviously. Like: Alpha heal us! Hatred put on the revive spell! I’ll decoy, run around the back! Haha that’d just be funny.
I looooooooooooooathed Abyss.
Hated the story and the characters were unbearable to me. I liked two characters. Guy and Jade.
Is there any coincidence that both characters were voiced by two of pretty much THE most out there and popular English Voice Actors?
Just made a Japanese Xbox Live account.
That Tales of Vesperia demo is nowhere to be found. All I found and downloaded was a ToV video.
EDIT
Nevermind I found it. Bout to try this shit out in a few
Alright just played ToV.
From my impressions looks like it will be a whole lot better than Tales of the Abyss was for me. The main guy attacks kind of weird. I would say almost slow. I hate how he flips his sword up inbetween attacking.
His Specials come out pretty quick though, but of course he does that little sword flip once it is all over.
Even if it turns out he isn’t good as a Regular, he seems like he’s more likable than Luke was, so at least I won’t have a headache listening to him.
Legendia is ass. Moving around takes forever, the character designs suck ass, the battle are boring(feels like you can button mash), the moves are boring. Hell Legendia has ZERO good points about it.
I hated Luke. He bitched way too much. What the hell is with him and showing his stomach like that? And then his entire team shitted on him. What he should have done was up and just left the team. Just say screw it, I’m out. And then we find out about the real Luke. I hated most of the cast anyway. Music was pretty bad too. I didn’t make it to lvl.30 before I quit. A first in a Tales game.
Hey guys, I thought I’d share this wonderful piece of information with you. I’m looking forward to Vesperia.
Even moreso now that the Asian English release is also coming in August.
are you guys crazy!?! symphonia was beautiful! i have never been so into the story of a game.
btw, update for symphonia 2–> im playing through right now on the japanese version. for those of you who played the first one, get ready for a story flip. battle system is basically the same, but the wii controls are good, so no problems there. actually, the ability to unlock from an enemy and free run is greatly welcomed, however, large combo chains are almost impossible without another player(the highest i have gotten with one person is only 22). and the game has all of the funny cutscenes that the last one did. also, this one does feature a bitchy main charactor, but they fix that quickly, so dont stop playing just because of that(fixed in the first hour or 2)
Legendia blows. Senel is fucking cool, though.
And I thought Luke was a great character, I’ll explain why:
Abyss storyline
[details=Spoiler]Luke was funny when he was a bastard, then he gets neutered by Tear and fucking Jade and becomes their little puppet bitch until the part at the Tower of Rem when he decided, “You know what, fuck this” and finally starts to think for himself. He goes through so much change during the story, from being manipulated by Van, to being essentially manipulated by his group, to becoming his own man and settling up with his issues, the Asch stuff, all of it.
Speaking of his party, that shit bugged the hell out of me…his party got on him for “listening to Van” who he was taught by and looked up to his ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE instead of listening to motherfuckers he met what, a week ago? The only ones who weren’t bitch-assed were Tear (who allowed him to prove he could change after Akzeriuth) and Guy (who punked out Natalia and the rest of the clowns and went back for Luke).
Jade’s an asshole (though funny), Natalia’s a goddamn traitor who dropped Luke as soon as she found out he wasn’t the “real” one, and Anise is a fucking hypocrite who did WORSE shit than Luke did and yet was bitching the loudest at him. Fuck them. At least Natalia realizes she was a bitch and apologizes.[/details]
The Tales games are amazing, except Legendia, which, as previously mentioned, blows massive amount of ass and is almost unplayable, if you’re expecting the same quality as the other Tales games.
Imo, Abyss > Eternia > Symphonia > Destiny > Phantasia. From what I read, Rebirth and the new Remake of Destiny are suppose to be amazing, much better than any of the other Tales games.
Don’t know why people couldn’t go through Abyss. I play Tales games for the gameplay, and Abyss is far away the best of the NA released Tales games. The story obviously shouldn’t be your top priority, considering its a freakin Tales games and not an FF. You don’t play Star Ocean for the story either. Give Abyss another try, the Battle system and gameplay are both crazy fun.
Edit: I forgot Tales of the World on PSP. Game is repetitive as fuck, but it’s pure fan service for people who love the series (like me) and have to play every single Tales games. Expect minimal story, and gigantic grind-fest.
That’s why hated Luke’s team. Most of them are a bunch of assholes who he should have left and sided with Van.
Man I have no idea what you’re talking about. Abyss gameplay is too much like Symphonia’s. Waaaayyyy too much alike. The way the game feels and plays feels the same. I’m sitting knowing I’m playing Abyss but feel like I’m playing Symphonia.
One thing I’ve always hated was how when you hit someone in battle it feels like you’re hitting air. So lifeless.
And it’s odd I’m complaining about the gameplay when I play fighters that feature mostly the same gameplay i.e. GGXX->GGXXAC.
I thought the FOF implementation in Abyss was a cool addition.
Oh sup, a tales thread. subscribe
Gonna be playing Tales of the Abyss very soon.
Oh and I may buy a 360, one of the reasons being for Vesperia.
Abyss’s battle system is way more fun than Symphonia’s on Free Run alone. It’s also faster and has a better special attack linking system (Base Arte -> Arcane Arte as opposed to lv.1-3 techs).
