beat the main arc just now on hard, pretty sure i did a bad job cause it took me all my life bottles 10 elixir’s and 2 hourglass’s.
i don’t even mind how bad the story is in this game because i didn’t expect anythng much, it’s the writing that just sucks massive balls. i watch vesperia’s skits constantly because even though the story declied halfway through part 2, there are lot of genuinely clever and funny things in the dialogu despite it. also vesperia dub >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> graces dub.
Symphonia and Vesperia are two of my favorite games of all time, but Graces f was such a disappointment to me that after beating it and playing halfway through the future arc, I promptly sold it and deleted my save datas. I hated the story, but the ending is what pushed me over the edge.
I’m still really looking forward to Xillia though.
True story, I remember I used to be a mod for that site in the early days of the site when it was just 5-10 people back in 2006, but then life became busy for me as I entered high school and I stopped going as a result. However I made topic saying I came back but then didn’t for some reason. They all think I’m dead by now since I used a different username back then and I obviously lost my mod powers there due to being AWOL but then again I barely did shit haha. Anyway I’m glad to see how big the site has grown.
Whoever decided to think that it was a good idea to put in a mechanic that puts slow debuff 100% of the time during fights should be shot. That removes like fucking all damage mitigation on top of any positioning strategy into just item spamming life bottles and gels.
Wow some serious ToGf hate in this thread. I mean the game has its flaws but all of the Tales games do. It seems like everyone is immediately just talking about how ToS , ToTa , insert other tales game here is better than this one.
I have to say I really like ToGf so far. I have been playing on the hardest difficulty availible to me when I get them and it is providing a fun and interesting challenge. Yeah the AI does stupid shit sometimes but thats a problem in a lot of them (not NEARLY as bad as fucking Xillia’s ai btw).
Tales of Symphonia is outdated compared to the newer Tales games and it feels weird to be so restrictive in both combos and movement. Also unlike the newer games a lot of the characters are pigeonholed into one single role. Raine was a healer and only a healer (compared to say Tear, or Cheria).
Abyss was great (probably my favorite of the localized Tales) however that game was too easy even on the hardest difficulty once you figured it out mostly due to every character having access to free run + glory which were ungodly OP.
Legendia and ToS2 sucked dick so at least Graces was a whole lot better than those.
Vesperia was fun but that game was so broken and unbalanced that you had to restrict yourself in order to have fun. Every single fight in Vesperia (360 ver) could be beaten with Ovl + tidal wave/meteor storm and you gained overlimit and mp from doing so.
Xillia was fun and challenging however (as others stated earlier in the thread) it felt unfinished and the AI was fucking awful. Also there were not nearly enough link artes for any non Milla/Jude combo (especially not enough spell link artes…) which was disappointing. However Link Arte chains were still a blast to do.
Tales of Destiny DC however is the best game I have ever played in my life. I really cannot think of any real problems I have with this game. Combat was beautiful and fluid and the AI was freaking sick at that game. Seriously if you are a Tales fan and haven’t played this game do yourself a huge favor and import this.
I love the older Tales games too but I am well aware of there flaws and I think that Graces is a great addition to the series. Also I focus much more on combat than anything else so I tend to not care whether the stories suck I just kind of go with it.

Graphics are forgiveable since it is a wii game, but there are way too many bad design decisions or things they just fucked up with. For a remastered $60 game (that I’m sure japan paid even more for) it is disgusting.
I hope you’re just talking about the battle system. Story was good but the one thing I enjoyed the most was the cast.
Anyway I must give honorable mention to Tales of Destiny 2 (the real one obviously) for being one of the most beautiful 2D Tales games ever, until ToDR took over that mantle. Even Rebirth was in 2D and a newer game than ToD2, but the battle system, speed, and colorful visuals were subpar compared to ToD2.
Yeah that makes sense. I said in my post how all I really care about when it comes to the Tales games is the combat so I am able to forgive a lot of the game being bad as long as I have fun with the battle system.
As far as Legendia is concerned yeah I was talking about the battle system being terrible. I didn’t really care for the story either. However the soundtrack was spectacular for that game. Easily my favorite part of Legendia.

I just got to Kurt last night, and died a few times, right before going to bed.
This afternoon, I popped the game back in, changed back to my standard party of Assmell, Sophie, Cheria, and Malik, made a couple of changes, and effectively curb-stomped him with zero trouble on moderate.
Assmell was rolling with straight Infernal Torrent the entire match, and sniping the adds into flames, as Cheria healed and shot stuff, Sophie tanked and healed, and Malik tossed his Pimp-O-Rang around like he jus’ don’ care.
Maybe I made a ton of good calls, but it was a lot easier than I’d heard.
that is the best overall party in this game. having such a buff sorcerer like malik makes pascal kind of pointless, and the sophie is such a good combat medic, i use cheria for offensive magic more often than healing.
and anything other than hard is way too easy imo. hard is just the right for a challenge that isnt too frustrating or having to grind ridiculously
also i never got infernal torrent, what titles gives that to you?
I guess I should try malik for a while? I’ve been using pascal the whole game, and until cheria got divine saber she was putting in the most work (the fire elemental spell is the shit).
Indignation is my favorite spell of all time, but I’m not liking the version in this game. AOE and damage are massive as always, but the knockdown it causes interrupts my combos too often, and asbel on has one move that scoops afaik, dragon dash. Trying to get that 100+ combo but that shit won’t ping!
malik is godlike, culling flare my spell of choice to spam, it makes extending combos hella easy, burning strike is good but pushes people too far away from you sometimes.
i like indignation too, but divine saber is just too useful. not worth the cool factor.
Yeah, divine saber is good as fuuuuuuuck holy shit. I fucking love Cheria, sometimes there is one divine saber going and immediately another one triggers and I just let out this little sigh of happiness.
Getting raped in the 10th floor of Zhonecage. Not sure what the fuck to do besides grind and dualize my gear even then I don’t think that shit is gonna help at all. The damage and zerg those mobs do is 100x more than the floor before it.
Is it just me or is Asbel the worst character? I played through the entire game with him, but now I’m doing the master battles thing and having to use other people. At this point in the game (end game), everyone just seems flat-out better than Asbel in their movesets and his stats are the lowest out of everyone I have. The only good move he has is infernal torrent, but it isn’t that amazing.
I’ve been balancing three Tales games so far (Vesperia for a third time because that’s my favorite Tales so far, Abyss and Graces f, which I’m doing a playthrough of it on my channel). I, for one, can’t wait for Xillia to be released.
