I made it to the final dungeon today. So far I’ve made through the entire game without getting any help with the puzzles/mazes, but this last one looks like it’s going to be a doozy…
I finished the game last night @ lv 62 & 43 hrs. My main party is Yuri/Judith/Estelle/Rita. It’s easily as good as symphonia and I’d say the best rpg of the next-gen systems.
I’ve got a few questions though:
questions
Spoiler
Who was Repede’s previous owner?
What race are Alexi/Duke? They don’t look human or Kritiyan…
As far as music in the Tales games, my favorite song is still the Derris Kharlan song from symphonia
Those are part of the plethora of questions to go unanswered.
Vesperia’s decent, but it’s no Mass Effect. And that’s fine and all, but it’s hardly even a stellar RPG, let alone a generation’s best.
I too love the Kharlan songs (all four of them). Most of the rest of the Symphonia score was something of a disappointment. Both Last Battle themes were pretty good, as was the ONE boss theme that rarely plays (it played for the first boss with Lloyd and Genis, the first dude you fight with four people, and then only again in disc 2 somewhere).
I’m only a couple hours in, and i disagree whole heartily. Unless it takes a drastic turn for the worst its one of the better RPG’s period. And its Def one of the best in the last 3 years.

[details=Spoiler]- They never tell you who Repede’s former owner was. Just that Yuri and Flynn found him when they were younger, took care of him when he was injured, and now he considers them his owners.
- Alexei and Duke were human, just unique looking. Duke didn’t align himself with humans though because the Empire fucked over the Entelexeia (one of whom was his best friend) back in the days of the Great War, right after they along with Duke ended the war.[/details]
Now see, I fucking hate Mass Effect and love this game, so it’s a matter of opinion.
I kinda wish free run was always on and that I had a JUMP button. I appreciate Tales’s roots and I’ve adapted to the awkwardness of a 3D battlefield with 2D fighting game mechanics… but it still would feel way better with free move and a jump button. To me, anyway.
Agreed: what you like and dislike is a matter of opinion. That I love Mass Effect is an opinion. But my last post was about how GOOD the game is. And yes, ultimately what you like and dislike is all relative but elements of both Vesperia and ME can be quantified and measured, and those elements can in turn be argued about and compared.
Also, it’s completely and totally possible to like a game you feel is bad, dislike a game you feel is good, or any position in between. I love–LOVE–Granstream Saga, and I feel that game is horrible; if I were to review it, even when it came out, it would have received a poor score and a recommendation of avoidance. Not that Vesperia’s horrible, but it has real flaws.
The thing is, saying Vesperia is a “less than stellar” RPG wreaks of opinion.
Vesperia is one of the best Tales games ever. Seeing as most Tales games are solid RPGs, it makes ToV a very worth RPG.
Did Destiny 2 for PSP ever get released outside of Japan? I imported the European Eternia and it plays great (despite not having multiplayer on the PSP).
… Understandable. I should have perhaps said, “by comparison Vesperia has more flaws” or something to that effect. And that’s fine: no game is perfect. Devs are human too.
So I didn’t read through the thread too much because I don’t want anything to get spoiled. I just bought the game; I played the crap out of Abyss. I like this one so far, although I do not like fighting with Yuri. I prefer to fight with Repede right now (My party is default Yuri, Estellise, Repede and Karol). Did anyone else use him? His attacks are a little weak but he is quick as hell and can easily dodge after a combo.
my copy of vesperia wont get here till tomorrow :(. this is the first true tales game i’ll play hope its good. i’ve played tales of the world radiant mythology for the psp and enjoyed it.
I used Repede a bit for Coliseum fighting. He’s fast as fuck, which is his main thing in battle. Later on you’ll get skills that allow him to recover HP/TP and make him immune to stagger (like Glory) while in Free Run, as well as a skill that lets him cancel anything into a Free Run. So the main thing with Repede is hit their ass hard then run away.
Yuri is hard as hell to get used to, but once you do he’s a goddamn beast. His best moves IMO would be Dragon Swarm, Destruction Field, Shining Fang and Ghost Wolf. He also eventually gets all 5 Super Chain skills, so he can do moves in pretty much any order.
Estelle’s actually pretty good as a fighter later on, but you have to be using her to do any of the cool stuff. She’s the exact opposite of Repede; slow as fuck but has godlike defenses so she can tank through 90% of any attacks she has thrown at her. For her, Dividing Edge is a really good move, as is Marche Waltz. Marche Waltz to Delight Roll is a great combo that actually pulls the enemy off the ground, unlike most attacks. In addition, Delight Roll gets an extra attack added onto it after 100 uses, press the attack button after the Arte comes out. Oh, and the Extra Combo skills are awesome.
vesperia is awesome
22 hours into it
i will not be reading this thread in fear of reading spoilers
i’ll check in after i beat the game
its just sad how few of the Tales games come out in Europe.
It’s sad how little of ANY game series comes out in Europe. Did you guys ever get Chrono Trigger?
I’m about 30 hours in.
Raven
Spoiler
Why don’t we get the Schwann outfit for Raven? And how the heck did he survive that? It was pretty obvious he let himself get hit at the end, but then somehow he survives anyway, and then the entire dungeon collapsing on itself, how could he survive that either. They better show me how at some point. Also after the reveal, I don’t get why he loses so much of his HP and forgets all his sword attacks. I don’t like this at all.
Still really enjoying the experience. Wish this game came out a few weeks ago though, then I’d probably be getting further by playing it all day, instead of for maybe 3 hours a day since I prefer to play Tales games with other people.
i’m glad im playing it on hard mode actually, adds a couple hours to the experience.
Raven
Spoiler
I hear you can get that outfit for him. This is how according to other people: After the Don dies go talk to President Kaufman in Torim. Then, after Zaude, go to Zaphias and speak to LeBlanc on one of the benches in the public quarter. Easy as that.
it worked that time
Actually…
Raven
[details=Spoiler]You can get the Schwann outfit, but it is missable. If you aren’t too far past that point where you fought him, here’s how you get it…
-
As soon as you’re able, head to Dahngrest and go into the Union HQ. There a scene will trigger that will prompt you to find Kaufman (the pink haired woman in the Guy Cecil outfit, blatant TotA homage there). Go to Capua Torim and enter the Fortune’s Market HQ.
-
After Zaude (an area you have to go to a bit after this point) is cleared, head to Zaphias’ Public Quarter and talk to Leblanc (Raven’s subordinate) sitting on a bench. You’ll then get the “Imperial Knights Captain” title, which gives him the Schwann gear. And looks totally badass.
As for why he survives all that, it’s because unless that blastia deactivates, he’s effectively immortal. His body is superhuman (despite all his nagging, lol) so it takes a LOT to actually kill him. And when he “forgets” his sword Artes, he really doesn’t. If you have the Change Style 2 skill set, a lot of his Artes will change to variants of the techniques he uses as Schwann.[/details]
The previous poster got it down too, but do keep in mind that the “item” in question is missable.
