The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

Wait you guys get a SPD? sooo…the wii version doesn’t get empire city, a daytime africa stage or half the moves for the hog?

As for the sonic dash comment, I was being sarcastic, but it backfired lol. Yeah I love Sonic Rush, not the greatest for platforming but sometimes I just want to run fast to funky breakbeat music.

Actually, the 360 version has 3 Acts for Day and Night on each stage (so six levels per location).

Well now I’m definately buying the 360 or ps3 version.

Wait wait wait wait WAIT.

You’re saying we dont get Empire City? I saw the trailer for it and I was made hype. Now I have to wait for the PS3 version now. Damn. =/

Unless its an unlockable we don’t get it. I’m at the final boss and no empire city.

It says on the official website, that Empire City and Mizuri are 360/PS3 exclusive.

Just beat it…one in your eye Dark Gaia! Oh man that rocked!

I’m really curious to know how the 360 and ps3 versions play in comparison to the wii version now with all the stuff that the other 2 version have in comparison. Wii version is great but I’m probably gonna end up owning both. I also think I favor the way how the boost system works in the 360/ps3 versions a bit more as well since its more rush like and not limited to blocks…You can boost a little bit and then put it out as little or as much as you want. So what’s the verdict so far guys? Have reviewers been a bit too harsh towards this game or are they on the money?

Edit:
NO SPOILERS ON LAST BOSS! I haven’t got there yet but the way you’re talking about it sounds hype. Is the last track that plays in the Tier of Live and Learn and What I’m Made Of?

Easily in that tier. My hair stood on end the whole time when that music played. I won’t divulge anything about the boss until you get there. I think they were too harsh on the game, i give it an 8.5. Its got flaws but its got alot going for it to make you want to come back for more.

The 360 and Wii versions play almost the same as far as I know, but I do not own both. Here are the major differences that I know:

  1. Empire City and Mizuri (except for cutscenes and a boss) are cut from Wii.
  2. In Wii, Sonic has 1 Act per location (with the exception of the first), and in 360 he has 3 Acts per location (at the very least, this is true for the first five locations…I haven’t gotten further than that).
  3. The Acts are designed differently because Dimps did the Wii Acts and Sonic Team did the 360 Acts.
  4. The 360 version has longer levels due to Hedgehog Engine+disc size.
  5. The 360 version has playable Town Hubs instead of menus.
  6. The 360 version sometimes has slight frame drops during the Werehog levels. They are not significant, and don’t effect gameplay.

I think that the reviewers were not too harsh, but were looking at the game wrong. Their main complaint is that the Werehog is NOT Sonic, and this is true. Regardless of that, the Werehog levels are fun; the game is fun…but the reviewers wanted all speed all the time. Also, the reviewers automatically reduce the score because of the Town Hub system…they hate those things.

Personally, I’d give the game an 8.5 out of 10. A.K.A. a B+

EDIT: Also, remember that the reviewers gave the 360 version a lower score.

^ yeah they don’t like the hub system…which may be one of the reasons the wii version got mostly a slightly better praise than the others.

Is there a Demo out on the 360 market place yet for this thing?

I played Chaotix again last night thinking “hm, maybe I was a little too harsh on it the first time through”. and you know what? it is still ass.
I understood the whole elastic ring mechanic a little better the second time around but its still annoying as hell. if I jump on a spring they should follow me no matter what instead of whipping me back and fourth in mid air, god forbid I try to jump somewhere in a game that requires jumping. if your partner just stayed right next to you no matter what and could only go places when you were the one in control of what happens then it would be a great game. but its just too, uhh, chaotic to be enjoyable with its fucked up physics.

the music is nice though. and its pretty.
the special stages are fun too.

I think that “Chaotix” is underrated and has a high learning curve. It takes a lot of patience to master that elastic ring system…I’ve never done it. An experimental game…on an experimental platform that barely anybody owned, Sega had nothing to lose by bringing it out. Yet it is probably amongst the Top 3 most sought-after 32X titles, and it’s flagship platformer IMO.

Yeah, the graphics really are great. They blow away Sonic 1-3&K and Sonic CD’s graphics. Music’s fine too.

After you beat the game; is there a stage select for replaying stages you have beaten?

Question why I am asking is because I will want to replay the Sonic daytime stages but not so much the warehog.

I am waiting for the PS3 version to see what diffs are from the the 360 one.

You don’t have to beat the game to do that. Once you’ve got the world map you can go to any stage you’ve unlocked at any time.

thanks! then I will buy this afterall.
The ability to replay the Day-Time Sonic stages whenever I want may be worth the price.

So, yeah, i will pick this up after the PS3 versions gets released

God damn I failed so hard against egg lancer 2…X.X…I’m gonna S rank it at some point.

Edit:
Eggmanland raped me on the first try…X.X It’s entirely too late for me to be reacting to stuff like that lol I’m gonna go to bed and tackle that stage another time.

I got an S Rank against him but the quick time events kept fucking me up. God damn I hate the classic controller layout so much, I’d use my GC controller but the cord is all of 1 ft. long lol. Remember that holding forward when hes in front of you will put you at a disadvantage, took me a while to figure that out.

I’ll drink to that.

Chaotix is lots and lots of fun. It’s got some uninspired level design, but the game otherwise is awesome. Especially on the boss fight side- I loved the final battle, especially coming to it right after finishing Sonic Heroes XD.

Yeah, Chaotix had some great bosses and music. And Vector immediately became one of my favorite characters of the series too. I agree that the level design is somewhat weak, but the ring bungie was a novel idea and has some powerful applications when you learn to use it right.
