I’m around. What you want me to put in the first post?

after cross up
if your JUST gonna block string
clp clp clk slk cmk fireball
Can anyone tell me why Evil Ryu isn’t in this game? Maybe I got the timeline backwards or something, but howcome they show Evil Ryu during Akuma’s intro video?
What’s an easier link combo during Focus Stun or Dizzy for you guys IYO: C.LP, C.HP or C.MP, C.HP?
i like cr. MP, cr. HP
it just feels so right
cr.MP, cr.HP deals more damage, so it’s a preferable combo to use.
But if the opponent is dizzy, I personally like the Towards + HP, cr.LP, cr.HP xx Tatsu combo.
it is actually possible to do Towards - HP, cr.MP, cr.HP xx Tatsu, but the timing is very strict.
I’ve been using C.LP, C.HP because the timing seems to be fairly easy, but I want to do as much damage as possible in my combos so I was thinking about switching. Problem is, I can’t afford a system/game right now to practice.
So how hard is that C.MP, C.HP link compared to C.LP,C.HP?
i can edit my post just pm me the stuff you want to add, and i will do so.
at the same time can we request a sticky from the mods? this is probably one of the few actually useful Ryu threads and I think it deserves to be up on the first page.
a question though, i’ve noticed in the 30 odd vids of daigo that he never does j.mk cross up. maybe like once in all 30 vids. Why is this? i’m asking because i’ve been netting alot of wins with simple j.mk cross ups into c.mk xx ex hurricane kick. and yeah it doesn’t work all the time. but it’s a good option, no?
j.mk only works rarely with proffessionals… and also depending on the opponant your playing.
i would rarely do it against another char who can do something like a srk. coz ill be punish like hell if it turns out wrong.
much more safer to just poke out the dmg.
Actually the two links (c.lp c.hp or c.mp, c.hp) are equally difficult. Both are 2 frame links (c.lp and cr.mp are both +5 on hit, c.fp comes out in 4). The only difference is that c.mp is a bit slower, so you simply have to wait a bit longer.
In terms of actual difficulty, the window for connecting the link is exactly the same. You just have to practice mp -> hp if you want to use it.
Thanks for the info. Do you also know the window for linking a C.LP after a Dashing FP?
i hear you dude. but it’s a cross up. if done correct you can’t really srk through that shit.
what i’m wondering is why doesn’t daigo go for the crossups and well, ‘press the advantage’?
Is is necessary to use, though? The range increase doesn’t seem enough to warrant using it.
Pressing the advantage is very difficult to do (especially with Ryu) in this game mainly because of the fact that there are so many options for reversals…half the cast has a safe way to mash on DP during your string, and BAM all of a sudden your eating 15% and now YOUR getting pressed on.
Daigo relies on his instinctual play to get damage…things like reading the players habits and tendencies, knowing how they react in certain situations, etc. He gains damage through baiting and setting his opponent up. With strong reaction play, and smart analytics, Daigo completes the puzzle with playing towards the opponents instincts…and shows us just why he is #1 in Japan.
I’m maining Ryu, he’s pretty solid. I don’t have a firm grasp of SF4 yet, most of the stuff I’m doing is a mix of ST and 3S.
One question -
Against any decent player, I have trouble deciding what to do at 2/3 screen length.
At full screen, I can throw fireballs. Half screen I can wait/bait jumps/blockstring into fireball. Close, I do blockstrings into fireball.
But when guys play continuously at 2/3 screen away, I have trouble because I don’t know what to do.
This is mostly against Ken/Ryu/Sagat/Blanka.
I don’t like backing off, but that is what I end up doing most lately.
Thanks for the help.
Try throwing some fireballs at varying speeds. It will annoy the opponent and he will eventually jump towards you over a FB. Then you can get in range with you usual moves.
That’s the thing though, at 2/3 screen range I can’t throw fireballs because I won’t recover in time to dragon or block. I’ll get hit by a jump-in.
A few things I can think of, off the top of my head. You could advance and dash backwards, try to bait something depending on who you’re playing.
You could dash backwards and throw a lp hadoken, try to bait a jump.
Or you could just walk backwards and into the corner, maybe they’ll take the initiative and attempt to rush you down, then trade places with them with a cross up or throw. This is risky if your opponent knows how to zone with his/her character.
Most the time, I find myself screwing around at that range, trying to bait a jumping hk or something to focus through. It’s uncomfortable for me at that range with Ryu.
Mickey D. I would like to hear your input on Ryu vs C.Viper.
I apologize if this has been discussed before, but im not reading throught 26 pages.
Im gonna make more of an effort to revise the forums more. But after 8 years. SRk gets boring. Yet I find myself coming back.
such is life i suppose
