The Official RUMBLE FISH Strategy Thread!

Cool

TRF2 : Greed and Hazama will be unlocked by the operator. Beatrice has the best name ever, must surely be very breasty and french, and can be unlocked by doing ??? on Hazama.

All props go to Iggy from MMC.

And the article was defenitly a good read.

Oh shit! New match of TRF2 on www.ko-hatsu.com! Scroll down to near the bottom… It’s… Mito vs. Beatrice??? I saw this and was like… WTF? Hopefully she isn’t broken as a playable character then. I’ll watch it when I get home from school.

So it’s CPU vs. Human? I haven’t downloaded it yet and came to post it. And I thought they’d password unlocked her already…

New match up at http://www.ko-hatsu.com

Zen vs. Bazoo

Bazoo looks pretty interesting… but you don’t get to see much of Zen’s changes because he gets trashed pretty bad.

Ok, so it’s been a long time since a Rumble Fish update, so I felt obligated to bump this thread. First of all, 2 new match videos of TRF2 are up at www.rumblefish2.com It’s Mito vs. Sheryl and Lud vs. Aran. Lud seems pretty cool with some tackle juggles. Both of the videos feature some good jolt combos also, so check them out. Also, www.ko-hatsu.com is updated with 3 (!) new TRF2 matches. I haven’t watched them yet, so I can’t say how cool they are. It’s Beatrice vs. Hazama, Kaya vs. Zen, and Beatrice vs. Zen. Hopefully Hazama has been toned down or something.

Next, the official Dimps website of TRF2 (www.dimps.co.jp/rumblefish2/) has had a lot of updates. If you didn’t already notice from previous news and videos, Beatrice, Greed and Hazama are all confirmed as playable characters. In the ‘Secrets’ section, it tells how to unlock the 3 secret characters. Also, it gives a password to unlock Survival and Time Attack modes in the arcade. Nice. Furthermore, they opened the ‘Download’ section, but for right now, it only contains some cool wallpapers. Finally, they finished the movelists of all the characters, and added the secret character’s movesets. I’ll list all of the new moves and changes for the secret characters.

Zen:
Critical Art-

Gouraisenbu HCB, F+K >SK >SP >LK >LP >LP >LK >SP >QCB+P
Looks like Zen got some kind of Deadly Rave move. Sounds cool.

Boyd:
Offensive Art-

Super Steel Head [D], U+LP+SP
Haha… I was wondering where his old Steel Head move went. It’s nice to see that Boyd has an alternative OA to his Super Shiny Punch. In a note next to the move, it says that the OA costs 3 Offensive Guages… Must be powerful then.

Bazoo:
Offensive Art-

Scale Out HCB, HCB, F+P
With a command like that, it’s most likely a throw move.

Mito:
Offensive Art-

Tobikiri Chop (Tsumi Stance) QCB, QCB+P
This move also costs 3 Offensive guages, so it’s probably a lot more powerful than her fast (albeit weak) overhead super.

Lud:
Offensive Art-

Jet Breaker QCB, HCF+K (LK+SK 100% Heat)
The move sounds sorta like a tackle. I like his first OA, so I’m curious to see what this move is like

Defensive Art-

R.I.C.E. D,D+LK+SK (100% Heat)
Funny name. Since it always costs 100% heat, this defensive art should be pretty powerful…

Critical Art-

Final Deadly Blow HCB, HCB, F+LK+SK (100% Heat)
Wow. The people at Dimps must really love Lud. 3 Fricking extra moves??? (2 OA’s, 3 DA’s, 2 CA’s; not to mention heat versions) I really want to see what this move is like. It’s probably hella damaging. In a note next to the move, there is some mention of Guard… But it’s not a guard cancel…

Greed:
His hair is short now; click on the character profiles to see everyone’s different color costumes. He’s still ugly. Antler (Crack Shot) can be done in the air now. Gae Bolg (Parry move) can be done with LK as well as LP now. Maybe it’s a low version? New move, Ga Bou, is done with F+LP during an impact break. New OA is Ga Jark, (sp?) QCF, QCF+K. Old OA, Anvar is now Boost Dive.

Hazama: He lost his dodge counter move, Kuukasho (QCB+P). He gains a new move from Kaishin Stance, Chikatsusen, D+SK. His Boost Dive, Shoenbu, allows for him to perform new rush combos. He can go from a S attack to the other S move, back to another of the same S move. (i.e. SP>SK>SP) He can also do this with L attacks, but I think he can only branch over once. Still seems extremely powerful.

Beatrice:
I’ll just post her movelist

Rise Arc QCF+P
Dust Tail DP+P
Airy Disk QCB+K (Possible in air)
Blast Arc HCB+P
Limitless HCF+K

Offensive Art
Arc Flare QCF, QCF+P

Defensive Art
Brink Overfamt B, HCB+K (Guard Cancel)

Critical Art
Zenith Arc QCB, F, D/F, D, N+P (Neutral)

Boost Dive
Noble Force- It says something about her special moves into an OA. Maybe she can Critical Cancel them all.

Phew. That was long.

No man… There 4 vids there!!!
http://www.globetown.net/~may_upper/trf_down.htm
Lud vs Hazama
Beatrice vs Hikari
Sheril vs Mito
Lud vs Aran

And Lud vs Hazama is the best TRF2 match I ever seen… guard impact >>> Lud.

New vids up at ko-hatsu, with the following matches:

Zen vs. Bazoo
Kaya vs. Aran
Aran vs. Bazoo

Aran is beastly as expected (although the player wasn’t using his new low fireball at all), but the big surprise is Bazoo. He looks to be the dark horse of the game, mainly due to his falling rock special. In the videos, I swear a full 10 seconds sometimes passes between when Bazoo punches the ground and when the rock actually comes down. Insane for baiting tactics, and the fact that Baz has some good normals as well (jumping HP seems good for dodge - jumping overheads) will make him a force to be reckoned with.

Another observation though - no one so far has used the “Dark Force” powers for the characters, except for Mito. Hopefully they will prove to be useful, and not just a gimmick in the engine.

Make A Rf1/2 Tutorial Video !!! Petition !!

i really don’t know how to play the game …
is slow ( duh )
and we must keep on using dash and high jump X_X

how to use super ???
i don’t understand the meter

I’ve written a TRF2 Mito FAQ that pretty comprehensively covers both the systems of TRF2 and Mito. It even includes a controversial preliminary Tier listing for TRF2 for those who enjoy clenching their teeth with righteous fury.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/game/926550.html

You note you think the hearts hit mid. Someone confirm this before I start sobbing uncontrollably.

STabo : don’t you even try posting that tier list …

i know mito and kaya(coconut butter LOLZ) is top , i saw how crazy mito is and kaya’s jot’s attack combo …

this game is like ggxx or even 3s , a so called Complete tierlist in these games are always untrue … except top-tiers and lowtiers

MVC2 is exception …

No offense, but your tier list is completely horrible. You have no basis for a lot of the characters, and overall it just shows how dumb you are. First, Aran doesn’t hold a whole tier above all of the other characters in the game.

He is definitely good and scrub friendly, but not that good. Next, your ‘Top’ section consists of Kaya and Mito… WTF?!? Mito is also a very good character, but Kaya?? What are you thinking.

She’s probably high-mid at best. Next, your middle section is too big; Viren is should be higher. Lastly, your Bottom section is disgusting… SHERYL, GARNET, Orville, Hikari??? This just shows that… you need some more time to think about this.

Sheryl and Garnet are awesome characters… Hell they were both High-tiered in the first. If you didn’t notice, Orville is a beast now; he got hella buffed up. He’s very solid.

I really can’t understand why you would put Hikari in the bottom, let alone that far apart from Kaya… Makes no sense. The two sisters are practically equal, with (IMO) Hikari being a little better.

For TRF2, the tiers aren’t solid at all, just which characters are above and below the median line… It actually seems like anyone can compete in this game, which makes me happy. Your tierlist is a horrible indicator of which characters are better and worse…

thedude.com, just read EChang’s Rumble Fish FAQ for all the basic gameplay nuances, and I should be done with my RF2 FAQ pretty promptly. Once I get my stupid Swap Disc, I’ll be able to play Rumble Fish on my PS2, so I might get to make some sort of video tutorial.

No, I’m right.

You’re stupid.

Oh Jesus, we turned a friendly tier listing into flaming already. My take on it is that it is a valiant initial attempt, but the list obviously needs work. I myself would argue that Hikari is just better than Kaya, but for some reason, I see more Kaya vids floating around than Hikari. I would have indeed put Aran at top though. I don’t like him myself, but He has great pressure…really great goddamn pressure actually. I would still put Viren as Mid or Low-mid because he just isn’t safe on or off hit for a few of his specials. That and he had a shitty OA/CA. Now let’s all play nice, try not to make enemies of each other, and just work out a definitive tier list.

edit: like a goon I went at it for spelling mistakes, I typed the message after having not slept for a few days and going through an exam at college

I second this, although I would like to hear about more strategy stuff / new moves from 2 than anything else.

As I’ve said before, I think Bazoo can be a force to be reckoned with in #2, simply because his falling rocks come out at such varied times…not to mention the fact that his Burst Drive (Dark Force) makes the rocks BIGGER. Craziness.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~( delighted ) i seem to understand the complexity of RF2 now after reading the faqs

edit :

i told ya’

tier list = endless argument and debate.
people who discuss and made about tierlist is like a scientist that believes in his own theory , but got punched by mr.reality .

and again , are you positive that garnet is low-tier ?? i’ve seen many people using her …

I hardly ever see Garnet played, and when she is, its usually an easy match because the opponent keeps fucking up the input (qcb, hcf) for her super.

Kaya’s main strength seems to be her crossup jumpin. Her CA also seems intensely powerful (moreso than anyone else) and it seems to build quickly. I don’t know the story on Hikari because I hardly ever see her selected.

I’m fairly confident in ranking Orville lowly. I used to have a lot trouble with Orville, but now that I have learned all of his moves, and what they do, there is hardly anyone that can consistently beat me with him. It seems he just has a really obvious and limited game, and if anyone uses him, they are going to have to work hard for their victories.

I don’t know about Bazoo. Bazoo seems to be good against some characters, but the fact that he is going to have a lot of trouble against Aran prevented me from ranking him higher.

My tier listing isn’t any kind of analysis of the character’s potential based on the sum of their abilities. Its just a loosely constructed list of who I see played, and winning more often.

Fistly, I’d like to apologize for being so rude. :shake: I agree that we probably shouldn’t debate over tiers, but if it comes to that, I have a lot of input that I’d like to share, and a lot of it is contrary to your conclusions. I’d rather that we just talk strats in the thread, but tier discussion is fine.

On a semi-related note, I just got my Swap Magic to get my PS2 copy of The RUmble Fish to work, but I’m having some problems. I own version 3.6, and all that happens when I do the procedure correctly is a blank (black) screen.

The only thing that I found suspicious is that in the formal instructions for the Slide tool, it says to “wait for the screen to say insert disc,” and that doesn’t seem to come up for me. I figured it was just that my Swap Magic was more recent so some stuff changed, but I’d be really dissapointed if I can’t get this to work. :xeye:

Anyone else have the same problems I’m having?? I posted something over at GameFAQs, but haven’t gotten any responses yet. Thanks to anyone who helps. :china:

Oh! Oh! I can help with this…kinda. I use 3.3 and a flip top mod on my older model PS2. Once it hits the load/special load screen I eject the swap magic disc, put in a game with a large TOC (the original DMC is perfect for this) and then wait for it to give the “Refresh TOC” message and go back to the main menu. At the bottom it will say “Insert your own program disc”. This is where I open the top up and put in RF. Now… I forget how to do it with a slide tool. But if 3.6 still has the same loading troubles, you will need to be able to switch up the swap magi disc with a larger game (like DMC). There is an excellent site for looking up this kind of thing called… Afterdawn I think. I am a little busy now, but if I can, I will link it for you.

Take a look through there, you will probably find something useful, or you can always join and start posting yourself.
